Today DreamWorks Animation issued a press release announcing their theatrical plans through 2014 featuring six original films three sequels based on Kung Fu Panda, Madagascar and How to Train Your Dragon franchises. Or, at least, that's how they put it. You could also include the Shrek franchise in there as well as Puss in Boots hits theaters on November 4 along with Kung Fu Panda 2 on May 26 as the studio's other 2011 release.
I will get to the details on the list of films in a second, but I thought I would first reference Rumblewick, which was announced as going in production last week via a press release that also included the above piece of art. The film is being directed by Tim Johnson (Over The Hedge, Antz) with a screenplay by Jim Herzfeld (Meet the Fockers, Meet the Parents), which is inspired by the children's book, "My Unwilling...

Disney and Pixar have always been the undisputed champions of animation but a new contender has been rising in the ranks over the last several years: DreamWorks. The studio that brought us the Shrek films, Antz, Chicken Run, Madagascar, Bee Movie and many others has been fighting the good fight for the better part of a decade and while they have yet to over take Disney and Pixar, their upcoming slate sounds like they're once again swinging for the fences. On Tuesday, DreamWorks Animation announced their upcoming slate all the way from this summer's Kung Fu Panda 2 through 2014 when they'll release How To Train Your Dragon 2 on June 20. In between, they're preparing original films featuring the likes of Chris Pine, Alec Baldwin, Hugh Jackman, Isla Fisher, Jude Law, Nicolas Cage, Ryan Reynolds, Emma Stone and many others. After earning many new fans with How to Train Your Dragon last year, Dreamworks seems to have gotten a fresh start in their animated department. Will Ferrell, Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill have joined the cast of DreamWorks Animation's Oobermind, report the trades. Ferrell replace Robert Downey Jr. in the comedy that will also feature the voice of Tina Fey. Ferrell plays the title role of a supervillain who imagines all his dastardly dreams coming true after defeating good-guy rival Metro Man (Pitt), only to find life quite boring without an adversary. To fill the void, Oobermind creates a new superhero, Titan (Hill), who also wants to be bad, forcing Oobermind to switch sides. Fey will play the reporter tasked with keeping track of the city's confusing superhero situation. Oobermind, produced by Lara Breay and Denise Nolan Cascino, is being directed by Tom McGrath, co-helmer of the Madagascar films. The project would have marked the first major animation role for Downey, who exited due to scheduling conflicts. Oobermind marks a return to Dwa for both Pitt and Hill.
