Dune: Part Two opened on March 1, 2024 and played for a guaranteed two to three weeks run on premium Imax giant screens.
But that wasn’t enough, and Denis Villeneuve’s epic for Warner Bros. that starred Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya got an extended run in Imax theaters in April, and not just because fans wanted to see the sequel a second time.
Imax CFO Natasha Fernandes put the extended premium screen run down to the benefits of appointment viewing — i.e. waiting to see Dune: Part Two in Imax theaters vs. standard movie exhibitors.
In the wake of Oppenheimer, Imax released a limited number of 70-millimeter prints of Dune: Part Two, a box office strategy that earned theater sellouts for weeks on end. And Fernandes reported at an investors conference on Tuesday that fans who couldn’t get a ticket for the opening week waited to get a seat in the following weeks,...

Panaji, Aug 10 (Ians) To get rid of fish laced with formalin, a carcinogenic cadaver preservative, Goa Bjp Mla Rodolfo Fernandes on Thursday suggested inventing a testing strip to check fish quality for public usage and make it available in the pharmacies.
“We should leave it (testing) on the people. Like a litmus paper strip, a testing strip should be invented and made available in the pharmacies to check formalin in fish. If people have doubt, let them check.
“Even if it is checked at a check-post, agents may lace fish with formalin (after entering the state). It is a serious issue concerning public health. People’s safety is important,” Fernandes said in the Assembly.
Replying to him, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said that the government will consider the suggestion.

The tale of ‘Mahabharata’ is an all time classic, and one of the greatest epics of all time that needs little detailing. The biggest epic of all time, ‘Mahabharata’ is now set for a new stage adaptation at the UK premiere at London’s Barbican Theatre this fall.
The legendary Hindu epic that packs with it some of the greatest thought changing and detailed philosophies, a powerful story of a great war and spiritual ideas, is presented by the Canadian theatre production ‘Why Not Theatre’ and had its world premiere in Canada back in March at The Shaw Festival Theatre in Niagara-on-the-Lake.
According to Variety, the production is presented in two parts and narrated by a storyteller (Miriam Fernandes). ‘Karma’ (part 1), is the origin story of the rival Pandava and Kaurava clans. In ‘Dharma’ (part 2), a great battle destroys the planet and the survivors are left behind to rebuild.

Pathum Thani (Thailand), June 20 (Ians) India went down 0-1 against Uzbekistan in their second Group D match of the AFC U-17 Asian Cup at the Thammasat Stadium, in Pathum Thani, Thailand, here on Tuesday.
Substitute Mukhammedali Reimov netted the only goal of the match to seal victory for Uzbekistan.
Coming into the match after a draw against Vietnam, India head coach Bibiano Fernandes made one change to his starting XI, putting striker Thanglalsoun Gangte into the mix, in place of Akash Tirkey.
It was a much different affair from India’s first match against Vietnam. The Uzbekistan side looked a confident bunch after having held defending champions Japan 1-1 in their last game. They controlled large swathes of the field through the first half against India, whose efforts to orchestrate counter-attacks were thwarted on most occasions.

New Delhi, May 31 (Ians) It was just less than a year ago when dark clouds of doubt hovered over the India U-17 Men’s National Team that was, at that time, participating in the Saff U-17 Championship in Sri Lanka.
A 1-3 loss in the last match of Group B against Nepal left Indian fans rather disappointed.
Fast forward another month, and not only had the Blue Colts won the Saff U-17 Championship, beating the same Nepal side 4-0, but they had also sealed their berth on the continental stage, defeating the likes of the Maldives, Kuwait, Myanmar, and giving hosts, the mighty Saudi Arabia, a tough fight in the last match (a 1-2 defeat) in the qualifiers for the AFC U-17 Asian Cup.

New Delhi, Jan 22 (Ians) After hosting a plethora of Hero Isl and Hero I-League matches over the last few years, the Tilak Maidan is now all set to host the India U-17 Men’s National Team who will face Uzbekistan U-17s in two Friendlies on Sunday and on Tuesday.
Coached by Bibiano Fernandes, the Blue Colts earned their ticket to the AFC U-17 Asian Cup as Group D runners-up in the qualification round held in Saudi Arabia in October 2022. The team restarted the national camp in November in Goa and travelled for an exposure tour to the United Arab Emirates earlier this month, where they played a friendly game against the hosts’ U-20 side, narrowly losing 0-1.
“The UAE tour was short but extremely productive. It was a good test against the UAE U-20s to check our levels against tough opponents. And despite the result, I am extremely happy with the boys’ performance.

London, Jan 16 (Ians) Arsenal strengthened their grip on the Premier League with a 2-0 win away to North London rivals Tottenham.
Arsenal’s win, coupled with the result of the Manchester derby, puts Mikel Arteta’s side eight points clear of Manchester City and nine ahead of Newcastle and Manchester United, reports Xinhua news agency.
The game was only 13 minutes on when Hugo Lloris put Arsenal ahead with the first own goal of his career after he palmed Bukayo Saka’s deflected effort from a narrow-angle into his own net.
Martin Odegaard doubled Arsenal’s lead in the 36th minute, placing a perfect left foot shot wide of Lloris after another surging run from Saka.
Tottenham tried to get back on level terms after the break, but with Aaron Ramsdale in excellent form, Arsenal were generally comfortable and results elsewhere mean Spurs’ top-four hopes have suffered an important setback.

