Director Renny Harlin's "Cliffhanger" is a quintessential '90s action movie. The right movie at the right time, it is one of the few true breakout action flicks starring Sylvester Stallone that's not connected to "Rocky," "Rambo," or "The Expendables." It's a lean, fun, crowd-pleasing thriller that features John Lithgow in a great villain performance (a villain role that almost went to David Bowie) and remains a product of its time in the best of ways. It also might not have happened at all had "Die Hard" not become a huge success a handful of years earlier.
In a 2023 20th anniversary retrospective in The Telegraph, it's explained that "Cliffhanger" started with co-producer Gene Hines, who saw a TV show about mountain climbers in the mid-'80s. "That got him interested in the world of climbing," said co-producer Jim Zatolokin. "It's a dynamic and unique world with a lot of characters.

When “Curb Your Enthusiasm” began its run on HBO all the way back in 2000, creator/star Larry David had a very specific rule: He wouldn’t let the show’s cast read the episodic outlines.
“The first three seasons I did not even see an outline,” “Curb” star Cheryl Hines tells Variety‘s Awards Circuit Podcast. “I wasn’t allowed. And then yeah, and so that was the joke is when I got to hair and makeup. I’d say, ‘can anybody tell me what this show is about?’ And they’d say no. And then I finally talked Larry into letting me read an outline. I did promise Larry that I will never think ahead about what I’m going to say.”
David wanted them to think on their toes as they improvised the dialogue in scenes — and that became an early hallmark of why the show felt so unique.

Less than two weeks after Curb Your Enthusiasm aired its final episode, the cast reunited for a special event at PaleyFest on Thursday, where Larry David spoke publicly about the series finale for the first time.
In a panel conversation moderated by Judd Apatow at Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre, David told the crowd that “there was a week of basking” in the glow of the finale, which ended with an appearance by Jerry Seinfeld and a play on the Seinfeld ending.
“Honestly I was kind of blown away at the response to the finale, yeah,” David continued. “It exceeded my wildest expectations; of course, I never have expectations for anything.” Apatow asked if he had read reviews of the ending, and the star teased, “Only if they’re good, yes.”

Larry David marked the last day of shooting on Curb Your Enthusiasm in the most Larry David way possible — by awkwardly not responding as his coworkers lavished him with praise and quietly slinking away amidst an outpouring of emotion.

Emily Cheever’s career was just getting started.
The 36-year-old began her TV writing career in 2020 as a writers’ production assistant and script coordinator for Legends of Tomorrow before getting hired as a staff writer for ABC’s The Company You Keep. After the drama that marked Milo Ventimiglia’s follow-up to This Is Us was canceled following a single season shortly after the Writers Guild of America strike began last May, Cheever had no job to return to when it ended in September. Like scores of other writers of all levels and backgrounds, she doesn’t know when or where her next paycheck will come from.
“People are scared. I’m trying to go back to bartending,” she says. “A lot of people are wondering what other jobs they can do. I’m close with my old showrunners, and they’re supportive of me, but they’re looking for jobs.

Executives at YouTube say they are revamping the video streamer’s smart TV apps with the goal of offering a more “lean in” experience for users.
In a blog post published in March, YouTube Interactive Designer Joe Hines and Product Manager Aishwarya Agarwal said the goal of refreshing the YouTube app for TV sets was to make the service more engaging to streamers.
In recent years, YouTube has seen more people use their video app on TV sets compared to computers, tablets and phones, with the app becoming one of the more-dominant on platforms like Android TV (Google TV), Roku and Amazon’s Fire TV.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has selected Silicon Valley attorney turned philanthropist Nicole Shanahan as his running mate in an early-announcement move as the independent presidential hopeful seeks to get his name on ballots in all 50 states for his White House bid.
Kennedy, son of the former U.S. attorney general and senator from New York who was assassinated in 1968, announced that Shanahan would join his campaign at a rally in Oakland on Tuesday. The announcement of a running mate decision this early is a strategic move that looks to assuage some of the concerns around his ballot access in half of the country.
“Nicole has put her interest aside and made the momentous and very, very difficult decision to embark with me on this extraordinary crusade to win back our country,” Kennedy said while introducing Shanahan as his running mate. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. continued campaign fundraising in Los Angeles Wednesday night with a stand-up comedy event hosted by the independent presidential candidate’s wife and actress Cheryl Hines.
The A Night of Laughter With Rfk Jr. & Friends evening at the Million Dollar Theater included performances by Jeremy Piven, Bobby Lee, Rob Schneider, Tre Stewart, Mike Binder, Erica Rhodes, Dustin Ybarra and radio host and podcaster Adam Carolla.
The benefit event, with an after party for $1000 Silver and $1500 Gold contributors, was part of a string of comedy shows planned for across the U.S. as the Rfk Jr. campaign looks to continue raising campaign funds. The first-time presidential candidate is polling in the mid- to high single digits in key U.S. states, according to RealClearPolitics.
That’s enough to potentially pull votes away from U.S. president Joe Biden and former president Donald Trump, both of whom are currently expected to be the U.

