- Went to Drayton Manor High School, Hanwell, London, where he took roles in "The Crucible" and "A Midsummer-Nights Dream". Still attends school productions as audience. Graduated from Drama school July 2004.

- A relation of Cardinal Spellman (1889-1967). Once the Archbishop of New York, known for his influence in American religious and political life and connection to the Irish-American Kennedy family. Cardinal Spellman presided over several of their marriages, notably Ted Kennedy's and Robert F. Kennedy's. His relationship later frayed with the family patriarch Joseph P. Kennedy over political differences with his son, the then presidential nominee John F. Kennedy.

- Played the role of Vasques to critical acclaim in Cheek By Jowl's production of "'Tis Pity She's A Whore" at the Barbican Theatre, London (2012) and subsequent world tour alongside Lydia Wilson.
- Stars in the short film Two Strangers Who Meet Five Times (2017), in 2018 it reached over 60 film festivals across the world and won "Best Short" at 17 of them - including Dinard, Manhattan and Maryland. Spellman has known his co-star Sargon Yelda since he was 9 years old having attended the same primary school as children, they met again years later after they were cast in the same play at the National Theatre, London.
