Warning: contains spoilers for The Gold episodes 1 – 6.
In the final moments of BBC drama The Gold, the special taskforce investigators come to a ground-shaking realisation: all this time, they’ve only been chasing half of the swag, £13 million of the £26 million’s worth of bullion stolen in the infamous 1983 Brink’s-Mat bullion robbery. By 1986 they’d put away a handful of villains who committed or profited from the heist, but that was far from the extent of it. “Where do we start?” asks Di Brightwell. “At the beginning,” answers Dci Boyce.
It remains to be seen if The Gold will return to BBC One to tell the rest of the Brink’s-Mat story, but if does, there’s plenty of material. The investigation has continued decades after the event, as the cash was followed into international drug imports, original convictions were spent, and several suspects were killed in gangland executions years later.

6 Days is a new feature film chronicling the events that took place during the notorious Iranian Embassy siege in London, 1980, when the whole country stopped still and looked on as a tense standoff played out between the British security forces and armed militants, culminating in a dramatic and brutal assault. Directed by Toa Fraser, the film was shot on location in London’s Knightsbridge. The screenplay was written by acclaimed screenwriter Glenn Standring after extensive research and interviews with various individuals who played a key part in the days leading up to, during, and after the Embassy siege.
The film largely follows the perspective of three people who played a vital part in the events at the time – Hostage negotiator Max Vernon (Mark Strong), the man responsible for communicating with the terrorists inside the building; News Reporter Kate Adie (Abbie Cornish), who was covering the events for the BBC and...

Last night, a University Challenge contestant became internet famous for getting a fright when his teammate buzzed in to answer a question.
Theology student Charlie Clegg - appearing with his St John's College, Oxford teammates - seemed to be quite surprised by the use of the buzzer.
They're loud, those buzzers (watch to the end) #universitychallenge pic.twitter.com/hN68ALHE13

It's even funnier than the time a guy rocked up to University Challenge wearing a pleather vest and chunky silver chain combo.
Naturally, Twitter found the whole thing completely hilarious:

Sean McAllister is a filmmaker with three children – he often faces danger in conflict zones and is sometimes away for months. How does it affect his family?
Last autumn, Sean McAllister was snatched by the Syrian secret police, in possession of a lethal piece of equipment. A 46-year-old independent filmmaker who tends to attract the adjective "maverick", Sean was using a high-definition camera hidden in a pair of sunglasses to covertly document the growing rebellion in Syria. The authorities were convinced that he was a spy.
He was detained with political prisoners who were blindfolded, beaten and crammed into cells so crowded that they could not lie down to sleep.
Sean would be the first to admit he is not a gung-ho war correspondent but he has a knack of finding stories in countries that are promptly convulsed by violent revolution. And he certainly oozes the kind of black humour...
