It was recently revealed that, after a successful few years on streaming, Paramount Pictures is finally making moves to bring the Star Trek franchise back to theaters. However, a fourth instalment in the J.J. Abrams-produced franchise getting yet another writer is news to lead star Chris Pine.
The actor first played Captain Kirk in 2009's Star Trek, later reprising the role in 2013's Star Trek Into Darkness and 2016's Star Trek Beyond.
Abrams sharing plans for a fourth instalment a few years back left most of the cast scratching their heads as none of them were signed up to appear at the time. Now, after several aborted launches, Steve Yockey is the latest scribe to take a crack at the screenplay.
Asked about that by Business Insider (via SFFGazette.com), Pine said, "I honestly don’t know. There was something in the news of a new writer coming on board.

Chris Pine was taken by surprise when news hit that Steve Yockey, creator of the Max series “The Flight Attendant,” had signed on to write the script for “Star Trek 4.” Why? “I thought there was already a script,” the actor recently told Business Insider during an interview on his “Poolman” press tour.
Pine’s not wrong, as a potential “Star Trek 4” has gone through multiple iterations in the years since the 2016 release of “Star Trek Beyond.” Pine took on the role of Captain Kirk in J.J. Abrams’ 2009 franchise reboot “Star Trek,” and reprised the character in 2013’s “Star Trek Into Darkness” and 2016’s “Beyond.” Variety exclusively reported in March that Paramount Pictures remained committed to making a fourth “Star Trek” film to be headlined by Pine and his co-stars.

William Shatner recently told Canadian Press that he wouldn’t rule out returning as Captain Kirk in a new “Star Trek” project if the script impressed him. While the actor’s age might pose an issue as Shatner turned 93 years old in March, that’s nothing a bit of de-aging technology couldn’t fix.
“It’s an intriguing idea,” Shatner said about returning as Kirk. “It’s almost impossible. But if was a great role and so well-written and if there were a reason to be there not just to make a cameo appearance, but if there were a genuine reason for the character appearing, I might consider it.”
Shatner suggested that he could play a younger version of the Starship Enterprise captain through de-aging technology, similar to how 80-year-old Harrison Ford turned up as a much younger Indiana Jones (circa the character’s age in “Raiders of the Lost Ark...

Steve Yockey, creator of the Max series “The Flight Attendant,” is joining Starfleet as the new screenwriter for “Star Trek 4.”
Story details remain under a powerful cloaking device, but Paramount Pictures and Bad Robot still intend the project to be the final chapter for the cast that rebooted the franchise in movie theaters with 2009’s “Star Trek,” including Chris Pine (as Capt. James T. Kirk), Zachary Quinto (as Cmdr. Spock), Zoe Saldaña (as Lt. Nyota Uhura), Karl Urban (as Dr. Leonard McCoy), John Cho (as Lt. As reported in Deadline today, Paramount has officially announced that they are developing a new "Star Trek" feature film. It will be the first "Star Trek" movie since the release of "Star Trek Beyond" in 2016, but the fourteenth "Star Trek" film overall.
The new film will be directed by Toby Haynes, a prolific British television director who has helmed episodes of "M.I. High," "Doctor Who," and the British version of "Utopia." His most recent directing job was six episodes of the hit "Star Wars" series "Andor." Interestingly, he also directed the celebrated "Black Mirror" episode "USS Callister," which was a darkly humorous riff on "Star Trek" and science fiction fandom. He also directed the 2019 TV movie "Brexit: The Uncivil War" starring Benedict Cumberbatch. The new "Star Trek" film is slated to be written by Seth Grahame-Smith, the author of the books "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" and "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.

It follows the story of Corwin, who awakens on Earth with no memory, but soon finds he is a prince of a royal family that has the ability to travel through different dimensions of reality, called shadows, and rules over the one true world, Amber.

Netflix has canceled “Gentefied,” a half-hour Latino comedy-drama from Marvin Lemus and Linda Yvette Chávez, produced by America Ferrera. Season 2 of “Gentefied,” starring JJ Soria, Carlos Santos and Joaquin Cosio, was just released on the streamer this past November.
“Gentefied” followed the lives of three Mexican American cousins in Boyle Heights who must tackle gentrification, borders, babies and family separation, all while attempting to save their grandpa’s taco shop. “Gentefied” also starred Karrie Martin, Annie Gonzalez, Julissa Calderon, and even Ferrera herself played a character on the show.
Critics overwhelmingly liked the series when it debuted in 2020. The review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes gave “Gentefied” a score of 96% on the “Tomatometer,” and an average audience score of 76%. The last highly-rated Latino-focused sitcom that Netflix slashed from its programming slate was Gloria Calderón Kellett’s reboot of “One Day at a Time.”

