The Nintendo Entertainment System is the most important console in the history of home gaming. After the video game industry crash of 1983 and several years of arcade success, many still wondered whether video games still had a place in homes everywhere. Then, almost out of nowhere, Nintendo and the Nes rescued our favorite hobby from the abyss and put it on the fast track to becoming the cultural cornerstone we know it as today.
The main reason for the Nes’ massive success story was its enormous library of great titles. Many of Nintendo’s long-standing franchises got their starts on the Nes, and while some of the console’s games have aged better than others, all of them deserve our love and respect for helping reignite the industry and kicking off the fun that would ensue for decades to come.

Talk about wish fulfillment. Aaron Paul, who starred in AMC's Breaking Bad- considered by many to be one of the finest TV shows ever produced- has had a dream role in mind for quite sometime. You may have heard about the big screen adaptation of Stephen King's The Dark Tower that is inching its way towards production. You have also heard about how it's taken forever for everything to come together, with several studios, writers, directors, and actors coming and going from the ambitious project. What you may not know, is that Paul is something of a super fan, and he's been lobbying for the role of Eddie Dean in the book. A new report claims that Paul may have finally snagged his dream gig.
If true, this would be the end of an odyssey that began back in 2012 when Paul made his intentions very clear:

In case you couldn’t tell from the above photo, CBS’ new medical drama Code Black is all about controlled chaos. Angels Memorial Hospital is frantic, intense and overwhelming.
With an influx of patients so great, there often aren’t enough resources to treat them — a situation known as “code black” — there’s no time for hooking up in the on-call room. An attending even tells two bickering docs, “If nobody’s taking their clothes off, I need you both on the floor now.”

Part of the appeal of indulging in art and entertainment is offering your own interpretation on the subjects, themes and underlying concepts. That may sound pretentious, but I stand by my statement. In movies, books and video games, it’s not uncommon for the creators to slip in hidden meanings that aren’t obvious at a cursory glance.
I’m not necessarily talking about high-end culture, either. Even Mario has its fair share of theories and fan readings. Concepts that are bizarre and abstract – such as the world Mario inhabits – are rife for interpretation, but we often oversee them in favour of a narrative that’s relatively straightforward. The 8-bit plumber may spend a large portion of his life diving into giant pipes and giving anthropomorphic mushrooms a concussion, but we know his motives, so we just go along with it.

Trust me, boys and girls, I wish I had something more exciting to show you. But seeing as how this is probably one of the most anticipated films in ever, I figured a little something is better than nothing. Courtesy of JoBlo, we now have our first look at the poster that's going to adorning the walls of your local cinema once the full promotional push for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice gets under way.
A trusted source of their's snapped this picture of the poster which reveals that WB/DC is going with reworked versions of previously released promo stills for Wonder Woman, Superman, and Batman. Here, take a gander:
Yeah. I know.
But hey, it'll be cool to walk into a theater and see this in-person, won't it? It'll make it somehow more real that this is all actually happening. The rumored teaser trailer attached to Jupiter Ascending...

There’s no denying that platformers have played a major role in gaming history, but it’s also true that good ones are few and far between. That’s especially true these days, where first-person shooters and large scale action-adventure games have stolen the limelight from the genre that Mario defined. Perhaps it’s because it’s so hard to make a great one, what with the need for precise controls, near flawless jumping mechanics and a unique draw to set it apart from the many others out there. Or, maybe it’s just a sign of the times.
Like Nintendo and Ubisoft, to an extent, Flying Wild Hog and Nordic Games aren’t willing to let the sidescrolling dream die. Their latest — a PS3, Xbox 360 and PC digital download bearing the strange name of Juju — harkens back to the platformers of yesteryear, while mixing together mechanics that borrow from both the past and present.

'Emmanuelle' movies producer Alain Siritzky dead at 72 (photo: Sylvia Kristel in 'Emmanuelle' 1974) Emmanuelle franchise producer Alain Siritzky died after what has been described as "a short illness" on Saturday, October 11, 2014, at a Paris hospital. Siritzky, whose credits include dozens of Emmanuelle movies and direct-to-video efforts, several of which starring Sylvia Kristel in the title role, was 72. Ironically, Alain Siritzky didn't produce the original, epoch-making 1974 Emmanuelle. He became involved in that Yves Rousset-Rouard production via his Parafrance Films, which distributed Emmanuelle in France. 'Emmanuelle': 1974 movie sensation A couple of years after the release of Deep Throat and The Devil in Miss Jones (not to mention Boys in the Sand and Eyes of a Stranger), and the year after Marlon Brando and Maria Schneider sparked a furor by having simulated sex in Bernardo Bertolucci's Last Tango in Paris, the 1974 French release Emmanuelle still managed to become a worldwide cause célèbre.

