Juliet Binoche in Let the Sunshine InClaire Denis's Let the Sunshine In charts the delightfully erratic dalliances and social sparring of a romantically wayward painter, Isabelle (Juliette Binoche), with the many men she encounters in her life (played by, among others, Xavier Beauvois, Alex Descas, and Gérard Depardieu). The film will receive its North American premiere at the New York Film Festival. After premiering in the Directors' Fortnight section of the 70th Cannes Film Festival, we had a chance to sit down and discuss the new film with its director. The "Christine" that Denis speaks of is Christine Angot, her co-screenwriter and a notable French novelist and playwright.Notebook: So Bright Sunshine In is your first comedy—it’s a sex comedy and it’s often a very funny film. But what struck me about it was how closely linked the humor and the sadness are. Could you talk about...

As if Christine couldn’t get any creepier. Does anyone remember the story of this psychotic Plymouth Fury? Christine was a mean, vengeful car that didn’t like anyone except her owner. And even he wasn’t immune to the madness she caused. Stephen King had a real horror on his hands when he unloaded Christine to an unsuspecting public. For just a short while people didn’t fully trust their cars any longer, but thankfully that faded fast. It actually went away quicker than people’s fear of sharks after Jaws came out. Anyway, the video is fairly low key until it gets to

I’ve said many times no one was more Milestone than Dwayne McDuffie. Denys Cowan’s larger than life idea created the company. Dwayne showed up with the details for that idea.
Milestone has made an impact on the comics world to be sure. Most would say comics have had an impact on the world and I would agree.
Just as no one was more Milestone than Dwayne, there was no one more ‘comics’ than Len Wein. That may be my opinion, but I defy anyone who knew Len to prove me wrong. Comics at their best induce moments where you’re living within the world you’re reading about. As an adult, if you’re lucky that feeling will last a few minutes if you achieve it at all.
As a child, those moments lasted hours maybe even longer depending on your level of interest and in my case your level of pain.

We're straddling the edge of sanity with "Don't Be Ridiculous," and the title taunts us.
As we see on The Leftovers Season 3 Episode 2, the last three years have brought the Garveys and nearly everyone else to their knees. If they were coping well before, what we see on the surface now could mean anything.
Years of processing the loss of 2% of the population affected everyone differently. Some people are harder, some softer, some hard on the outside with a soft coating, gooey on the inside with a hard shell; but most appear willing to believe just about anything.
Much of the hour focuses on Nora. She excels at her job because she can see through the lies of someone who didn't truly lose someone to a Sudden Departure.
Nobody, from what we've seen, has departed since that first October 14, but people continue using the event to cover up other offenses.

Another offering of vintage East German pictures gives us all the pieces of a cinematic puzzle: Heiner Carow’s 1968 memory- movie of traumatic experiences in WW2 displeased the Communist authorities and was shelved… only to be cannibalized as a back-story for a new 1970 release aimed as a dig at West German values. It’s a fascinating comparison — an ideologically-challenged art film becomes a piece of well-produced propaganda.

Its protagonist may be a beautiful college student exploring the addictive business of “transactional sex,” but there’s no heat between the sheets of The Girlfriend Experience. That’s by design. This expansion of the Steven Soderbergh film about a Manhattan call girl (played by real adult actress Sasha Grey) is as compelling as it is icy cool, a show that observes the fallacies and fantasies of human desire through the eyes of a woman so single-mindedly careerist that she chooses to commodify her own carnal appetites, reworking pleasure as business with shrewd detachment.
If that sounds alienating, that’s because the series’ ostensibly salacious premise – girl meets world, world pimps out girl, girl finds that this is to her liking – is one of its many acts of narrative subterfuge. There were many great films about strong women at this year’s Sundance – Kelly Reichardt’s Certain Women and Antonio Campos’ Christine to name two of the festival’s best features in their own right. Meera Menon’s Equity, a female-driven (written, directed, produced) corporate thriller set in the cut-throat workplace of Manhattan high finance, is a solid addition to this camp, although with nothing of the style or verve of either of those pictures.
The film sets itself up as a women-centric Wall Street, as Anna Gunn’s Naomi Bishop emulates Gordon Gekko’s speech to a crowd of female grad students in one of the film’s opening scenes that she works because “she likes money.” Coming from a poor background, money pays for her brother’s education, or jewelry for herself, but she is a banker also about winning the game – although who she’s playing is a matter of contention.