Fatorda (Goa), Nov 14 (Ians) Fc Goa fell 3-1 to Kerala Blasters on Sunday in Kochi after the home side ran a blitzkrieg for seven minutes on either side of the interval to help themselves to three goals.
However, even with a deficit of three goals to overcome in front of a raucous partisan crowd, the Gaurs refused to give up and if not for some brilliant goalkeeping to combine with sloppy touches in the final third, Carlos Pena’s men could have still made a game of it.
Speaking to fcgoa.in following the defeat, the Spaniard felt this game would serve as a learning experience whilst showering praise on his troops for their fighting spirit.
“The team didn’t give up even after going into the half 2-0, which hurt us a lot. Even at 3-0, we believed,” Pena said. “We came back strong but it wasn’t enough.

Al Khbar (Saudi Arabia), Oct 10 (Ians) After qualifying for the AFC U-17 Asian Cup for the third consecutive time, head coach Bibiano Fernandes has said that job has not been done yet for the Indian team as the next target is World Cup qualification.
India have previously made it to the finals of the AFC U-17 Asian Cup (formerly known as the AFC U-16 Championship) in 2018 and 2020 under the stewardship of Bibiano Fernandes.
The Blue Colts had also secured qualification in 2015 for the 2016 edition of the event, but as the eventual hosts, they were already set to play the tournament.
While scenes of joy erupted from the Prince Mohammed Bin Fahd Stadium in Dammam, Saudi Arabia on Sunday, October 9, India head coach Fernandes remained calmly focused on the job ahead.
“I am very thankful to God and all the families back home – the boys’ families, staff families, and everyone in...

Al Khobar (Saudi Arabia), Oct 6 (Ians) The India U17 men’s national team will be on their guard as they prepare for their next test against Myanmar, who head coach Bibiano Fernandes believes is a tougher prospect than their previous opponents in the AFC U-17 Asian Cup 2023 Qualifiers.
India have begun their Group D campaign with back-to-back victories against Maldives (5-0) and Kuwait (3-0), and will now look to carry the momentum forward against Myanmar at the Prince Saud Bin Jalawi Sports City Stadium in Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia, on Friday.
The match will kick off at 8.45 Pm Ist, and will be streamed live on the Indian Football Team Facebook page.
“We have seen Myanmar play their last two matches, and they were actually the better team in their game against Kuwait. It was just unfortunate that they lost by a small margin,” said Bibiano Fernandes on the eve of...

Al Khobar (Saudi Arabia) Oct 4 (Ians) The India U-17 Men’s National Team will look to carry on their winning momentum in their second match of the AFC U-17 Asian Cup 2023 Qualifiers, where they take on Kuwait.
The India U-17s got off their qualifying campaign in Group D to a flying start with a 5-0 win over the Maldives in their first match. However, Kuwait will be a much more difficult prospect for the Indian youngsters, feels head coach Bibiano Fernandes.
“We have seen Kuwait play in their last two matches, and they are certainly a much stronger team than Maldives. They have certain key players as well, who are very good at their respective roles, and can really hurt us if we let them. I feel it will be a much closer game for us, but we are confident in our own abilities,” said Fernandes.

“I did not come here to sit around, I want to win trophies and take Fc Goa to new heights. I am hungry (for success),” Sadaoui said at a media interaction on Thursday.
“Our coach, Carlos Pena is someone who has won silverware with Fc Goa as a player. And this, right now, is his first-ever coaching assignment. So, obviously, he’s also very hungry to win.

After a strong summer box office run, theater chains have been girding themselves for a slowdown this fall amid a lack of studio tentpoles. And the disclosure that debt-laden Regal owner Cineworld is beginning Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings has ricocheted across the global theatrical industry.
“Imax has a longstanding, great partnership with them,” said Imax CFO Natasha Fernandes at the Bank of America Media, Communications and Entertainment Conference on Wednesday, when asked about Cineworld’s bankruptcy proceedings. The exec added: “We have a strong liquidity position and a flexible business model, so we can kind of maneuver and navigate changes in the exhibition landscape from that point of view.”
In August, Imax said that it inked an expanded deal with Cineworld to open or upgrade 52 of its systems in Cineworld locations by 2026. (In total, Imax operates 1,600-plus screens globally, with 773 in China and 363 in the United States.

Imax Corp. CFO Natasha Fernandes said the company is “not exposed as much” as other business partners of Cineworld to the Regal Cinemas parent’s bankruptcy filing.
The No. 2 global exhibitor made the long-expected move this morning, citing the impact of Covid on its business.
Speaking at the Bank of America 2022 Media, Communications & Entertainment Conference, Fernandes credited the nature of lease agreements as well as Imax’s presence in top-grossing markets. “Imax has a longstanding, great partnership” with Cineworld, she said, and “we have a strong liquidity position and a flexible business model, so we can maneuver and navigate changes in the exhibition landscape.”
Imax theaters operate under a master lease agreement, she continued. “What that means is that we don’t have single agreements for each screen. We have one agreement that governs them all. … You’re not exposed as much from that perspective.”

London, Aug 23 (Ians) Manchester United earned a deserved 2-1 victory over Liverpool at Old Trafford to kick-start the Erik ten Hag era and leave their rivals winless after three Premier League games.
Ten Hag elected to drop Cristiano Ronaldo and Harry Maguire following successive losses to begin the campaign, a decision that was rewarded by a much-improved display, reports Dpa. An incisive move culminated in Sancho calmly slotting past Alisson after 16 minutes as Liverpool conceded first in a club-record seventh consecutive Premier League game.
Marcus Rashford’s goal early in the second half gave United breathing space prior to Mohamed Salah’s header nine minutes from time, which proved a mere consolation.
The hosts’ first-half display was in complete contrast to their 4-0 loss at Brentford, with Anthony Elanga — preferred to Ronaldo — striking the post early on with just Alisson to beat.