20th Century Fox has tapped Evan Spiliotopoulos, the man who wrote the upcoming summer blockbuster Hercules, to adapt the novel "Seven Wonders" for the big screen. According to THR, Spiliotopoulos will write the tale of a man who adventures to the world's seven wonders trying to piece together the mystery surrounding the murder of his reclusive, mathematician brother.
It would appear Herclues director Brett Ratner took a liking to Spiliotopoulos while working on the Dwayne Johnson sword and sandal epic. Ratner is producing the film with his RatPac Entertainment shingle, along with Flynn Picture Company. The latter company is the one that came up with the concept for the book, which is set to hit stands this September and is being written by Ben Mezrich.
Spiliotopoulos's other credits include the planned sequel to Wanted, and a bunch of those straight-to-video Disney sequels. No word yet on who will direct or star in the feature.

Wes Anderson's new film features a blizzard of star cameos, but one character is present throughout - the lobby boy played by Tony Revolori. He talks about getting threats from Bill Murray and reveals his grand ambitions
For Tony Revolori, the scariest moment of making The Grand Budapest Hotel was meeting Bill Murray, not least because the actor was threatening to throw his dad in the hotel's swimming pool. "He was like, 'I've thrown parents in the pool before, don't make me throw you,'" says Tony, adopting a hangdog look and mimicking Murray in the lowest, most droll voice possible. He wasn't joking: according to Revolori, Murray gave a stage parent an unwanted dip on the set of Wes Anderson's previous film, Moonrise Kingdom. Thankfully for Revolori's dad, the former Ghostbuster went up to him after the wrap and said, "Actually, I've decided you're Ok. I won't...

Here are 25 more great, unsung films - this time, from the year 1994...
Yes, 1994. The year cinemas were dominated by such whimsical wonders as The Lion King, Forrest Gump, The Mask and, erm, True Lies. It was also the year Gump dominated the Academy Awards, and Four Weddings And A Funeral loomed large at the Baftas.
As ever, there was so much more to the year's cinematic landscape than Tom Hanks' park bench ramblings or Hugh Grant mithering from beneath his gorgously crafted hair. To prove it, here's a list of 25 films that, in our estimation, are among its most underappreciated. There's much horror, drama, tears and laughter, plus a couple of classic documentaries, too.

War? Huh? What is it good for? Now some would say absolutely nothing. I would tend to agree, on the socio-political side of things. Wars are messy, expensive and tear families and countries apart. But, my word, they provide some pretty good anecdotes to tell decades later.
Winning at all costs is the prime directive of armies and generals everywhere. In the eternal words of Ricky Bobby, if you’re not first you’re last. And nowhere is that statement more appropriate than the fields of war. One way to win is to make sure that tactically you are watertight and have the right weaponry to see you through. Warfare gave us machine guns, tanks and atomic bombs in a kind of military-style game on one-upmanship. These weapons decided the outcomes of wars, but there are some weapons once developed that were, how shall we say it, ridiculously idiotic and hilariously nonsensical.

The opportunity to see a full-scale production of an Odets play should be motivation enough for any theater aficionado; like the chance at a title match, it doesn't come along very often. It's not a knock-out, but Golden Boy lands some mean punches, winning by decision.
While notably winded and running out of room at the end of the third round, this production has some very powerful scenes, capturing a moment in American history when plays had large casts and socialism was popular enough in corners of the U.S. to make moneyed men truly uncomfortable. (Note: If you label President Obama as a Socialist, please read more on the subject.) Taking on the imperial juggernaut of capitalism in a boxing ring that works as a metaphor, it is the story of a battle for the soul of a country being fought over the future of one young man's life.

First up, you should probably plan your lunch break around Days of Our Lives, because something gay is happening, and our own snicks will be liveblogging the action today and tomorrow.
Very sad, news. Director Tony Scott apparently committed suicide last night by jumping off an L.A. bridge. The younger brother of Ridley, Tony Scott scored a number of number of movie hits, including Top Gun, Beverly Hills Cop 2 and most recently Unstoppable in 2010. In recent years Scott had ventured into TV producing (He was an Ep on The Good Wife.)
In a moment of gross stupidity, Congressman Todd Akin, who is running against Senator Claire McCaskill for her Senate seat, said “From what I understand from doctors… if it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.” Akin has since said he "misspoke" but still doesn't support abortion in cases of rape,...

