This week’s The Curse of Oak Island showed compelling theories of human activity dating way back to the 1200s and argued that these ancient folk may be responsible for the Oak Island mystery.
A lot of last night’s airtime was taken up by the guys worrying about the approach of Hurricane Lee and their concern it might cause damage to the Garden Shaft, Lot 5, and elsewhere.
Perhaps for that reason, this episode was heavy on the theory. First, the guys were joined in the War Room by one of Ian Spooner’s colleagues, geoscientist Aaron Satkowski, to discuss his isotope analysis of two artifacts pulled out of the ground in the Money Pit area.
Aaron examined two pieces of wood, including an ax, excavated from the spoils of the old RF1 caisson at about 180 feet.

The Curse of Oak Island is back on Tuesday as the Fellowship of the Dig suspect they’ve encountered the infamous Chappell Vault, and there’s a new structure uncovered at the swamp.
This week, the borehole drill team led by geologist Terry Matheson has some very exciting news. In recent weeks, the guys have been exploring a void or cavern known as Aladdin’s Cave, where they believe treasure may be buried.
However, a preview for tonight suggests the guys have hit another void at 183 feet somewhere within the area of the Money Pit.
It’s not clear if they’ve started digging elsewhere away from Aladdin’s Cave, though that is a possibility as the Laginas want to put a large caisson over the Cave, meaning the drill team would need to make room.

Chappell Roan was getting ready to perform in London this summer when one of the drag queens she’d picked to open her show told her: “You’re a drag queen. You know that, right?” Those words led to an immediate epiphany for the singer. She realized her stage name, the costumes, the makeup… all of it was her own version of drag. “I was like, ‘Oh my god. That’s what this is,’” she recalls, pointing out her shaved-off eyebrows. “I just happen to perform drag to my own songs.

Sydney, Aug 3 (Ians) Former Australia cricketer Ian Chappell believes captains were partly to blame for the lack of leg-spin options in the current Test team, saying skippers are yet to understand how wrist-spin bowling works in the longest format of the game.
In the last 10 years, off-spinner Nathan Lyon has led Australia’s spin attack in Tests. But his series-ending calf injury during the second Ashes Test meant Australia had to use young off-spinner Todd Murphy in two of the remaining three games. It deprived Australia of control from the other end as England came back from 2-0 down to end the series at 2-2.
Ever since Shane Warne and Stuart MacGill retired from Tests in 2007 and 2008 respectively, Australia haven’t got a quality leg-spinner who has managed to be a regular in the Test side. “I don’t know whether it’s just the lack of wrist spin bowling...

Manchester, July 16 (Ians) Former Australia captain Ian Chappell slammed England for bringing tearaway quick Mark Wood late in the playing eleven for the ongoing Ashes, saying his belated inclusion highlighted a typical problem in the set-up of failing in making the right selections.
Playing in a Test for the first time since last year’s tour of Pakistan, Wood picked 5-34 from 11.4 overs and 2-66 from 17 overs in both innings of the match at Headingley.
The pacer, who has missed many matches in between during his career due to various injuries, proved to be a crucial point of difference for England in winning the Headingley Test by three wickets.
“England rely heavily on the skill of Stuart Broad and his chokehold on David Warner to spearhead their attack. They belatedly introduced the big-hearted Mark Wood into the series and he proved his worth with a high-speed attack at Headingley. Wood...

New Delhi, May 21 (Ians) Former Australia captain Ian Chappell said India will be badly affected by the absence of injured cricketers Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant while playing in the World Test Championship final against Australia at The Oval from June 7-11.
He further expressed surprise at the unavailability of all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who last played a Test match in 2018. Apart from the trio, Shreyas Iyer and Kl Rahul are unavailable for the one-off finale due to injuries.
“The injuries to Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant will badly affect India, as they would be outright favourites with these two playing. Poised for a breakout 2023, Chappell Roan kicked off her first headlining tour across North America earlier this month and shares the much anticipated new video for her single, ‘Casual’. The video for the early hit, which landed on ‘Best of 2022’ lists in Rolling Stone, Billboard, LA Times, Glamour and more, was directed by Hadley Hillel and puts a cinematic twist on the heroine’s narrative with Chappell falling for the most unexpected love interest.