After flopping at the box office and landing an unnecessary entry on the shortlist for 2014’s Best Actress Razzies for Nicole Kidman, Before I Go to Sleep arrives on Blu-ray with a bruised reputation. Pulpy, even schlocky at certain moments, director Rowan Joffe’s sophomore directorial feature still manages to be entertaining, a throwback to the kind of methodical studio neo-noirs we used to see more before Hollywood was overrun by the mindless recalibrations of endless superheroes and Michael Bay. With a little luck, it will have a healthy shelf-life, perhaps destined for rediscovery as an underrated guilty pleasure in decades to come.

Sleep, My Love: Joffe’s Effective Woman in Peril Thriller
Adapting S.J. Watson’s pulpy novel Before I Go to Sleep for his second feature film (2010’s remake of British noir Brighton Rock, starring Helen Mirren, was his neglected debut), screenwriter cum director Rowan Joffe forges onward in material that seems veritably inveigled with the past. Many may be pleased with the surprisingly tense platitudes Joffe ascends to with this material, though that may be due to the fact that films of this ilk are generally made so shoddily that they fold before the third act. No, Joffe understands a thing or two about fun twists and engaging tension (take his screenplay for the 2007 zombie sequel 28 Weeks Later, for instance), and this sophomore effort feels a bit like those women-in-peril films that were a staple of 90s suburban nightmare cinema.
Christine (Nicole Kidman) awakes in the morning not knowing who or where she is.

Director Brian De Palma has made movies heavily influenced by Alfred Hitchcock before, but Passion (2012) is the first one whose characters look like they stepped out of one of Hitchcock’s classic films.
Karen Muller-Serreau’s bold and colourful costumes communicate the characters’ hidden desires and make watching Passion a sensory experience. This melodrama centres on two ad executives, Isabelle (Noomi Rapace) and her boss Christine (Rachel McAdams), who have a deadline to come up with an ad campaign for a new smartphone. In her sleep, Isabelle thinks of a great idea.
Dirk (Paul Anderson) in typical pinstriped suit with Isabelle (Noomi Rapace) in even more typical black.

It's time to see what the "Big Brother" Rewind actually means, because no matter how many times Julie Chen half-explains it, I don't have a clue. All I know is that there was a button, it was pushed and it's going to undo an impressive run of challenge excellence from the otherwise irksome Frankie. And that's going to be fun. Or is it? Honestly, your guess is as good as mine. Let's find out... 8:03 p.m. Et. Julie Chen has gone dark for the second straight week, as she promises that "the game is about to be rewound," which she warns us won't impact the target on challenge "beast" Frankie. 8:03 p.m. Cody is confident that Victoria is this week's real target, but anxious that Frankie might choose to take the opportunity to outset him. Victory is making rabbit faces into the camera, on the verge of tears.

Nicole Kidman wipes the slate clean post-Grace as an amnesiac in Rowan Joffe's nicely overcooked suspenser
The last time Nicole Kidman made headlines, she was starring in Grace of Monaco, a "worse than Diana" disaster that Kidman presumably wishes she could forget – as do most of the people who saw it. In this dourly lively amnesiac thriller from the director of 2010's unmemorable Brighton Rock remake, that wish comes true. Not only does Kidman play a character who cannot recall her own life from one day to the next, she plays it well enough to expunge the memory of Olivier Dahan's right royal catastrophe, and to remind us just how good she was at playing borderline bewildered in the career-high psycho-chiller The Others.

When we left "Big Brother" on Thursday night, the hamsters were slipping and sliding around the backyard trying to fill snowmen with cloudy fluid in order to win Head of Household. Nicole fall down! Nicole fall down again! And again! Christine wants to have the power and she thinks it'd be funny if she sent Nicole home twice. Derrick wants the $5000 Dollars/5000 Hollas, but he wants to keep his alliance safe. Alright, so yesterday, August 29th the reigning Big Brother 16 Hoh for week 10, Caleb, went ahead and nominated Nicole and Christine for eviction. This is definitely a more interesting nomination than I thought was going to go down since Victoria is still in the house. However, I didn't think it was totally outside of the realm of possibility. Apparently, they have no problem nominating their own alliance member, Christine, over Victoria. This could cause an interesting turn of events should Nicole win Pov today. And even if she doesn't, I think that Nicole could make a very good case for them to turn on Christine, since they already planned for Christine to be the first alliance member to get sent packing. I think Derrick is definitely looking to drag Victoria as far along as he can over Christine. And what Derrick wants, he usually gets. So, if Nicole gets herself off...

