The CW on Tuesday made decisions on its four remaining traditional pilots, picking up two, Kung Fu and The Republic of Sarah, to series, and rolling the other two, The Lost Boys and Maverick.
The decision added yet another chapter in the long journey to the screen for Rob Thomas’ The Lost Boys reboot. The Lost Boys pilot had already been in production when the pandemic shut down all filming in mid-March, so the CW brass had seen some footage before opting to roll it and proceed with Kung Fu instead..
On a press call Thursday, the CW president Mark Pedowitz said he has spoken with Thomas and the rest of the pilot’s creative team about the decision.

The CW has cast Rochelle Aytes in one of the lead roles in its “The Lost Boys” reboot pilot.
The Warner Bros. Television project is based on the 1987 cult classic vampire film from Warner Bros. Pictures, which starred Kiefer Sutherland, Corey Haim, Corey Feldman, Jason Patric, Dianne Wiest, and Jami Gertz.
Aytes will play “Jackie,” described as the single mother of Garrett and Levi. She has recently moved back to the seaside North Carolina town she left two decades ago with the goal of running her father’s bed and breakfast and maybe rekindling an old flame from her high school years.

The CW’s revamped (get it?) “Lost Boys” pilot has cast one of its lead roles.
Lincoln Younes has been cast in the series as Benjamin, the charismatic leader of the gang of vampires in a seemingly idyllic North Carolina seaside town. Younes’ role is most similar to the role of David in the 1987 film version of “The Lost Boys,” who was played by Kiefer Sutherland.
Younes most recently starred in the ABC drama series “Grand Hotel.” He is also known for starring in shows like “Home and Away,” “Tangle,” and “Hiding” in his native Australia. He is repped by Megan Silverman Management, United Management in Australia, and Hamilton Hodell in the U.K.
The CW gave “The Lost Boys” a pilot order back in January. The network had previously ordered a “Lost Boys” pilot last season before ultimately passing. The CW remained high on the project, however, and decided to redevelop it.

Like clockwork — the CW once again is done with its pilot orders by Feb.1, doing the bulk of its pickups during the last week of January. The network today gave pilot green light to The Lost Boys, a retooled version of the pilot the CW ordered last season, from Heather Mitchell and Rob Thomas, and Maverick, from young writer Merigan Mulhern (BH90210) and Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage’s Fake Empire, about a college-bound President’s Daughter who starts to question her loyalty to her father “in a present day America that finds itself under authoritarian rule.”
Top pilot director Marcos Siega, who helmed the pilots for the CW series The Vampire Diaries and Batwoman, has come on board to direct the new Lost Boys pilot. Exclusive: The CW in May opted not to pick up pilot The Lost Boys to series but authorized a retooling, including recastings. As part of that, producing studio Warner Bros. TV has released the entire cast of the pilot with the exception of Medalion Rahimi and Dakota Shapiro whose options have been extended. The duo will co-star in the new, reworked pilot, which will likely film by the end of the year.
Meanwhile, pilot Glamorous starring Ben J. Pierce, which was not picked up in early May with the rest of the CW new series but was left in serious contention for a series order, is now dead.
Launching a series adaptation of the iconic 1987 Warner Bros horror comedy movie The Lost Boys had been high in the priority list for the CW brass. The network first tapped Rob Thomas to conceive and write a Lost Boys series during the 2016-17 development season.

The CW just picked up three of its six pilots to series, Batwoman, Katy Keene and Nancy Drew. Here is the status of the three that were left off, Glamorous, The Lost Boys and Jane the Novela.
Glamorous remains in contention, with a pickup decision will come soon, possibly before the CW’s May 16 upfront presentation; The Lost Boys will be retooled and re-piloted off-cycle; while the Jane the Virgin offshoot Jane the Novela is not going forward.
Glamourous, which hails from Damon Wayans Jr. and his Two Shakes Entertainment, writer Jordon Nardino and CBS TV Studios, had been considered a leading contender alongside Batwoman, Katy Keene and Nancy Drew and was the only original concept in the bunch.
Written by Nardino, Glamorous centers on a gender-nonconforming recent high school graduate (Ben J. Pierce) who lands the gig of a lifetime interning at a cosmetics company whose products he panned on YouTube.