On February 24, 2023, Universal released “Cocaine Bear,” Elizabeth Banks‘ comedy-horror flick that raked in $22 million its opening weekend. An oddball group of cops, criminals, tourists and teens converge on a Georgia forest where a huge black bear goes on a murderous rampage after unintentionally ingesting cocaine. The film, which currently holds a score of 70% on Rotten Tomatoes, has garnered generally positive reviews.
The critics consensus reads, “Despite Cocaine Bear‘s half-baked plot and uneven acting, the titular fur fiend’s scene-snorting frenzy will give B-movie enthusiasts a contact high.” The ensemble cast (beyond VFX-driven “Cokey” the bear) includes Keri Russell, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Christian Convery, Alden Ehrenreich, Brooklynn Prince, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Margo Martindale and the late Ray Liotta. New Delhi, Feb 26 (Ians) Former Australia captain Ian Chappell believes regular use of the sweep shot is not the only way to survive against spinners on pitches in India. He added that a batter needs to have good footwork and get runs through the gaps to thrive on playing Tests in sub-continent conditions.
“Sweeping regularly is not the answer to playing good spin bowling, and anyone who says so is talking through his hat. The odd player is very good at sweeping and should utilise the shot, but for the majority there are better ways.”
“Any good spin bowler who makes the ball bounce is likely to expose the dangers in sweeping constantly. It should have been obvious in Australia’s build-up what kinds of batting strategies needed to be used in India. New Delhi, Feb 26 (Ians) Former Australia Test captain Ian Chappell said he is not surprised to see Australia struggle in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against India, adding that the current team think-tank have made some “head-scratching” decisions on the tour.
After losing the first Test by an innings and 132 runs in Nagpur inside three days, Australia lost the second match by six wickets in New Delhi, which meant their chances of winning the Test series came to an end as India retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Now 2-0 behind, Australia will face India in the third Test at the Holkar Stadium in Indore, starting from March 1.
“The mess they have got themselves in isn’t surprising, although some of the selections have been head-scratching, to say the least,” Chappell was quoted as saying by ABC.
Chappell further said he could not understand why left-handed batter Travis Head was dropped for the first Test in Nagpur.

New Delhi, Feb 25 (Ians) Former Australia cricketer Greg Chappell stated that fans back home are extremely disappointed over the visitors losing the first two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy inside three days and has urged the side to showcase their usual grit and tenacity in the last two matches.
After losing the first Test by an innings and 132 runs in Nagpur inside three days, Australia lost the second Test to India by six wickets in New Delhi, which meant their chances of winning the Test series came to an end as India retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
“What can Australia do from here? Firstly, pick their best team and then play with the passion, tenacity and grit which is our hallmark. Australian fans know that it is tough in India.”

New Delhi, Feb 25 (Ians) Former Australia cricket captain Greg Chappell slammed the current team think-tank for being 2-0 behind in their ongoing Test tour of India, pointing out that the visitors made blunders by not picking their best team and batters basing their game on only one shot.
Australia can’t win the Test series in India after going 2-0 behind in the four-match series. After losing the first Test by an innings and 132 runs in Nagpur, the visitors lost the second Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test by six wickets in New Delhi. They will now play their third Test in Indore, starting from March 1.
“The Australian think-tank has made two major blunders: they didn’t pick their best team and they based their batting attack on one shot. With Cameron Green, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood injured for the first two Tests, the Australians were hamstrung, but the basic premise...

New Delhi, Feb 4 (Ians) Former Australia cricketer Greg Chappell believes the Pat Cummins-led side will have to put their best foot forward in terms of talent and experience during the upcoming four-match series against India as succeeding in the country will take a lot of pluck, planning, patience and persistence.
Australia and India, currently ranked number one and two respectively in both Icc Men’s Test Team Rankings and the ongoing Icc World Test Championship 2023 cycle, will meet in a highly-anticipated four-match series for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to be held in Nagpur (February 9-13), New Delhi (February 17-21), Dharamshala (March 1-5) and Ahmedabad (March 9-13).
India are the current holder of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, having won the last three series against Australia in 2017, 2018-19 and 2020-21. Australia, on the other hand, are aiming to win a Test series in India after having done so last time in 2004.