"Big Brother" Voice-Over Man says that tonight will be the last Battle of the Block of the summer. 8:04 p.m. There are only eight people left in the House and Frankie notes that six of them are in his alliance, which means alliance-mates are going up on the Block. Tonight's live eviction show, kicked off with footage that took place after the Pov ceremony when Hoh, Christine, put Nicole on the chopping block as a replacement nominee for Pov winner Zach. From there, they showed Nicole trying to make nice with Christine to figure out why she was put up . It turns out that Christine believed a few lies that the guys told her, claiming that Nicole would put her up or something along those lines. Next, Nicole tried to negotiate with Christine to stick around. Nicole also tried to convince Cody that she would never try to put them up and that Donny would. It was a valiant effort I suppose, but it didn't seem to hold much weight with enough of the guys to change her fate. After a break, they showed footage of Caleb, Frankie, and Christine taking a trip to the Dallas Cowboys training camp to pay them a visit.

New '3 Days To Kill' movie delivered great action, drama & more . Relativity Media released their new action/thriller flick, "3 Days To Kill" into theaters this weekend. I just checked it out, and thought it was pretty entertaining, serving up some major hardcore action scenes, along with pretty good drama and a touch of comedy. It stars: Kevin Costner, Amber Heard, Hailee Steinfeld, and Connie Nielsen. In the new flick, CIA agent, Ethan Renner (Kevin Costner) finds out he's dying from a serious illness after collapsing in the middle of a field assignment, and is given only 3-5 months to live. This prompts him to pay his wife, Christine , a visit after spending too much time away from her and his daughter. He apparently wants to make things right with them before he passes, and has vowed to Christine to give up CIA work for good. That promise doesn't last very long after character,...

You can’t keep a kung fu master down. Wong Fei Hung, probably most famous to Western audiences as the hero of Jet Li and Tsui Hark’s “Once Upon a Time in China” series of movies, will be returning to the big screen about 16 years after Jet and Tsui hung it up. The duo’s last Wong Fei Hung movie was 1997′s “Once Upon a Time in China and America”, which found Wong in the American West battling cowboys. Bill Kong, Liu Erdong and Ivy Ho are teaming up for the new version of the martial arts legend, with Chow Hin Yeung and Christine To directing and writing, respectively. The two previously teamed together on the crime dramas “Nightfall” and “Murderer”. This version of Wong Fei Hung is said to chronicle “the origins of the kung fu master and his emergence as a figure of righteousness and justice during...

The "Sister Wives" are feeling more like single moms now that they are split apart in four rental houses and everyone is dying to live closer together -- except Meri, kind of, because she's grown very accustomed to having privacy. It probably has a lot to do with the fact that she only has one child, so Meri is not surrounded by the craziness anymore, but the other sister wives still are.
It's also affecting the kids because their dad is only around every fourth day. It's hard for the Janelle with the teenage boys particularly, who need a firm dad figure around. In what is no surprise, Christine almost revels in Janelle's teenage boy drama. Because Christine is the worst.
Meanwhile, Janelle is kind of rocking the individuality with her working out and wanting to sell real estate. But that also means she's not really feeling the Sisterwife's Closet business.

With so many horror classics and cult favorites getting announced for Blu-ray release in 2013, one bit of news that has mostly flown under the radar is Twilight Time's plans to give John Carpenter’s 1983 adaptation of Stephen King’s Christine a Blu-ray upgrade a month from now.
For those of you that actually need a refresher as to what Christine is all about:
Geeky student Arnie Cunningham (Keith Gordon) falls for Christine, a rusty 1958 Plymouth Fury, and becomes obsessed with restoring the classic automobile to her former glory. But as the car changes, so does Arnie, and his newfound confidence turns to arrogance behind the wheel of his exotic beauty. Arnie's girlfriend Leigh (Alexandra Paul) and best friend Dennis (John Stockwell) reach out to him, only to be met by a Fury like no other.

Monday on Bones, Brennan is shot while working late at the Jeffersonian lab.
Fox has made this clear from the beginning, as evidenced by the episode title, promo, photos and now a sneak preview below, in which the incident takes place at the hands of an unknown assailant.
Luckily, Booth arrives at the Jeffersonian just moments later to find her critically injured. As he frantically tries to help however he can, he urges her to fight. Earlier, they had a fight of their own.
In a second clip from the episode, we see Brennan shoot down Booth's idea for them to take Christine to a cabin in the woods, which he criticizes for; she then leaves for the lab, at night. Alone.
The third sneak peek shows Brennan after she's been shot, and struggling with visions of her mother (Brooke Langton) that defy her usual logic - now matter how...

Booth and Brennan prepared to die on the latest episode of "Bones." Okay, so they're not planning to die any time soon, but they wanted to make sure they had everything in order should it happen. That meant talking about wills, and learning that they were on vastly different pages as far as that goes, though it come as no surprise.
Brennan's will is more than 300 pages long while Booth's is on a sticky note. They talked about their last wishes, which would have Booth and their daughter, Christine, heading off to spread Brennan's ashes on a volcano. Sure, it would be a sad moment, but it still paints a beautiful moment for the grieving father-and-daughter.
Booth decided to record a message for their daughter, in the event that he were to die. "I’m the luckiest man in the world, because I got to spend time with your mother and with you,...

