Glasgow's tallest building, the Cineworld multiplex on Renfrew Street, has been closed after Storm Desmond blew away part of its roof. The street was closed for over an hour as fragments continued to fall, but the building has now been made safe and the street reopened.
Witnesses remarked that large pieces of metal landed in the street, narrowly missing cars and coming close to hitting a woman with two young children, but fortunately nobody was injured. Due to the rough weather there were fewer people out and about than on an average Saturday.
The cinema was closed for repairs in 2011 after a safety inspection found parts of its roof to be unsafe. Glasgow has been on amber alert today due to a combination of heavy rain ad winds gusting up to 50mph....
