The zombie genre has been done and redone and just seems to be producing the same stuff again and again. This movie is no different. Devil’s Playground is directed by Mark McQueen and stars Craig Fairbrass as Cole, our heroic protagonist. Cole is that tough Jason Statham like dude that all the zombies are scared of. A chemical company creates a zombie clan with a new drug. You can actually tell who the zombies are in this movie because of the large and apparent dark veins coming out of the zombie’s bodies. Chaos ensues in an England town as the zombies run rampant, big and eating the flesh of the commoners.

Devil’s Playground is a rollicking ride of a zombie movie. Filled with fast-paced, sharp action, it is a 90-minute homage to 28 Days Later, Night of the Living Dead, and Dawn of the Dead.
A pharmaceutical company has developed a drug meant to be a performance enhancer that you shoot into your veins instead of pour down your gullet. Everything goes smoothly for two months, but then the folks from the trial start vomiting and having multiple organ failure; somehow, the drug has given them a virus. This causes the company head to flip out and round up all the patients. They find all except one, Angela Mills, who apparently is exhibiting none of the symptoms. They send their mercenary, Cole, to find her but, alas, she has vacated her apartment and left no forwarding address.

On October 2nd the third annual GoreZone International Film Festival got under way at Leicester Square’s Prince Charles Cinema; and for the first time ever, Dread was on the scene to check it out. Our report follows along with condensed reviews of six of the films shown over the weekend.
Blood Night: The Legend of Mary Hatchet, Breath of Hate, Hyenas, Cyrus: Mind of a Serial Killer, New Terminal Hotel, Darfur, and Devil's Playground are all included, but first a recap of the event and awards show.
In the face of fellow Leicester Square-based festival and horror heavy hitter, Film4 Frightfest, GoreZone (or Gz, as the magazine has rebranded) would appear to be the underdog. Having experienced the festival first-hand, however, it’s pleasing to discover a level of intimacy and audience connection that is easily lost amongst the hustle and bustle of many larger profile fests, bolstered by...

New trailer for the UK zombie movie!
Devil's Playground, the new British zombie movie from director Mark McQueen, may be a little 28 Days Later-ish, but it does offer a new twist: someone's blood may hold the key to a cure.
Ok, so maybe it's a little 28 Weeks Later-ish. Whatever. Either way, it looks pretty sweet and has a new, director's cut trailer to view before it hits DVD on October 11 (in the UK only).
You can see the other, non-director's cut at the movie's official site.

Kate Moss, Sarah Jessica Parker and Anna Wintour among friends at memorial service for Alexander McQueen
"There was no containing his contradictions," said Anna Wintour in her address at today's memorial service for Alexander McQueen. This turned out to be true even in death.
As London fashion week paused to remember the designer, who took his own life in February, McQueen's family were joined by his friends Sarah Jessica Parker, Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell at a service of memorial and thanksgiving at St Paul's Cathedral.
It was a morning of conflicting emotions, the shock and sadness surrounding McQueen's early death, tempered by a desire to celebrate his gifts and remember his triumphs. During the service, the London Community Gospel Choir led the congregation in a joyous rendition of Amazing Grace. Shortly afterward Björk, accompanied by a pianist, stood to perform an extraordinary, haunting solo of Gloomy Sunday, the song...

Blimey, it's a new British zombie movie!
It's been a while since we heard anything about the British zombie movie Devil's Playground, but a new viral site and poster have arrived. The site is for an experimental chemical, which, if you watch the teaser trailer, is clearly the reason for the zombie virus that spreads through the country. We always thought Devil's Playground had a 28 Days Later-vibe, but seeing how both movies are British, it seems appropriate to do a little borrowing.
Mark McQueen directed the movie, which releases onto DVD in the UK on October 11. No word yet on a U.S. release. The movie stars Craig Fairbrass (Dead Cert), Myanna Burning (The Descent), Janet Montgomery (Wrong Turn 3: Left for Dead), Shane Taylor (Band of Brothers), Jaime Murray (Dexter), and Craig Conway (Doomsday). A new poster for the movie is below.

