Inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame, 1951
Played (mostly as first baseman) for the American League's Philadelphia
Athletics (1925-1935) and Boston Red Sox (1936-1942[part]), and the
National League's Chicago Cubs (1942[part] & 1944-1945).
When he retired following the 1945 season, his 534 home runs ranked second on the all-time home run list, behind only Babe Ruth's 714. At the beginning of the 2004 season, he ranked #12. By the start of the 2018 season, he fell to #19.
Made major league debut on 1 May 1925.
Inducted into the Eastern Shore Baseball Hall of Fame in 1994.
