Two TV events are synonymous with Thanksgiving: the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and The National Dog Show. You hear those words and can almost smell the sweet, savory aroma of a Thanksgiving meal being prepared. The 2022 National Dog Show will take place from 12-2 p.m. in all timezones on Thursday, November 24 on NBC. TV personality, author, and Broadway star John O’Hurley returns as host with expert analyst and American Kennel Club-licensed judge David Frei. NBC correspondent and sports broadcasting Hall of Famer Mary Carillo will give reports from backstage and on the competition floor. This year, three new American Kennel Club-sanctioned breeds will be introduced to viewers — Russian Toy (toy group), the Bracco Italiano (sporting group), and the Mudi (herding group) — making the total breeds and varieties eligible for competition 212. In 2021, Claire the Scottish Deerhound became the first dog in the show’s 20-year history to have back-to-back wins.

While your dog spends Thanksgiving hunting for turkey scraps under the table, these prized pooches are putting them — and many of us humans, frankly — to shame with their poise, discipline and overall elegance.
It’s honestly a shame when you realize that these dogs don’t have the capacity to understand what they’re actually accomplishing.

After having to scale down the number of canine participants and limit its audience to cardboard cutouts last year, “The National Dog Show” is back in full force — even going so far as to introduce a new breed this, as well as an extended secondary show. And the timing couldn’t better as the holiday event marks its 20th year.

Hey, "Days Of Our Lives" fans. We are back at you with this brand new article. Unfortunately, this article contains some bad news. As most of you know, the holiday season is upon us. To be specific, the Thanksgiving holiday is upon us. In fact, it lands on Thursday, November 28, 2019, and NBC has elected not to air a new episode of "Days Of Our Lives" on Thanksgiving day. It gets worse though. NBC also decided to go ahead and throw the Friday after Thanksgiving into the mix. So, that means "Days Of Our Lives" will officially be Mia (Missing In Action) on both this Thursday November 28, 2019 and Friday, November 29, 2019. But don't worry, Days Of Our Lives will be back in action on Monday, December 2, 2019 in its same 12 pm central time slot on NBC of course. So, be sure to mark down that very important date on your TV show calendars.

Welcome to the 138th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show at none other than the splashiest venue, Madison Square Garden. What an amazing night of shiny pups, showy handlers, and some stellar announcing. I should state upfront that my only knowledge of dog shows comes from Best In Show, the Christopher Guest mock-umentary that now seems like much less of a mocku and more of a docu.
For some background, America’s Dog Show extended its standing as the second-longest continuously held sporting event in this country, a streak that began in 1877. This year’s event drew an entry of 2,845 dogs.

The Westminster Kennel Club’s 2014 Dog Show is being held this week, with TV coverage again being provided by CNBC (Opening Night, Feb. 10, live at 8pm Et) and USA Network (Closing Night, Feb. 11, live at 8pm Et). I was surprised to learn from Westminster Kennel Club Director of Communications, and longtime Wkc Dog Show TV co-host, David Frei (pictured) during our phone interview last week that he did not get his first dog until he was in college. Given how passionately Frei has covered Westminster’s famed dog shows over the past 25 years (he’s been doing it since … Continue reading →

In between its broadcast of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and viewers' own belt-straining dinners on Thursday, Nov. 28, NBC again offers one of the newest of Turkey Day traditions, a two-hour presentation of the National Dog Show, taped Nov. 16-17 just outside Philadelphia.
Sponsored by the Kennel Club of Philadelphia, the show offers a first look for many at the new breeds added to the American Kennel Club roster of purebreds, which will compete in early 2014 at the Westminster Kennel Club show in New York.
Again offering commentary are actor/singer/musician John O'Hurley and canine expert David Frei, who points out one great advantage of purebreds, which were developed to breed true to type, generation after generation.
"They are all 4-pound balls of fluff at one point in time," says Frei to Zap2it, "but you'd better think about what they're going to be like as an adult, because...

New York (Reuters) - Lonely, bored dogs left at home all day while their owners are at work could soon be getting some digital company - a TV channel with programming just for pooches.
Dogtv, a 24/7 channel designed specifically for man's best friend, will air nationally next month on the U.S. satellite operator DirecTV, with hopes of attracting dogs in some of the 46 million U.S. households that have at least one.
"It is the first and only television channel that is dedicated to our four-legged friends and not to their parents," Gilad Neumann, the chief executive of the Tel Aviv-based company, said in an interview.
The channel won't be showing the canine equivalent of "Modern Family," "Mad Men" or "Downton Abbey" but will feature programs with music, visuals, animation and the occasional human that are designed to relax, stimulate and ease the loneliness of home-alone pets.