Curb Your Enthusiasm has been part of the comedy zeitgeist since it first aired in 2000. The HBO sitcom never quite followed routine season premieres. But fans always welcomed the return of Larry David to their screens. This was the case once more on January 30, 2024, as the cast gathered with stars and producers to celebrate the 12th and final Curb Your Enthusiasm premiere.

Larry David’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm” is coming to an end after almost a quarter of a century.
“It’s time,” the famously curmudgeon funny man told me Tuesday at the Season 12 premiere at the DGA in Los Angeles. “Twelve seasons – that’s a lot for a television show – over 24 years. It was time.”
However, David has claimed he was done with the HBO series before, only to return again. “Yeah, I said it before,” David admits. “But I wasn’t 76 when I said it.”
David and his cast, including Cheryl Hines, Jeff Garlin, Susie Essman, J.B. Smoove, Keyla Monterroso Mejia, Ted Danson and Vince Vaughn, reunited for the premiere, which included the screening of Episode 1 and Episode 7 of Season 12, and a party at Sunset Tower Hotel.

When the stars of Curb Your Enthusiasm gathered to celebrate the show’s 12th and final season in Los Angeles on Tuesday, a question remained in the air: Is this really the end?
The HBO comedy has been on the air for 24 years — including a six-year hiatus between 2011 and 2017 — and it’s been unclear if the show would return several times throughout its history. As co-star and executive producer Jeff Garlin pointed out at the premiere event, “every year there was a chance we were not going to come back, every year.” However, he added that, in the past, creator and star Larry David “has never said the words ‘This is the last season;’ he said that this year, and when you watch the season, it’ll all make sense.”

Curb Your Enthusiasm star Cheryl Hines has been married to Robert F. Kennedy Jr. since 2014. She’s on her second marriage, while Kennedy is already on his third.

Last October, White House hopeful Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced a decision to switch parties in his presidential bid by exiting the Democratic party and running as a third-party Independent. The move was quickly denounced by members of his own family, including Oscar-nominated documentarian Rory Kennedy, who joined her siblings in posting a family statement.
“The decision of our brother Bobby to run as a third party candidate against Joe Biden is dangerous to our country. Bobby might share the same name as our father, but he does not share the same values, vision or judgment. Today’s announcement is deeply saddening for us. We denounce his candidacy and believe it to be perilous for our country,” read the Instagram post signed by Rory Kennedy, Kerry Kennedy, Joseph P. HBO‘s long-running comedy Curb Your Enthusiasm is set to air its 12th and final season this year, and one of the stars, Cheryl Hines, has been opening up about her time on the show and her relationship with star and creator Larry David. Hines played the fictional Larry’s wife, Cheryl David, for the first five seasons of the show before they separated in Season 6 after she grew tired of his constant neuroses and public outbursts. Despite breaking up, Hines has remained an on-screen character, later dating Larry’s rival, Ted Danson. As far as Hines is concerned, she would continue doing the show forever, and she is still holding out hope that David will change his mind about ending the beloved sitcom. “Going into production, we were told most likely it will be the last season,” she shared in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “But since season one,...