As a new continent drifts into view, Blizzard details contents of the Digital Deluxe and physical Collector's editions.
More info after the jump.
The latest World of Warcraft expansion, which requires The Burning Crusade, Wrath of the Lich King, and Cataclysm, expansions to play, bring new classes and a level 90 cap to the Mmo. Mists of Pandaria introduces the Pandaren and Monk classes and is totally a hard to take serious introduction of a China-like continent to the game. No, I was aware of it before now, but I'm still baffled that it exists.
Here's the synopsis for the expansion:
You've ended Deathwing's destructive rampage and saved the dragonflights from extinction. Now you must unlock the mysteries of the lost continent and discover the dark secrets of Pandaria's past. Explore ancient kingdoms hidden since before the Sundering, plunder vast treasures from the depths of the forgotten vaults, and rise to...

Final Position: 2nd
After yesterday trying to convince you all that Manchester City, Premier League Champions, had a poor season, I now turn my intention to putting forward the notion that Manchester United, who finished 2nd, had a very good season. Don’t say I’m not ambitious.
My simple matter rests on this; Manchester United never expected to win the Premier League this season. Yes it can be argued that they always expect to win the Premier League, but this was quite obviously a transitional year as they tried to introduce youngsters like De Gea, Smalling, Evans, Jones, Welbeck, Cleverley to be prepared for a long term title challenge. The fact that they managed one this year with a young squad, a rather large injury crisis, a goalkeeper who looks like, before he came here, he had never eaten a meal larger than a spoonful and Johnny Evans starting...

“Only Fools and Horses”, the British sitcom which has been named the greatest comedy of all time on numerous occasions on these shores is being remade for American audiences by ABC.
A Brit hit translation for Us screens is not uncommon of course, with Ricky Gervais’ The Office being the most recent big success to be transferred stateside and to huge success at NBC.
When a U.S. Only Fools was first announced many British fans instantly expected this to fail, with even Del Boy himself David Jason being skeptical of the possibility of it being anything other than a failure. Early judgement was to be expected, but as news snippets and details of casting come out, are there signs that this ‘horse’ may have legs?
First up was the announcement that John Leguizamo would be playing Del Boy…

A few days a go PETA the animal rights activists decided that one of the major items on their agenda would be to try and get Nintendo to remove the Tanooki suit from Super Mario 3D Land because according to them “By wearing Tanooki, Mario is sending the message that it’s Ok to wear fur”. Well according to a press release today that mini protest was actually just a joke:
“Mario fans: Relax!” The organisation said that its spoof flash game – Mario Kills Tanooki – was “meant to be tongue-in-cheek, a fun way to call attention to a serious issue, that raccoon dogs are skinned alive for their fur.”
Apparently PETA was surprised the campaign was “taken so literally” and that none of their initial comments were meant to be taken seriously. Personally I don’t buy that for one second, I think there was such a backlash by Nintendo...

It's surprisingly good.
That's our take on the upcoming fall television season, based on what we've seen and interviews we've done about this season’s new programming. There are at least six shows that look terrific, and at least eight more than have definite potential.
Of course, there are a few stinkers, but that's to be expected.
And sure, there are a few shows that seem like they're aping each other: Once Upon a Time and Grimm both taking on fairy tales, and Pan Am and The Playboy Club both exploring life in the 1960s. But in each case, there is one show that is clearly better than the other.
Thankfully, there are only a few remakes – namely, Charlie's Angels and Prime Suspect.
And while the supernatural has long been fodder for TV, this falls continues the very welcome trend of fantasy becoming more sophisticated, with programming like A Gifted Man...

It’s getting to be that time of year again, when thousands and thousands of starry-eyed sprockets launch their college careers. Hopefully, they’re eager and excited, but, likely, there’s also some fear there, even if they are starting out in a new school not too far from where they attended high school. While I wouldn’t say that college was the best years of my life (because I would hate to think that the best years of my life are already behind me), my experience was pretty good. It got better once I figured a few things out for myself. Maybe, just maybe, writing this column will save a few of that new crop of sprockets a little bit of time and worry.

Lifetime’s Drop Dead Diva returns this Sunday at 9/8c to deal with the aftermath of last season’s car accident — and as it turns out, the biggest victim of that mishap may be Jane and Grayson’s relationship. Series creator Josh Berman and leading lady Brooke Elliott shared with TVLine a preview of Season 3′s many romances, heartaches, guest stars and one really uncomfortable sex talk.

A little over two years ago, AfterElton.com brought readers a list of the 37 Hottest Guys in Theater, and since then, the New York Stage has only become increasingly sexified. The lines between Broadway and Hollywood continue to blur, and as young men come to recognition in NYC, they're often quickly whisked away to Tinseltown to showcase not only their amazing talent, but often they're breathtaking good looks.
While it's tempting to include every Hollywood hottie who graces the stage on this list (a certain Lee Pace and Luke Macfarlane spring to mind), the point here is to honor the men who are mostly known for rockin' the live stages here in New York.
And so, without further ado, we present, in alphabetical order, the list (39!) of this year's hottest guys in theater!