New Delhi, Jan 29 (Ians) Former Australia captain Ian Chappell thinks the Indian team will strongly feel Rishabh Pant’s absence from the upcoming four-match series against the Pat Cummins-led side, saying no one can replace the left-handed wicketkeeper-batter’s desire of dominating the bowlers in the longest format of the game.
Pant is currently recovering from multiple injuries after surviving a horrific car accident on December 30. He was initially taken to Saksham Hospital Multispecialty and Trauma Centre, before being admitted to Max Hospital, Dehradun.
On January 4, he was then airlifted to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Andheri West, Mumbai, where he underwent surgery. The nature of his injuries is going to keep him out of cricketing action for a significant period.

New Delhi, Jan 14 (Ians) Legendary Australia cricketer Ian Chappell believes Australia has a chance of a Test series victory over India under the leadership of a “pretty decent” leader in Pat Cummins. Chappell was a member of Bill Lawry’s famous 1969 side which won the Test series in India 3-1.
Australia’s last series triumph over India came in 2004 under the leadership of Adam Gilchrist and since then, they have been unable to replicate that same result in four successive trips to the country.
But with the four-match series, played for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, starting from February 9 in Nagpur, Chappell is optimistic about Australia winning against India in challenging sub-continent conditions though he admitted to being concerned about the visitors’ batting.
“Australia have a chance. Bowling-wise, I think they’ll be Ok. They’ll be light on for a second spinner because I don’t know anything about Todd Murphy.

New Delhi, Jan 1 (Ians) Former Australia captain Ian Chappell feels that South Africa’s bowling attack can get better results in Test cricket if the leadership of the team can be improved.
At the Boxing Day Test in the McG, South Africa were thrashed by an innings and 182 runs by a rampant Australian team, making it the first time since 2005/06 that the Proteas didn’t win a Test series in the country.
It is also South Africa’s second successive Test series loss after 1-2 defeat to England in August-September. They will now play for pride in the third and final Test at Sydney starting from January 4.
“While South Africa’s bowling attack possesses real ability, their wicket-taking capability could be drastically improved. And they are handicapped by their side’s poor batting. A team that is repeatedly provided with low scores and has to regularly be back bowling after...

New Delhi, Dec 13 (Ians) Former Australia captain Ian Chappell said he is not in favour of lifting the lifetime leadership ban imposed on left-handed opener David Warner, saying that he is now too old for the captaincy role of the national side.
“?If Cricket Australia were to lift the ban on Warner, what’s that going to do? I mean, you’re not going to appoint Warner captain of any Australian team, are you? He’s too old.”
“And he’s not going to be given the captaincy because the captain has got to be young enough to be able to lead by example, and those days are gone for David,” Chappell was quoted as saying by Wide World of Sports.
Last week, Warner had withdrawn his application for removing the lifetime leadership ban, saying that the independent review panel wanted to make it “a public lynching.”

New Delhi, Dec 4 (Ians) Former Australia skipper Ian Chappell believes Test cricket is better off having countries with strong infrastructure for first-class cricket and also, have a culture for playing the format, which is lacking in nations like Afghanistan and Ireland.
“Test cricket is a tough but rewarding game and players deserve the opportunity to participate in the format if that is their choice. However, Tests are also steeped in culture and that requires the countries involved to have a strong first-class infrastructure.”
“Not many teams have or can afford to build such infrastructure, as it costs money rather than bringing a return on investment. T20 leagues, which produce a healthy return, are much more acceptable to administrators.”
“Consequently, it makes no sense to reward Afghanistan and Ireland, two recent recipients of Test status, neither of whom have the grounds or the infrastructure to reasonably expect that status. Sadly, Test...