It’s good to see Jennifer Garner’s production company, Vandalia Films, ramping up its production slate. Having produced 2012’s Butter, Garner teamed with that film’s writer Jason Micallef for a strip club-set drama for Fox during the previous TV season. Now the company is developing All The Pretty Faces for Bravo, and has just sold Half Full to Fox.
Half Full is a single-camera, half hour comedy show focusing on a newly-wed couple who are forced to adjust their plans due to a surprise pregnancy. Instead of moving to New York, they have to stay at home in Agawam, Massachusetts, within five miles of the husband’s five bitter older siblings. The script is being written by actor-writer Matthew Nicklaw (LoveFinder), who will also co-executive produce the project. The show comes from Warner Bros Television with Vandalia Films, and features Jennifer Garner as executive producer, with Juliana Janes as producer.

Yesterday morning the press screening of Butter was cancelled and moved to today and after some mixed reactions it would seem the reason was Harvey Weinstein wanted to buck the news cycle and make sure word surrounding the film had nothing to do with reviews.
The film follows a young orphan who, after being adopted by a Midwestern family, discovers she has an uncanny talent for butter-carving. Scripted by Jason Micallef, the films was apparently developed as a metaphor for 2008's Hilary versus Obama Iowa caucus showdown and now Weinstein is using the current political climate to create buzz for the film that still doesn't have an official release date.
Last night the film had its Toronto International Film Festival premiere and Harvey Weinstein released a statement, which was read by one of the film's co-stars, Olivia Wilde. Here's the statement: "Thank you everyone for coming out tonight. I want...

Jennifer Garner to play a young version of sleuth Miss Marple for Disney's upcoming Agatha Christie movie The elderly detective will get a fresh young new look in Jennifer Garner, portraying the Christie character used in a dozen of her books. #39. Butter Director: Jim Field SmithWriter(s): Jason MicallefProducers: Michael De Luca, Jennifer Garner, Juliana Janes and Alissa PhillipsDistributor: The Weinstein Co. The Gist: Set in a small Midwest town, this follows a young orphan who named Destiny, after being adopted by a Midwestern family, discovers she has an uncanny talent for butter-carving. She eventually finds herself up against the ambitious wife (Garner) of the retired reigning champion in a town's annual butter-sculpting contest...(more) Cast: Rob Corddry, Jennifer Garner, Ashley Greene, Kate Hudson, Hugh Jackman, Alicia Silverstone, Olivia Wilde and Yara Shahidi. List Worthy Reasons...: We're big on this top BlackList screenplay (# 3 in 2008) and think this might turn out to be a Best in Show type of movie-going experience as it is heavy on the obsessive compulsive competitive folks we sometimes find in middle America. Strong ensemble cast could make these nutty characters a joy to watch, and...

#52. Butter - Jim Field Smith The Weinsteins have a good rapport with the festival, and along with the hope of giving the Tiff preemed Submarine an extra showing in the Spotlight section, they might try to grab a Premieres space for Jim Field Smith's Butter. The film is officially ready (see Smith's pic) and footage was shown at the Afm - so they have the option of waiting until the fall, or gain entry into the theatrical market with a The Kids Are All Right mindset - build buzz early and position the family comedy early summer. Scripted by Jason Micallef (it's a really good screenplay - think Best in Show), set in a small Midwest town, this follows a young orphan who named Destiny, after being adopted by a Midwestern family, discovers she has an uncanny talent for butter-carving. She eventually finds herself up against the ambitious wife...

Jennifer Garner has sealed a new deal with the network that made her a star. The "Alias" star has signed a first-look production deal with ABC Studios for her Vandalia Films company.
Garner runs Vandalia, which is looking to get into the television industry, with Juliana Janes. The new pact will allow them to develop projects for the alphabet network.
However, for fans hoping to see the 37-year-old actress don wigs and get into action again just as she did on "Alias," they would be disappointed. She apparently won't be starring in any of the projects, though she could make guest appearances if she wants to.
Garner became a household name in the now-defunct action series as CIA agent Sydney Bristow. The show ran from 2001 to 2006.

One of the top scripts on last year's Black List (the best unproduced screenplays) was one called Butter written by newcomer Jason Micallef, a political satire set in the small-town world of competitive butter-sculpting. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Butter has found one of its stars, none other than Jennifer Garner. De Luca Productions exec Alissa Phillips brought De Luca the script, and Garner and Juliana Janes of Vandalia Films are in negotiations to serve in some producing capacity. Craig Gillespie (Lars and the Real Girl) and Gary Ross (Pleasantville) are among the directors circling the project. Described as Election meets Best in Show, Butter follows a young orphan who, after being adopted by a Midwestern family, discovers she has an uncanny talent for butter-carving. She eventually finds herself up against the ambitious wife (Jennifer Garner) of the retired reigning champion in a town's annual butter-sculpting contest. It sounds pretty interesting,...