It’s Christmas at the Kennedys’, and a happy sort of chaos has upended the family home, nestled in the affluent L.A. enclave of Mandeville Canyon.
Conor, 29, the heartthrob son once romantically linked to Taylor Swift, has emerged from the backyard sauna and is wandering around the house in a towel. His striking sister, Kyra, 28 — a fashionista and “Page Six”regular back in her party days — is fussing over their father, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., 69, in preparation for today’s photo shoot.
Amid this flurry of activity, affecting an air of regal calm as best as she can, stands Cheryl Hines. Hines, 58, has been Kennedy’s wife since 2014 — a second marriage for her and a third for him. Kennedy’s second wife, Mary Richardson Kennedy, mother to Conor, Kyra and two other sons — Finn, 26, and Aiden, 22 — died by suicide in 2012. Maurice Hines, the Broadway dancer, choreographer and actor who famously showcased his skills alongside his late younger brother, Gregory Hines, in a Nicholas Brothers-like act featured in Francis Ford Coppola’s The Cotton Club, has died. He was 80.
Hines died Friday of natural causes at the Actors Fund Home in Englewood, New Jersey, his cousin and rep, Richard Nurse, told The Hollywood Reporter. He lived there for a couple of years.
The elegant, Harlem-born Hines received a Tony Award nomination in 1986 for best actor in a musical for Uptown … It’s Hot and starred again on Broadway in 2006’s Hot Feet. He conceived, directed and choreographed both productions.

After 12 seasons and a staggering 24 years on the air, Larry David’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm” will finally bid farewell. What began as a mock, behind-the-scenes look at a fictional David putting together a new comedy special blossomed into one of the most enduring and outrageous series of all time. Although neither David nor his character would want to be sentimental, to commemorate the announcement of its imminent series finale, revisit the dozens of awards nominations it received for its first 11 seasons.
Though he would likely never describe himself as an actor, David has a long list of nominations for his acclaimed, exaggerated performance as himself. The lovable curmudgeon earned six Emmy bids for Comedy Actor in 2003, 2004, 2006, 2010, 2012 and 2018. He also racked up three Golden Globes noms in 2003, 2005 and 2006 and three SAG bids in 2006, 2010 and 2018, which demonstrates how different awards bodies have been receptive to his hilarious portrayal of his so-called “social...

Cheryl Hines made her first big public campaign appearance for husband Robert F. Kennedy Jr. today. The Curb Your Enthusiasm actress introduced the Kennedy scion as he announced his bid as an Independent candidate for the presidency of the United States in Philadelphia.
Hines gave a fairly standard spousal introduction that cast her husband as an independent-minded crusader for the everyman who can bring Americans of different stripes together.
“One day you’re going to look back on this day and say, ‘I was there when something really special happened,'” she promised attendees optimistically.

White House hopeful Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced on Monday a decision to switch parties in his presidential bid by exiting the Democratic party and running as a third party Independent. The move — revealed during a rally held outside the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia that featured remarks by his actress wife Cheryl Hines of Curb Your Enthusiasm fame — was quickly denounced by members of his own family.
“The decision of our brother Bobby to run as a third party candidate against Joe Biden is dangerous to our country. Bobby might share the same name as our father, but he does not share the same values, vision or judgment. Today’s announcement is deeply saddening for us. We denounce his candidacy and believe it to be perilous for our country,” reads a post shared on Instagram by his sister, Oscar nominated documentarian Rory Kennedy.

With the success of long-format cult-exposé documentaries such as Hulu’s “Stolen Youth,” HBO’s “The Vow” and Netflix’s “Wild Wild Country,” it’s not surprising that both Amazon and Netflix greenlit competing docuseries about Twin Flames Universe – an alleged online love cult run by YouTube influencers Jeff and Shaleia Divine.
Amazon’s “Desperately Seeking Soulmate: Escaping Twin Flames Universe” is being released on Oct. 6, a month before Netflix’s “Escaping Twin Flames.”
“Desperately Seeking Soulmate” is based on journalist Alice Hines’ 2020 Vanity Fair article about the “always online, all-consuming world of Twin Flames Universe.” The article and subsequent docuseries, which Hines leads, takes a deep dive into the alleged online love cult, which is still active. Created by Jeff and Shaleia, Twin Flames Universe sells online classes that guarantee to match each member with their “soulmate.” The three-part Amazon docuseries examines how Jeff and Shaleia met and formed...
