Hulu’s upcoming six-part limited docu-series “The 1619 Project” will launch Jan. 26, Disney’s Onyx Collective announced on Thursday. The series is an expansion of the project of the same name from journalist Nikole Hannah-Jones and The New York Times Magazine.
Hosted by Hannah-Jones, “The 1619 Project” seeks to reframe the country’s history by placing the consequences of slavery and the contributions of Black Americans at the very center of our national narrative. The episodes — “Democracy,” “Race,” “Music,” “Capitalism,” “Fear” and “Justice” — are adapted from essays of Hannah-Jones “The 1619 Project: A New Origin Story” and examine how the legacy of slavery shapes different aspects of contemporary American life.
“1619” is a Lionsgate Production in association with One Story Up Productions, Harpo Films and The New York Times. It was executive produced by Hannah-Jones, director Roger Ross Williams, editor Caitlin Roper, Kathleen Lingo, The New York Times’ editorial director for film and television and Oprah Winfrey.

Working in the movie business in any capacity is tough. Working within the horror genre (while fun) is even tougher. But one of the toughest gigs out there is being a "scream queen." Most actresses don't ask for the title, but they find themselves getting it after inadvertently appearing in several independent genre films. Others aim specifically to work only in scary movies. VH1 has even created an entire reality series based on a handful of girls' desire to earn the coveted title of "scream queen." The first in our five-part series of "indie scream queens" focuses on actress Erika Smith. Having starred in a bevy of independent horror titles such as Sinful , Crimson and iMurders , while also appearing in Bachelor Party 2 (as well as a bit part in...

With a budget bumping $240 million and technology that's over 10 years in the making, James Cameron's Avatar is primed to push Hollywood into a new dimension. The 3D tour de force is the first film of it's kind, comprised of roughly 60% computer-generated elements and 40% live-action, all seamlessly melded together into a brilliant depth of field when seen through the lenses of polarized, stereoscopic, librarian-looking glasses. Entertainment pundits expect the movie to be the biggest blockbuster since, well, Cameron's last biggest blockbuster (which happened to be the biggest blockbuster of all-time). Some say it may even save movie theaters from the internet. Avatar could herald the arrival of a revolutionized 3D film industry that studio execs have tried to make stick since the 50s. Unless, of course, the internet also gets three dimensional. While early tests on YouTube have been both interesting and headache-inducing, a new web series from Hank's Beak Productions and starmaker,...

Another new web series, this one entitled "13 Minutes to Midnight", is debuting this week, just in time for Halloween. To differentiate itself from the pack, "13 Minutes to Midnight" will also be available in 3D!
"13 Minutes to Midnight" will have its worldwide premiere with the first episode, “Halloween – Part 1” on October 28, 2009, hosted in association with Lionsgate and FEARnet on YouTube’s new 3D Channel. In an interesting twist, the program lends itself as a product placement endeavor for alternative programming from the broadcast networks due to their continued overall advertising ratings erosion caused by ever-growing Internet content and DVR penetration. Said products featured range from Monster Energy Drink to Netflix.