New Delhi, Dec 4 (Ians) With T20 franchise leagues rising all over the world and eating into an already hectic cricketing schedule, former Australia skipper Ian Chappell feels that the entire cricketing structure, especially the schedule, urgently needs a meticulous but optimistic inquest.
“The whole cricket structure, especially the schedule, is in need of a thorough but positive inquisition with the game’s future in view. There is also the glaring matter of the lack of partnership between players and administrators.”
“Surely it shouldn’t be – as it is currently – a matter of the administrators deciding the programme without any input from international players,” wrote Chappell in his column for ESPNCricinfo on Sunday.
Chappell thinks that proliferation of T20 leagues will cause a huge breakdown of future scheduling in the cricketing world. In 2023, two new T20 leagues in UAE’s ILT20 and South Africa’s SA20 will be running their inaugural editions from January,...

Melbourne, Sep 27 (Ians) Australia wicket-keeper and middle-order batter Matthew Wade could be their choice for skipper for the Icc T20 World Cup at home next month, should regular skipper Aaron Finch suffer an injury or his string of poor scores continues, said a report in Sydney Morning Herald on Tuesday.
Wade, who is currently not in Cricket Australia’s contracted list, was first tipped to lead the Kangaroos when Finch missed a T20 game against India at the Sydney Cricket Ground in 2020, but his reported disciplinary record went against him at that time, despite him being a “seasoned state captain” and “one of the most critical members of the side”.
Wade’s name has cropped up at a time when another seasoned cricketer, David Warner is being talked about as someone who can fill up the captaincy slot in the Australian One-day International side left vacant by Finch’s recent retirement.

London, Sep 27 (Ians) Former Australia skipper Ian Chappell has said including both “ageing” pace bowling stalwarts, James Anders and Stuart Broad for England’s away Test tours, would be a mistake, given that they are best suited for home conditions.
The pace bowling duo, following their unimpressive performances — or the lack of opportunities they got on the Ashes tour late last year and early this year under Joe Root — were dropped from the England Test side that toured the West Indies following the 0-4 Ashes debacle.
But with a new setup in place in England cricket, with coach Brendon Mccullum and skipper Ben Stokes at the helm, the two ageing warhorses — who were staring at an uncertain future following the Ashes series — were back in favour.

There is a promising idea behind “See How They Run,” a whodunit set in London’s West End in 1953 against the backdrop of Agatha Christie’s long-running stage hit “The Mousetrap,” but it proves far too complicated to execute for director Tom George and writer Mark Chappell, who resort to clumsy flashbacks and pointless split-screen sequences without ever finding the right tone for their movie.
“See How They Run” starts out with narration by crass movie director Leo Köpernick (Adrien Brody), who has been hired to direct a film of “The Mousetrap” after the play has closed out its run. Köpernick gets into a fight at a party with the cast of the play and winds up murdered backstage at the theater; his corpse is propped up on a couch on stage, and the murderer has pulled out his tongue.

Dubai, Sep 14 (Ians) Star India batter Virat Kohli has risen 14 spots to 15th overall on the Icc T20I batter rankings due to his efforts in the recently-concluded Asia Cup in the UAE. Kohli scored his first international century in almost three years — against Afghanistan — and scored 276 runs in the continental showpiece event.
Kohli has some way to go before he is back into contention for the top ranking for T20I batters, but he is at least moving in the right direction now after returning to form during the Asia Cup.
The champion right-hander was the big mover near the top of the T20I batter rankings, with India team-mate Kl Rahul (up seven places to 23rd) and Sri Lanka star Bhanuka Rajapaksa (up 34 spots to 34th) also making good ground on those players near the top.