Nicholas Meyer has deep ties to the “Star Trek” franchise as the director of “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan” and “Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country,” the former of which is often regarded as the best “Star Trek” feature film ever made. More recently, Meyer served as a producer on the first season of the CBS All Access series “Star Trek: Discovery.” It turns out Meyer attempted to return to the “Star Trek” film world by pitching a detailed treatment for a new movie storyline to Paramount, although he tells Trek Movie that he has yet to hear back from the studio.

Trekkies are likely divided on what the news of a new Star Trek movie could mean for the franchise since the idea of Kalinda Vazquez, who has written for Star Trek: Discovery isn’t the issue. It’s where the story is going to go from this point on since the rebooted version with Chris Pine and his fellow cast members has been doing fine from a monetary standpoint, but the overall story is something that has split the fanbase a bit. So thinking of where the current project might head is understandably uncertain since it’s hard to guess whether Kalinda will

A new ‘Star Trek’ movie is in the works at Paramount Pictures and for the first time ever, a woman could well be writing in the form of ‘Fear The Walking Dead’ scribe and co-executive producer Kalinda Vazquez.
JJ Abrams Bad Robot will be producing if the final script gets the green light to go-ahead.
Vazquez is no stranger to the Star Trek Universe, she has previously written episodes of the ‘Trek’ TV series which is now streaming on Paramount Plus. She has also written an episode of ‘Star Trek: Short Treks’ in 2019 and in 2020, wrote the teleplay for “Terra Firma, Part 2,” an episode of “Star Trek: Discovery” which is set almost entirely in the Mirror Universe, in which the benevolent Federation is instead the bloodthirsty Terran Empire.

Boldly going where only men have gone before, “Fear the Walking Dead” co-executive producer Kalinda Vazquez is writing an original “Star Trek” movie for Paramount Pictures, with J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot producing. Should the film get a greenlight, Vazquez would be the first woman ever to pen a “Star Trek” feature.
There are no details yet on the nature of Vazquez’s approach, including whether it would include any previously established “Star Trek” characters. But Vazquez has recently written episodes of the burgeoning galaxy of “Trek” TV series now streaming on Paramount Plus. In 2019, she wrote “Ask Not,” an episode of “Star Trek: Short Treks” in which Capt. Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) tests a Starfleet cadet. And in 2020, Vazquez wrote the teleplay for “Terra Firma, Part 2,” an episode of “Star Trek: Discovery” set almost entirely in the Mirror Universe, in which the benevolent Federation is instead the bloodthirsty Terran Empire.

The blind deal is for an original movie that Vazquez pitched, though details about the project are being kept under wraps. Of note, Vazquez got her birth name from the original “Star Trek” television show — she was named after the character Kelinda from the 1968 Season 2 episode “By Any Other Name.”
The untitled Vazquez project comes after Paramount pumped the brakes on Noah Hawley’s “Star Trek” movie last August, as well as another project that was being hatched by Quentin Tarantino.
Vazquez broke out by teaming with “Game of Thrones” author George R.R. Martin on an HBO series adaptation of “Roadmarks,” the Roger Zelazny sci-fi novel. Vazquez most recently did...

After making a big splash on the small screen with Game of Thrones on HBO, it’s a wonder that competing networks haven’t shopped around George R.R. Martin’s other fantasy. That’s all about to change, though, after the esteemed author himself announced that Cinemax – a channel that also acts as a home to Banshee and The Knick – has snapped up the rights to create a live-action series based on Martin’s horror novella Skin Trade.
Billed as an “offbeat werewolf noir,” it’s understood that the project has entered the very early stages of planning, with Martin quick to note that Cinemax optioning the property doesn’t necessarily guarantee that it’ll see the light of day.

Kalinda Vazquez, who worked as an executive producer on "Once Upon a Time" after stints on "Nikita" and "Prison Break," is handling the adaptation. The next "Game of Thrones" could be right around the corner, with author George R.R. Martin announcing that Cinemax has optioned the rights to another one of his works.
Martin, who penned the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series that inspired "Thrones," revealed the news on his blog, writing that Cinemax has already ordered a pilot script based on "The Skin Trade," a novella Martin released in the 1980s that he describes as "werewolf noir." The story was originally released as part of a horror anthology called "Night Vision 5," which also featured a tale from Stephen King; it's been reprinted as a standalone novella several times since then, and has also been adapted into a comic book series and graphic novel.
According to Martin, he originally tried to bring "The Skin Trade" to TV way back in 1991, writing, "I have always thought there was a TV series (or maybe...