Coming off of last week's riveting return of Pelant, I was expecting Bones to move a little more slowly. I was spot-on.
Like Bones Season 3, the Gormogon season, or the Gravedigger arc, not every week can focus on the season's Big Bad. But "The Twist in the Plot" was a strong episode, which provided an avenue for the Booth-Bones discussions so many of us love. Oh, and Daisy returned.
Bones and the team discovered two bodies in a grave, one of a cancer patient and the other that of her "death doula." As far as the procedural aspect of "The Twist in the Plot" goes, I called the whodunit about 30 minutes in. It was plain to me that the husband had killed the doula, though I didn't see the murder coming as a result of her breaking up with him due to her three month policy.

With both Skyfall and Twilight experiencing fairly hefty drop-offs for the second week running, 37 and 55% respectively, Rise of the Guardians sneaked past both with a solid second week to claim top spot with takings of around £1.6million at the UK Box Office this past weekend.
Dreamworks’ animated film will be benefitting not only from the lack of festive feel-good competition, but also the fact that school are starting to break up and more and more families will start going to see it as a result. When Christine Carter's husband decided he was done with his wife and kids, he absolutely meant it. The latest episode of "My Life Is a Lifetime Movie" told the story of how Nicholas Francisco disappeared abruptly. Christine thought he was dead.
It was a year-and-a-half of not knowing until a reporter found him in California. "I’d rather be dead to everyone," he said. "I don’t know how to emphasize that to you, I just want to be left alone."
It turns out Nicholas was a swinger and a sex addict who had cheated on Christine many times. Finally, he'd decided he was done with domestic life and he fled to California. He left Christine to pay off his college debt and raise their children alone.

Bones and Booth investigated the death of a divorce lawyer this week. What a coincidence.
In the hands of lesser writers or actors, the obvious parallels between the murder investigation central to "The Partners in the Divorce" and the couple's personal turmoil would've quickly grown tiresome.
Thanks to the perennially terrific Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz, though, it was anything but.
Bones certainly hasn't shied away from challenging its two stars since the end of Season 6, has it? Ever since Brennan got pregnant, it's been a turbulent ride for its two leads, and for the fans who adore them.
Their relationship has been in overdrive since, and while the changing circumstances and obstacles altered things more than some would like, B&B haven't lost the spark that make them arguably TV's most dynamic duo.

Booth and Brennan may have been thrilled to reconcile in the season premiere of Bones last week, but it's not all smooth sailing in tonight's new episode.
An Unhappy Reunion? It starts, innocently enough, with breakfast. Booth is surprised when Brennan is cooking, only to discover that she was forced to take a job as a fry cook while on the run in order to have money. She and her father obviously didn't make too many plans before she ran if she wasn't able to grab a chunk of her sizable bank account before skipping town. But for Booth, breakfast becomes an annoyance, because he's used to making breakfast in their house. It all snowballs from there throughout the episode. When Booth suggests that they take Christine to the carousel on the weekend, Brennan says she already did that during her mouths on the lam and that their daughter isn't fond of the carousel,...

It’s not often that you find cinematic art in a prison shower scene. Well, let’s rephrase. Non-exploitative prison shower scenes are rarely things of beauty. (Much better.) This film’s opening is an exception though as a single man fends off multiple attackers in an absolutely brutal and bloody brawl. The violent action is captured through painful-looking fight choreography and camerawork that utilizes slow motion to great effect. Bones are broken, blood is spilled and the scene ends leaving viewers as drained as the only man left standing. That man, Eugene Wang (Nick Cheung), is released from prison after a twenty year sentence for the rape and murder of a young woman, and his first stop is to grab some ice cream and eyeball some cute women at a busy intersection. He spots a teenager named Zoe (Janice Man) at a music university who looks almost identical to the woman he was convicted of killing...

Another labyrinth, over the top tale of homicidal intrigue, the Hong Kong film sees the duo maintaining their reputation for hysterical twists and revelations, and features an impressive cast headlined by acclaimed actor and one of the current kings of gritty thrillers, Nick Cheung (recently in Dante Lam’s superb “The Beast Stalker” and “The Stool Pigeon”), with support from veteran Simon Yam (“Election”), Janice Man (“Lover’s Discourse”) and the inimitable Michael Wong (“Overheard”). Cheung plays Wong Yuen Yeung, a man released from jail after a 20 year stretch for the rape and murder of a teenage girl called Yi Wan who he was accused of stalking.