Everyone’s a suspect in a good murder mystery, but that doesn’t always mean more is more. While a large ensemble leaves more room for speculation, the delight of such a grandiose setup lies in having a wide array of interesting characters. Hoping to capitalize on the runaway success of 2019’s “Knives Out,” Searchlight has made its own star-studded whodunit, “See How They Run.” Taking a literal page from Agatha Christie, the movie sets its intrigue during a 1952 West End run of “The Mousetrap” as movie producers circle the hit play.
With a flashy period aesthetic that can only be described as Wes Anderson-lite and a played-out insider Hollywood plot, “See How They Run” packs a lot of characters into a thin story that leaves little room for the considerable talent to stand out.
As our smooth-talking narrator and primary murder victim, hot-shot American movie director Leo Köpernick (Adrien Brody) sets expectations low.

Agatha Christie may have been the best and worst thing to happen to whodunits. Her works were the blueprint for the crime genre — so much so that her name has become synonymous with that particular brand of detective fiction. But we've come to the point as readers, and audiences, that we know what to expect in an Agatha Christie-style murder mystery: The murder is committed, the suspects are gathered, and the eccentric detective slowly pieces together the clues. So in the age of the post-"Knives Out," post-post Agatha Christie era, how does one put a fresh twist on the whodunit? Well, by killing Agatha Christie.
No, that's not exactly what happens in "See How They Run," the twisty, breezy caper directed by Tom George and written by Mark Chappell. But the latest whodunit knows exactly how much it owes to the celebrated author, and as such, props Agatha Christie...

Agatha Christie, master of deduction, was wrong only once. When her play “The Mousetrap” opened in London in 1952, she reckoned it would last eight months. 70 years later, the unkillable production lives on — even Covid only clipped it for 14 months — and yet, the actual plot of the longest-running show in theater history makes most people draw a blank. This is due to two clauses in Christie’s contract: First, every night, the actors order the audience to keep the story secret, and second, every movie producer who wants to turn the play into a film is told they must wait until the end of its run, which at this point may be never.
Yet, debut director Tom George (of the BBC sitcom “This Country”) and screenwriter Mark Chappell have cleverly cracked the code. “See How They Run,” a snappy comedy that struts in with an eyebrow coyly arched, stages its own...

Nursery rhymes and Beatles lyrics aside, the generic title of See How They Run recalls those bougie farces spiced with naughty innuendo that were a fixture on London stages in the 1980s. But this starry whodunit is more directly tied to another West End staple, Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap. The film is set in 1953, when that murder mystery was just 100 performances into its ongoing seven-decade run, interrupted only during the Covid shutdown.
Its chief merit is the rare opportunity it provides Saoirse Ronan to showcase her skills with bubbly comedy, making her the standout in a ridiculously overqualified ensemble. But despite the promise of that title, this wheezing romp slows to a limp.

London, August 14 (Ian) Australian cricket great Ian Chappell has officially called time on his more than four-decade-long commentating career, said a report in Daily Mail on Sunday quoting Sydney Morning Herald.
The veteran of 75 Test matches, who ended his illustrious career with more than 5,000 runs in the longest format, reportedly said his decision to leave the broadcasting box was similar to his career retirement call.
The cricketing great began his tenure inside the media box soon after retiring from international cricket, where he led Australia in 30 Tests.
“I remember the day when I knew I’d had enough of playing cricket,” the 78-year-old, who signed in 1980 with Channel 9 and has worked with the ABC, told the Sydney Morning Herald. “I looked at the clock and it was five past 11 on a day of play and I thought, ‘S***, if you’re clock-watching at that time, I have to go,...

Sydney, Aug 13 (Ians) Though Chris Lynn has registered himself as a marquee player in the UAE’s ILT20, he will still need a No-objection Certificate (Noc) from Cricket Australia, a move for which many are doubtful considering that the country has their Big Bash League (Bbl) running at the same time. Lynn, one of the major stars of the Bbl, had to leave Brisbane Heat ahead of the next edition of the tournament.
Now, former Australia captain Ian Chappell has said that if he was in Lynn’s place and hadn’t got the Noc to play in ILT20 in the UAE, he would have taken Cricket Australia (CA) to court. Currently, Lynn neither has a contract with Cricket Australia nor with his state side Queensland.
“To me, you then go back to the World Series Cricket days, where they took the board to court over restraint of trade. Is it a restraint of trade?...