The name "de Blob" may not carry as much weight as other revolutionaries like Che Guevera, Mohandas Gandhi, and George Washington, but that doesn't mean that he doesn't mean the world to the citizens of Chroma City. In 2009, de Blob single-handedly freed countless Graydians from the oppressive control of Comrade Black and the Inkt Corporation in his original, Wii-exclusive game. Now Thq has brought him back (on multiple plaforms) to help save the citizens of Prisma City from a similar monochromatic fate in "de Blob 2."
The Basics
Picking up right where the original game left off, "de Blob 2" puts the player in control of the viscous titular character and is tasked with bringing color back to Prisma City. Comrade Black has again succeeded in stripping yet another city of its pigment, and de Blob is the Graydians' only hope of rising up, and taking down their oppressive leader. As In Treatment's first openly gay patient, Jesse joins the ranks of television teens like Kurt from Glee, Justin from Ugly Betty, and Marshall and Lionel from The United States of Tara. And what better way to induct him into TV's gay teen pantheon than to have its current members review In Treatment in their own words?
Join us as we recap Jesse's episodes of In Treatment, with commentary from your favorite gay TV teens.
Jesse (played by Dane DeHaan)
We start by meeting Jesse, an openly gay 16-year-old aspiring photographer with a serious attitude problem and issues surrounding the fact he’s adopted. Dr. Paul Weston has apparently been his therapist for some time. Jesse begins this session by snapping a photo of him at the front door while wearing a t-shirt that reads “Trust Me, I'm a Virgin.”
Lionel: He isn't. I know these things. And why should he be?...

On tonight’s Big Brother show…..
Spirits are low in the Big Brother house today as living on basic rations and thoughts of the looming eviction pervade everyone’s mood. The general consensus is that Mario will stay but Ben will be on dangerous ground.
Shabby volunteers herself and Caoimhe to take part in a “Human Sponges” task. Dressed in wet suits with sponges attached, they must jump into the pool and absorb as much water as possible in order to empty the pool completely. If they manage to complete the task they will win “iced treats” for the house. However, both soon realise it’s not very easy to accomplish and they find the rest of the Housemates’ apathy frustrating so they give up. Later in the diary room they complain about their housemates’ behaviour and general lack of support.

Once the baby stopped waking up every two to four hours it would be time to resume normal gaming habits again, or so I told myself.
I’d done nothing for the last four months but get up, go to work, come home, help clean the house, help make dinner, give the baby a bath, put the baby to bed, hang out with my wife for an hour, go to bed tired, wake up exhausted – rinse and repeat. Every night I sat on the couch and stared at the growing collection of games that I had no time to play but refused to stop buying. Invariably the task of actually picking one, just one, to play to completion would prove too daunting and I would spend the night in search of even more sedentary activity.
Usually this devolved into trolling gaming sites or curled up on the couch, eyes slowly...

What do the casts of Scrubs and Cougar Town have in common? Well, beside Executive Producer, Bill Lawrence, the casts love to spend time on set with their kids playing New Super Mario Brothers Wii. The game is usually a big hit at their cast and crew parties. Both John C. McGinley (Scrubs) and Christa Miller (Cougar Town) love the game and it's usually a staple gift item for their kids. Kiddie country sensation Taylor Swift is coming to town. Just for kicks I checked Stubhub to see how much people were willing to resell tickets to the sold out show. I nearly threw up my Twinkie when I saw quite a few seats priced at $l,200. That’s not a typo. They are expecting some parent to pay $1,2000 for their kid to see a twig with a blonde wig. Since the kid isn’t of driving age, that means the parent is willing to pay $2,400 to make their kid happy. While the seats were on the floor, they were nearly 50 rows back from the stage.
For that price, I expect to be close enough to the stage to know if Taylor Swift wears panties or a g-string. I want to be close enough to use qualify as her Ob-gyn. I...

Despite its ungainly title, there really isn’t anything all that “new” to New Super Mario Bros. Wii, the umpteenth entry in Nintendo’s vast Mario empire. If anything, it’s a deliberately nostalgic, graphically updated throwback to the mustachioed plumber’s old 2-D, side-scrolling adventures. Yet again, Princess Peach is kidnapped by the big bad Bowser and his odd little coterie of mini-Bowser minions. (Are these horn-shelled doofuses his offspring? Brothers? Nephews? Water-induced clones a la the gremlins in Gremlins?) Yet again, Mario and his brother Luigi must save the helpless maiden by flattening toadstools and dodging slow-moving giant...
