Los Angeles, Nov 5 (Ians) The Glastonbury festival is set to feature two female headliners for the first time in its history next year as legendary US pop star Madonna takes to the stage alongside Dua Lipa and Coldplay.
These three huge acts will headline the world-famous Pyramid Stage, with Madonna bringing the main stage to a close on Sunday night, reports Mirror.co.uk. Dua Lipa is expected to headline on Friday while Coldplay will perform on Saturday.
“It’s the dream line-up, a brilliant mix of different music and different atmospheres. Then, of course, you have Madonna on the final night, which will be epic,” an insider told the Mail. Madonna has never performed at Glastonbury while it will be Dua Lipa’s first headline performance at the iconic festival.
Meanwhile, Coldplay are very family with the festival, having headlined four times before in 2002, 2005, 2011 and 2016.

Tickets for next year’s Glastonbury festival will see a price hike to £340 when they go on sale this November.
The organisers of the five-day contemporary arts festivals have confirmed that attendees will be charged £335 plus a £5 booking fee for standard tickets, with £50 as a deposit and the balance due by the first week of April.
The last time Glastonbury tickets went on sale was in 2019.
At the time, one ticket cost £265 plus a £5 booking fee.
The price hike comes at a time when many businesses and individuals are struggling due to the cost-of-living crisis as energy costs soar and inflation remains high.
Glastonbury organisers also revealed that the 2023 festival tickets will go on sale on 3 November (coach + ticket packages) and 6 November (standard tickets).
Fans must register before purchasing, in a bid by organisers to stop ticket touts.

There will always be the peace, the love and the music, but the legacy of any large music festival will also always include a heap of trash. For 50 years, oceans of waste have washed over fields from Bethel, New York to Indio, California to Somerset, England. And though this garbage isn’t the worst driver of climate change, it’s only in the past few decades that festival organizers have committed to keeping things cleaner.

Adele has joked she can't twerk very well because her bottom is "so big".
The 27-year-old singer has been delighting fans with her onstage antics since bringing her World tour to London, England. At one of the concerts this week (March 21), Adele decided to try her luck at twerking - a popular dance move which involves sticking out the bottom and thrusting the hips in a sexually provocative manner.
The Hello star perhaps wasn't wearing the most appropriate ensemble to try the move, a gorgeous full-length black sequinned gown, when she attempted it.
The hilarity of the situation certainly wasn't lost on Adele, who joked with the crowd that her curves made it more difficult for her to successfully twerk.
“I think I just twerked!” she told the crowds.. “I can’t do it that well. My whole body has to move. My bum could break my back it’s so enormous.

The build-up to Glastonbury 2014 was dominated first by rumour and counter-rumour about the identity of the headliners, then the novelty of having a metal act in Metallica headline for the first time.
William Hill have reported massive amounts of money being placed on the identity of next years’ headliners already, which leads us to ask the question: what has Michael Eavis got up his sleeve for us in 2015? Well, we at What Culture love a good rumour game almost as much as we love Glastonbury, so we’ve compiled a list examining the likelihood of the most mentioned candidates that we’ll be raising our hands aloft to next June.
Obviously much can change in a year and though Eavis has dropped the odd hint and went as far to say at the time of writing that he has already booked next years’ headliners,...

London, May 9: Metallica will headline the Glastonbury at Pyramid Stage on Saturday night, it has been announced.
Glastonbury Festival founder Michael Eavis told BBC 6 Music's Matt Everitt that the Us band wanted to play for a long time and they were one of the most incredible rock bands in the world, adding that this was the time they would be playing in Glastonbury, the BBC reported.
Metallica's Lars Ulrich told Radio 1's Zane Lowe that he was ecstatic and they had waited for the phone call to perform at Glastonbury for years.
The drummer said the band wouldn't choose their set-list until the last minute but they'd keep in mind that the Glastonbury audience may not be hardcore fans and that it will be their.

Mike Batt reveals big plans for the furry orange eco-creatures from Wimbledon Common, including a movie, new series and 'interactive experience'
Missing believed lost on Wimbledon common, the Wombles could be set for a big-screen return under the auspices of co-creator Mike Batt. The gentle, point-nosed eco-activists were a mainstay of British television in the 1970s, going on to enjoy film and chart success. And now, it seems, they could be back.
The British songwriter Batt recently gained a controlling interest in Wombling Copyright Holdings, the company that owns the creatures and is now angling for a major relaunch. Batt previously enjoyed a 50-50 share of the company with the estate of the author Elizabeth Beresford, who wrote the original Wombles story back in 1968.
"We have plans for two new 26-part TV series, a feature-length movie and an interactive Womble World experience," announced Batt.