Fans of George R.R. Martin, rejoice! As well as Game Of Thrones, we’ll now be getting another TV show based on his work.
This is thanks to Cinemax (a sibling network to HBO, makers of Game Of Thrones), which has picked up the rights to his werewolf novella The Skin Trade.

Just when we think that Once Upon a Time has forgotten about our beloved Belle, the writers hit us with an episode like “Quiet Minds”. While Belle does not have much of a role in the present day storyline, it is nice to see her and Neal popping up in the past.

Once Upon A Time, Season 3, Episode 7: “Dark Hollow”
Written by Kalinda Vazquez & Andrew Chambliss
Directed by Guy Ferland
Airs Sundays at 8pm (Et) on ABC
What do Belle, the Blue Fairy, Jiminy Cricket, and the seven dwarfs have in common? This week’s opening of Once Upon a Time. The first few moments of “Dark Hollow” not only excite, they almost make us forget the horrific pacing that has plagued this season.
This episode kicks off informing us what took place right after the group departed for Neverland. Sadly, even with some quick thinking from Belle, other followers of Pan’s manage to make it into Storybrooke. By far the Storybrooke side of the episode is the more exciting of the two. Perhaps it’s because we have not seen these characters for some time, or maybe it’s that Neverland is starting to get a tad bit boring.

After a quick visit to Hong Kong where we see August (Pinocchio) turning back into wood, the titles pull up and this week’s Once Upon a Time is out of the chute.
While the episode this week does seem to focus of some pretty key story elements and its delightful to see Eion Bailey back as August; it seems to be mostly a filler episode that is setting up for the Season Finale. The episode tends to focus on August’s journey back to Storybrooke and the way/reasons why he finally returned.
One of the exiting things in the episode was seeing Snow finally getting out of her bed, in which caused her to find August living alone out in the woods.

Note: Do not read on if you have not seen Season 2, Episode 13 of The CW's "Nikita," entitled, "Clean Sweep."
It's no wonder that "Nikita" showrunner Craig Silverstein has been referring to this episode as "Game Change 2," since "Clean Sweep" managed to realign many allegiances going into the second half of the season. Percy has finally escaped from his Magneto-esque plastic prison, Oversight is all but eliminated, and Nikita and Michael are faced with the possibility of a real happy ending -- something that our heroine didn't actually seem all that enthusiastic about.
As much as Nikita has been searching for a home and a sense of identity this season, many of the peripheral characters have been repeatedly emphasizing the fact that she's a "killer," that she was "born for this" and that she really has no idea how to be anything but an assassin. While Michael's journey is arguably a...

['Nikita' - 'London Calling']
I knew that the streak of awesome 'Nikita' episodes had to end sooner or later, and last week's 'Clawback' was definitely a hard act to follow, but I was still a little disappointed by how emotionally disconnected I felt from 'London Calling.'
That's not to say that the episode was terrible, by any stretch of the imagination, but the danger of focusing a story around a character who isn't a series lead (and further, a character whom much of the fanbase actively dislikes) is that the audience will struggle to relate to the narrative. I'm sure that the producers hoped that we'd be invested in Cassandra's fate purely because she's the mother of Michael's child, but frankly, I couldn't care less whether she lived or died, which made the stakes of the episode practically non-existent.
It's not even the fault of the writer.

['Nikita' - 'Glass Houses']
Just when you think you've got 'Nikita' all figured out, those sneaky writers throw an end-of-episode curveball that has you reevaluating everything you've just witnessed, until you find yourself torn between admiring their chutzpah and wondering how the creative team plans to keep up the breakneck speed of these story lines.
One startling twist just wasn't enough tonight -- writer Kalinda Vazquez saw fit to toss in the mother of all cliffhangers almost as an afterthought, just when it seemed like the episode was winding down. I certainly didn't see the first shock coming, let alone the second, and that's one of the many reasons I love this scrappy show so much: just when you expect it to feint left, it roundhouses you right in the jaw instead. I love a series that can keep me on my toes, and there are too few...

This discovery inevitably makes Nikita wonder what life would be like if she never knew about Division and was just a normal civilian. Expect things to go haywire when Michael is forced to report the guardian’s treasonous behavior back to Percy.
Check out some images of the upcoming twentieth episode, which airs on April 28th.
