London, March 24 (Ians) English white-ball specialist Tom Abell and Australian short-format expert Tim David emerged as the top picks in the draft for the 2023 edition of The Hundred, England’s domestic limited-balls cricket league.
In the draft held on Thursday night, over 30 male players were picked across eight teams with Welsh Fire roping in Abell while David returned to Southern Brave via their Right-To-Match (Rtm) card.
With new coach Michael Hussey taking charge of affairs after a winless 2022 season, Welsh Fire strengthened their squad significantly by securing the services of Pakistan’s pace duo Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf, as well as England all-rounder David Willey.
Domestic players were much in demand as top overseas stars like Pakistan skipper Babar Azam, West Indies’ Ipl legend Kieron Pollard and New Zealand’s Trent Boult went unsold, in some cases due to concerns over their availability for the full season.

Exclusive: Chilean prison drama The Prince has been effectively banned from Amazon Prime UK after distributor Peccadillo Pictures was informed the movie contained “offensive content” that clashed with the streamer’s guidelines.
The film is an unflinching look at life in a men’s prison set amidst the political upheaval of Chile in the 1970s. It contains explicit and dark content but has been widely praised for its uncompromising handling of its subject matter, including winning the Queer Lion Award at Venice Film Festival last year.
Many titles are self-uploaded to Amazon by distributors for Tvod releases, with the web giant taking a share of money earned. All releases are however subject to Amazon’s Content Policy Guidelines, which contain rules against “sexually explicit content” as well as “violent or graphic content.”
Surprisingly, the DVD of the film, which is the same version, is still available to purchase via Amazon.

“We’ve been working with and nurturing relationships with many fantastic filmmakers over the years who are keen to tell often very real Lgbt stories to our audiences both in the UK and internationally.
“Never has the time been better to create a concerted drive focussed on the financing for films of this genre. Authentic has a great track record of helping structure film financing arrangements over the years, so this seems the perfect partnership.”

Exclusive: UK distributor lands 52 Tuesdays and Praia Do Futuro.
UK distributor Peccadillo Pictures has landed rights to Sophie Hyde’s Sundance and Berlin winner 52 Tuesdays from Visit Films, in the first deal struck between the two companies.
The Australian drama, which won a directing award at Sundance and a Crystal Bear in Berlin, follows a sixteen-year-old’s path to independence after her mother reveals that she would like to under-go gender transition.
Peccadillo chairman Tom Abell stated: “We’re excited to be working on such a remarkable debut feature film from a great talent after working with Sophie on her short film My Last Ten Hours With You.”
The Lgbt specialists have also completed on Karim Ainouz’s Berlin title Praia do Futuro from Match Factory.
The Berlin competition entry charts the relationship between a German and Brazilian brought together by tragedy.
Peccadillo will release the duo later in the year.