As I got on the tube this morning at Ealing Broadway station, I glanced across the road at the building on the corner, and paid a quick, quiet homage. Because this unprepossessing building was where Mick Jagger and his bandmates - yet to adopt the Stones moniker - first took to the stage in 1962, and strummed the first notes of their blues-inspired sound.
(Michele Hanson in the Guardian can do better than that - she remembers the gig, as she writes here)
Nothing so strange about that. Except the same snake-hipped frontman who swivelled and pranced around on that Ealing stage is still happily prancing, preening and peacock-posturing a half-century later, and seems to be getting better with age, according to Glastonbury's Michael Eavis, who hosted the band for the first time this year, and promptly announced them the best headliners ever - review of that gig here.

Prince Harry and Cressida Bonas were clearly in a music mood over the weekend. The redheaded royal joined his girfriend at the Glastonbury festival to take in a performance by the Rolling Stones on Saturday. "Prince Harry was great actually," festival organizer Michael Eavis told The Telegraph. "I recommended that he should go on into the night, because the nightlife is what Glastonbury is all about." And Harry apparently heeded the suggestion. "I told him to get his taxi driver to come back at five o'clock in the morning and do you know what? He lasted until four in the morning," Eavis added. Harry and Cressida have been an item for about a...

Prince Harry and girlfriend Cressida Bonas have taken their relationship to a new stage - at the Glastonbury rock festival. Harry, 28, and Bonas, 24, were seen at Saturday's main event, in the very first Glastonbury performance - and a spectacular one, at that - by the Rolling Stones. And while Harry skillfully managed to avoid photographers, a Boho-style Cressida was captured wearing dungarees and bright white Nikes - and delving into a plate of French fries. Dating for about a year, the pair have survived his more than four- month tour of Afghanistan and even his antics in Las Vegas. The couple have partied in London,...

Mumford and Sons brought Glastonbury Festival to a resounding close last night, and it was a particularly sweet set, as bass player Ted Dwane joined them on stage, following his recent brain surgery.
“We've celebrated the fact that Ted is alive here together. Shall we sing together?” asked frontman Marcus Mumford of the crowd at the Pyramid Stage, before launching into 'Awake My Soul'.
Ted Dwane back on stage with Mumford and Sons
While their performance drew only an average review from the Guardian, with slightly more praise from the NME, there was no doubting the enthusiastic crowd's response as the Grammy-heavy folk band brought out their big guns, 'I Will Wait' and 'Little Lion Man'.
Marcus Mumford led the crowd in a stirring rendition of 'I Will Wait'
And they finished with 'A Little Help From My Friends', joined on stage by Vampire Weekend and the Vaccines.

London — Mumford & Sons are bringing the Glastonbury Festival to a close Sunday, with many music fans still on a high from the Rolling Stones' first-ever gig at Britain's leading music extravaganza.
The Mumfords' performance will be the Grammy-winning folk-rockers' first since bassist Ted Dwane had surgery for a blood clot on his brain earlier this month.
The banjo-wielding balladeers are sure to get a raucous reception. But Saturday belonged to the Rolling Stones, with festival founder Michael Eavis declaring the band's show "the high spot of 43 years of Glastonbury."
"It's the whole razzmatazz of the occasion – the two of us finally getting together at long last," said Eavis.
The Stones, joined by ex-member Mick Taylor on guitar, played for more than two hours on the festival's main Pyramid Stage, giving fans a clutch of hits, from opener "Jumpin' Jack Flash" through to encores of "You Can't Always Get What You...

Pilton, England — This could be the last time, as Mick Jagger once sang. For the Rolling Stones, it's definitely a first.
The veteran rock rabble-rousers play Britain's Glastonbury Festival on Saturday, their debut appearance at the country's most prestigious rock music event.
Many of the 135,000 festival ticket-holders are expected to cram the space in front of the Pyramid Stage for the gig.
Jagger wouldn't reveal details of the set list in a pre-show BBC radio interview, saying "it's nice to have a bit of a surprise."
Jagger, who turns 70 in July, also gave no clue about whether the band he started with Keith Richards in 1962 will ever call it quits. He said, "I've no idea," before telling an interviewer that he'd probably continue as long as he was wanted.

Glastonbury Festival's founder and organiser Michael Eavis has revealed that he will never move the broadcasting rights for the event away from the BBC.
The largest British music festival has been covered by the BBC since 1997, when it took over the event from Channel 4.
Eavis said that he would never consider moving back to Channel 4 or sell the rights to a rival broadcaster such as Sky.
"All through the years, we'd have people phone us from Sky and Channel 4 - 'Can we do it, we'll do it better, we'll pay you more money'," he told the Radio Times.
"And I said, 'Well, we're not interested in the money. We want to support a national institution that benefits the whole wide world for free. Ok? That's it. Period'.
"We love the BBC, but then, we've been good to them as well."