The 137th annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show kicks off Monday, Feb. 11 in New York City. By the end of two days of judging thousands of dogs, a new Best in Show will be crowned. And David Frei (pictured at right with Uno the beagle) will be on hand to host, like he has been for the past 22 years.
"The first year I did the dog show on television was 1990 and we had 132 breeds and varieties. And now we have 187. That's exciting," Frei tells Zap2it.
Watching all those lovable pooches on television, it's easy to see why Frei keeps hosting the annual dog show. He says it's easy to keep doing it because he's such a dog lover.
"I love my dogs, I love the sport. That's probably the driving reason [I keep doing it]," says Frei. "I like representing our sport to the outside world, so to speak. We have so many great stories to tell.

Along with parades and football, one of Thanksgiving Day's most successful TV franchises is "The National Dog Show," airing Thursday (Nov. 22) right after the "Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade" on NBC.
As he does every year, John O'Hurley (standing, above) joins canine expert David Frei (seated) and correspondent Mary Carillo to follow the competition at the annual event, taped earlier in November in Philadelphia.
This year, two new breeds join the field of 175 American Kennel Club-sanctioned breeds.
"There's the Russell terrier," says O'Hurley, "which is adorable. it's kind of a rounder version of the Parson Russell terrier. it's a cute dog."
Both the Parson Russell and Russell terriers (at right) are Akc-sanctioned variations of the popular Jack Russell terrier, which can come with a smooth or wiry coat, and long or short legs. Both take their name from British dog fancier the Rev. John "Jack" Russell (1795-1883), aka "The Sporting Parson.

New York — A bobbing little pompom put on a peak performance at the Westminster Kennel Club.
Malachy the Pekingese wobbled off with best in show Tuesday night, becoming America's top dog much to the delight of an adoring crowd that called his name.
"He saved all his energy for the ring today," handler David Fitzpatrick said.
The 4-year-old Peke won his 115th overall best in show title. He beat out a Dalmatian, German shepherd, Doberman pinscher, Irish setter, a Kerry blue terrier and wire-haired dachshund at Madison Square Garden.
Fitzpatrick gave his 11-pound champ a bit of help – he carried him a short way onto the green carpet for the final lineup, shortening the long walk the ring. Malachy's pink tongue popped out from his black face, his eyes sparkling like black diamonds as he soaked in the cheers.
"No other dog moves like this," Fitzpatrick said. It's true, as...

New York (AP) — Standing at attention, or "stacked," as they say in the dog show world, Eira is the picture of wire fox terrier perfection.
A dense, white coat falls off her jaws. She's got alert eyes, a very still tail and plenty of ribbons to prove her pedigree.
And she's primed for America's most prestigious pooch parade, the 136th Westminster Kennel Club event, starting Monday at Madison Square Garden.
Handler Gabriel Rangel hopes so, anyway.
"Oh, she can misbehave," he said last weekend. "She likes to run into my knee, having fun."
She did that and more at Westminster last February — fine behavior when she's at home, playing on the California beaches, but not exactly what the judges want to see when picking a champion.
"It was a bit overwhelming for her. A lot of people around, a lot of things happening," Rangel said. "She'll be more used to it this time.

New York -- Pet lovers won't have to look away anymore when those heart-wrenching TV ads appear during the Westminster dog show – the ones with the pitiful little faces peering out from behind those rusted bars of a cage and wondering "how I ended up in here."
Happy dogs will rule the air waves this year, thanks to a new sponsor for America's most prestigious dog competition and a decision to air ads that shift the focus away from sad-eyed animals in need of adoption.
"The feedback we got from our primary audience was that they were seeing commercials that made them want to turn the channel," Westminster spokesman and longtime TV host David Frei said Thursday.

Meet the new top dog. A wire fox terrier walked off with the Best in Show title at this year's National Dog Show, which aired Thursday. Steele Your Heart, began her winning day by taking top honors in the terrier group. Later, she outshined the English springer spaniel, the affenpinscher, the Australian shepherd, the Dalmatian, the Bernese mountain dog and the whippet to be crowned Best in Show. Photos:...

On Thanksgiving Day -- Thursday, Nov. 25 -- NBC airs the annual "National Dog Show Presented by Purina," with expert commentator David Frei and host John O'Hurley.
The American Kennel Club has recognized six new breeds that will be competing this year -- the bluetick coonhound, the redbone coonhound, the Boykin spaniel, the Cane Corso, the Icelandic sheepdog and the Leonberger -- but O'Hurley will be appearing with one less dog in his life.
"We had some sad news this year," he tells Zap2it. "Skoshi, our Maltese, finally passed away at the age of 20 years and four months. I guess the oldest dog in the world was 21, but he was getting up there. We had to, but it was kind of a sad day."
O'Hurley's household does still include a Havenese and a King Charles spaniel.