The teaser art for the next zombie themed epic coming out of the UK, Black and Blue Films' Devil's Playground, has come our way; and it's void of floating heads, pensive looking teens, and all the rest of the cliché horseshit we're spoon-fed here in the States.
Devil's Playground stars Craig Fairbrass as Cole, a hardened killer searching for a cure to the illness causing a zombie apocalypse across the globe that is also slowly turning him into one. Danny Dyer, Colin Salmon, Sean Pertwee, Lisa McAllister, Alistair Petrie, Jaime Murray, Shane Taylor, Craig Conway, MyAnna Buring, and Del Henney, whom you may remember as one of the villains in Straw Dogs, all co-star. A new version of the trailer has appeared online for Mark McQueen’s "infected" Zombie apocalypse movie Devils Playground. Thankfully it’s a far slicker affair, than the earlier “unofficial” promo that appeared a couple of months back. A new version of the trailer has appeared online for Mark McQueen’s "infected" Zombie apocalypse movie Devils Playground. Thankfully it’s a far slicker affair, than the earlier “unofficial” promo that appeared a couple of months back. Ever since Colin made a splash at last year's Cannes Film Festival, zombie movies are a legitimate part of the yearly festival, though none are "in competition."
Mark McQueen's upcoming infected zombie film Devil's Playground enjoyed two Market screenings at the Cannes Film Festival this year. Fellow British zombie entry Zombie Women of Satan was also there, searching for international distribution. The zombie comedy will hit UK DVD in June. For evidence, see a brief French interview with the Zombie Women below, whose assets were well-documented by the cameraman.
The Guardian also spoke with a Zombie Women representative, which can be seen here. And, not to be outdone by The Guardian, British birdcage liner The Sun also interviewed actress Loula Cherry and writer/director/star Warren Speed.
The La Times reported that Zombies of Mass Destruction was also at the Cannes Marketplace, likely also trying to find distribution. The...

Being a huge Danny Dyer fan (seen City Rats? Highly recommended) I'm greatly looking forward to this, and oh yeah, there's zombies too. Thanks to producer Jonathan Sothcott, we know the film will be screening at the Cannes market and will be getting an October DVD release in the UK via E1. He also points out that Dyer is in "top form in quite a different role, as an ex-cop desperately trying to find his girlfriend amidst the zombie apocalypse." Further, he says that director Mark McQueen has made a zombie movie "with genuine style and lean, no a mean feat". Bring It On!
The not too distant future. Newgen Industries, a leading pharmaceutical company company, is trying to placate a media uproar. Its new "legal performance enhancer", Rak-295, has met with spectacular failure during testing, causing severe physical and allergic reactions in all 30,000 of its test subjects.... Allergic reactions in all but one user.

This reviewer is in a critiquing mood and that is not a good thing for E1 Entertainment's zombie rip-off, the Devil's Playground. Have a look at the trailer and see if you can find one original element that you have not seen in several other zombie styled films. Even the soundtrack is borrowed from the Resident Evil franchise and listen closely to the end. That is one of several tracks from the 28 Days Later film that revitalized the genre. Nine years later and still no one is doing the genre better than Danny Boyle from 2001. As well, there is a rumour that this is a leaked trailer for the Devil's Playground and, seeing as there is no way to verify if the trailer is legit, it is below. The film is not even listed on the E1 Entertainment website, but that is no surprise as this site updates once every six months.

When it comes to the recent output of zombie movies, it appears the the running "infected" zombie is greatly outpacing George Romero's classic, lumbering zombie. British production studio Black And White Films have two upcoming genre films with Dead Cert, a movie about the classic struggle between gangsters and vampires, and Expose, a remake of the 1976 film of the same name about a psycho personal assistant to a novelist, and now are jumping into the zombie genre with Devil's Playground.