London -- Rolling Stones fans know you can't always get what you want. But they may get what they need, with agreement reportedly near between the band and the BBC over televising part of the Stones' Glastonbury Festival show.
Festival organizer Michael Eavis says the BBC will air about an hour of the Stones' set as part of its extensive TV coverage of the event.
The BBC and the band both said negotiations were continuing, with the BBC on Friday calling the talks "extremely constructive."
The Stones are scheduled to headline Glastonbury's biggest stage on June 29, the festival's most prestigious slot.
Some 135,000 music fans are due at the June 26-30 festival in southwest England. The lineup includes Arctic Monkeys, Elvis Costello, Kenny Rogers and Mumford & Sons.

Glastonbury Festival will have its most extensive TV and online coverage ever on the BBC this year.
More than 120 live performances will be broadcast and six stages - Pyramid, Other, John Peel, Jazz World, Park and BBC Introducing - will have live streaming. In total there will be 250 hours of live coverage and streaming.
Radio 2's Chris Evans will make his Glastonbury debut and help lead the coverage alongside festival veteran Steve Lamacq, Radio 1's Nick Grimshaw, Gemma Cairney, 6 Music presenter Lauren Laverne, Dermot O'Leary, Mark Radcliffe, Jo Whiley and Craig Charles.
Glastonbury boss Michael Eavis said: "The BBC have stuck with us through thick and thin since 1997 and they've earned their stripes the hard way. It's been quite a journey since 97 and to have a complete record of what we've been up to over the years is music history gold dust."

There is no festival this year. But luckily, the director has made a film about the 'frightening, liberating' world of the festival's Shangri-La area
There is a moment near the start of Julien Temple's new film about Glastonbury that shows the mass exodus of late-night revellers from the main stages towards a far corner of the festival. They wind their way along the muddy tracks like Christmas Island red crabs, like a column of army ants, floodlights falling on their waterproof hoods and their wild, bright faces: lit up, somehow, by the promise of the night before them. They are going to Shangri-La, the centre of out-of-hours hedonism that in 2009 evolved out of Lost Vagueness as the place to go when the music stops. Full of strange structures, souqs, sculptures, performance art and secret corners, its Blade Runner-style urban film set takes 1,500 crew and artists to construct. While Glastonbury lies fallow this year,...

“It’s unkind to say,” Elbow frontman Guy Garvey told the BBC recently, “but all gigs are a rehearsal for this one.” They don’t make ‘em bigger than Glastonbury, Europe’s biggest music festival, and Garvey (who claimed not to have thought about anything else for three months) is a testament to the high esteem the five-day festival in southwest England is still held by both performers and punters alike. It’s been forty-one years since a dairy farmer invited Marc Bolan to play in his Somerset field for a bunch of hippies, and yet the annual ‘festival of contemporary performing arts’ remains as vibrant and relevant as ever.
Of course, there’s always annual chatter of concern that the festival, which has become an unlikely national institution, is suffering from a slow decline in quality in. Aging hippies and travellers continue to mourn earlier, less commercialised incarnations of the event,...

This weekend in Pilton, England, the Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts thrilled more than 170,000 festivalgoers with sets from Coldplay, U2, Beyonce, Radiohead, Queens of the Stone Age, Morissey, Wu-Tang Clan, Paul Simon, Fleet Foxes, Bright Eyes, Lykke Li, Kesha, Cee-Lo Green, Big Boi, Crystal Castles and hundreds of other big-name musicians.
Founded by Michael Eavis, a now 75-year-old dairy farmer who had the idea after seeing Led Zeppelin perform at a music festival, Glastonbury has become one of the biggest festivals in the world and routinely lands some of the biggest stars in music as headliners.

Leading UK Politician, Prime Minister's Friend Found Dead In Portapotty At Massive UK Music Festival
London — A close friend of the British prime minister was found dead in a portable toilet at one of the country's leading music festivals Sunday, authorities said.
Christopher Shale died in unexplained circumstances in the VIP area of the Glastonbury Festival, an entertainment extravaganza that's one of the fixtures of Britain's music calendar.
Shale, who was in his 50s, chaired the Conservative Association in David Cameron's West Oxfordshire constituency, and in a statement Cameron said he and his wife Samantha were devastated by the news.
"He was a great friend and has been a huge support over the last decade," Cameron said. "A big rock in my life has suddenly been rolled away ... like so many others Sam and I have lost a close and valued friend."
Shale was staying in a restricted, celebrity-packed area of the festival, which is held on a farm in southwestern England and has drawn some 170,000 people.

Here in the U.S. we’ve seen a dramatic rise in the number of music festivals being offered ever year, and the size and scope of some of them are nothing short of impressive … unless you know about the Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts, known to most simply as Glastonbury. You’ve seen the name and you’ve probably heard by now that Radiohead just announced a “surprise” appearance for tonight’s kickoff, but you may not be familiar with its history and sheer awesomeness.
