Exclusive: Investigation Discovery is getting into the topical space with a dark twist.
The Warner Bros. Discovery-owned cable network is launching Crimefeed, a weekly, topical true-crime show hosted by Nancy Grace.
Crimefeed will launch at 11 p.m. Wednesday October 11. Deadline understands that nine episodes have been ordered.
It comes after Grace hosted her first ID show, ID Special Report: The Long Island Serial Killer, about the Gilgo Beach serial killings, in August.
Given the popularity of weekly true-crime podcasts, it marks an interesting step to air a topical series on television.
The series will dig into the top true-crime stories of the moment as they unfold in real time.
Grace will discuss cases with journalist Mara S. Campo, who is the Global News Anchor and Managing Editor for Revolt Black News, and former police sergeant and private investigator Derrick Levesseur, who previously hosted Breaking Homicide for ID.

Nancy Grace was floored by the 2005 murder of her close friend Pamela Vitale. But as hard as it was to process the loss, what came next was equally challenging: Police initially identified Vitale’s husband, prominent criminal defense attorney Daniel Horowitz, as a suspect.
Grace knew in her gut that Horowitz didn’t murder his wife — and just 5 days after the crime, the real culprit, a 16-year-old neighbor, was arrested and eventually sentenced to life in prison.
All of this unfolds in the first episode of Oxygen’s new series “Injustice With Nancy Grace,” which examines little known cases involving wrongful accusations, botched investigations, suppressed evidence, unclear motives, or unjust sentences. In the premiere, she looks at the Vitale case and gives Horowitz a chance to share what was going through his mind through the tragedy and its aftermath.

Each episode of the true crime series will expose wrongful accusations, botched investigations, suppressed evidence, unclear motives and unjust sentences, according to Oxygen’s description of the show.
Grace says she plans to use the platform to help solve crimes.
“To solve unsolved homicides, you need a fire inside you, propelling you to uncover the tiniest shards of evidence for answers. As a voice for those that can no longer speak for themselves, a crime victim turned crime fighter, I want justice,” she said in a statement. “At Oxygen, we investigate shocking injustices that may never have come to light. Until now.”
The longtime legal analyst and former Fulton County, Georgia prosecutor has a personal connection to crime. Her fiancé was murdered in the 1970s, while she was a student in college.

Current TV’s long day in court may finally be over.
In March of this year, the cable network — founded and ultimately sold to Al Jazeera by former vice president Al Gore — finally reached a settlement with Keith Olbermann, who filed a $70 million lawsuit against his former employer after being fired in March 2012.
Now a San Francisco judge has formally dismissed another multimillion-dollar lawsuit brought against Current and Gore: A $5 million complaint brought by TV consultant John Terenzio, who claimed that Gore and his team stole his idea to sell the struggling cable network to the massive Middle Eastern news corporation Al Jazeera.

It’s the possible beginning of the end for a media consultant’s lawsuit against Al Gore and Current TV. John Terenzio wants $5M from his suit alleging that he was instrumental in Current’s $500M sale to Al Jazeera earlier this year — and that the former VP and his cable channel squeezed him out of the deal. But on Tuesday Superior Court Judge Ernest Goldsmith in San Francisco dismissed the defendants’ demurrer motion, finding that Terenzio failed to offer enough facts to establish “personal liability” on Gore’s part. The judge has given Terenzio 10 days to amend his complaint with new info. The case has moved relatively quickly since it was first filed in the spring. The plaintiff argued that Gore initially opposed Terenzio’s proposal to cut a deal with the news service backed by the government of Qatar, but ended up with an agreement that was virtually...

On Tuesday, former U.S. vice president Al Gore scored a knockdown -- if not yet a total knockout -- when a San Francisco judge dismissed a $5 million lawsuit brought by media consultant John Terenzio, who alleged being cut out of Current TV's $500 million sale to Al Jazeera. In the lawsuit, Terenzio claimed he conceived the idea for the distribution of an American version of Al Jazeera, presented a proposal for Al Jazeera titled "Path to U.S. Distribution" and identified Current TV as a potential acquisition target. "Judge Joe Brown" has been adjourned by CBS Television Distribution, the company says in a statement.
The popular daytime court show, second highest-rated behind "Judge Judy," was in negotiations to continue on the air, but Ctd wanted Brown to cut his salary to reflect the decline in ratings in recent years. Negotiations faltered and now the show has been canceled.
"We would like to thank Joe for 15 great years, as well as executive producer John Terenzio and the entire staff for all their hard work and dedication to the show," says Ctd, in a statement.
"Judge Joe Brown" was averaging 3.4 million daily viewers in 2013, which is down from an average of 4.1 million a year ago. The show was also down in the women 25-54 demographic, pulling just a 1.1 household rating.
The court show is expected to run in originals and reruns on the Fox-owned TV stations that currently carry the show until September.

Las Vegas -- Muffled rather than manic, business-like if not actually busy --- those descriptions best capture the first full day of activity at the 47th annual Natpe confab, which unspooled Monday.
While a few syndicators duly obliged by announcing clearances for various off-net or off-cable shows during the past couple of days, the recession has clearly taken its toll on what used to be the center of the syndie biz -- the bustling, glad-handing Natpe convention floor.
No longer.

The Mandalay Bay floor itself is mercifully smaller than in the past few sessions, making at least for more efficient foot traffic.
