Jodie Comer is heading toward disturbing events after signing on to her latest film project with Kenneth Branagh, The Last Disturbance of Madeline Hynde. Branagh wrote and will direct the new film. Plot details are scarce, but Deadline’s exclusive report says The Last Disturbance of Madeline Hynde is a contemporary psychological thriller, with production kicking off in August in the UK.
Belfast producers Tamar Thomas, Laura Berwick, Becca Kovacik, Matthew Jenkins, Maximum Effort’s Ashley Fox, and Johnny Pariseau will join Branagh for the new film.
As Deadline points out, Comer’s signing onto the project is a significant boon for Branagh’s latest yarn. She’s an extraordinarily busy actress, so something about Branagh’s project must have caught her attention. After wrapping Killing Eve, Comer joined the cast of the Jeff Nichols crime drama The Bikeriders. Comer plays Kathy in the upcoming film, which also stars Austin Butler,...

Universal Pictures has unveiled a new trailer for the upcoming feature film, ‘The Bikeriders.’ The feature was written and directed by Jeff Nichols. We loved the film, and gave it a glowing review.
This gripping drama film tells the story of a fictional 1960s Midwestern motorcycle club and their journey through the eyes of its members.
Drawing inspiration from Danny Lyon’s renowned photography book, ‘The Bikeriders’, the movie immerses you in the gritty, grease-covered world of ’60s motorcycle riders. Kathy, a strong member of the Vandals, is married to the wild and reckless Benny, a fellow bike rider. Over a decade, Kathy recounts the club’s evolution from a local group of outcasts united by their love for bikes and good times, to a more dangerous gang. As tensions rise and the club’s future becomes uncertain, Kathy, Benny, and Johnny (the steady leader of the club) must make...

One week ago was the second anniversary of the end of Killing Eve after four seasons. But as great as the show was, with no small amount of fascinating murderous dynamics between the leads, many of us were incredibly disappointed by the finale.
After all, not only did the writers utilize the generally despised 'bury your gays' trope by ruining one of the most vibrant, albeit insane queer couples on TV, but they also killed off one of the best characters ever created, the psychopathic but lovable assassin Villanelle.
Villanelle is a great character in her own right, thanks to the writing prowess of Luke Jennings, but she wouldn't be as well known and loved if it weren't for the performance of the great Jodie Comer on the show. The actress has come a long way from British soap operas to one of the best projects in television history, from...

Even though it’s only the start of April, it’s already been one hell of a year for Austin Butler. The Elvis actor started 2024 by taking to the skies in Apple TV+’s wartime drama Masters Of The Air, before blowing everyone away in Dune: Part Two with his transformative take on the fearsome Feyd-Rautha. His stellar run is set to continue later in the year with The Bikeriders – the long-awaited motorcycle club drama from acclaimed filmmaker Jeff Nichols, based on photojournalist Danny Lyon’s 1968 tome documenting biker gang the Outlaws. It’s a film set to send Butler into Easy Rider mode.
As Nichols tells Empire, he was the perfect pick to portray the enigmatic Benny. “The minute I was shaking his hand, I just was like, ‘Wow, this is a good-looking guy,’” the director says of his first meeting with the star. “But he’s so disarming...

After seven long years following the one-two, varied punch of Midnight Special and Loving, director Jeff Nichols is finally back. The Bikeriders––bringing together the stellar cast of Tom Hardy, Austin Butler, Jodie Comer, Michael Shannon, Boyd Holbrook, Norman Reedus, and Mike Faist––is set in the 1960s and follows a decade in the lives of a motorcycle club. Following its Telluride premiere, the film was dropped by 20th Century Studios who sold it off Focus Features, who moved it to a prime summer release date. As Butler’s latest performance hits theaters this weekend, a new trailer has now arrived.
Caleb Hammond said in his Telluride review, “Using photographer Danny Lyon’s iconic The Bikeriders’ imagery as a jumping-off point, Jeff Nichols’ latest feature imagines a fictionalized Chicago motorcycle club, the Vandals. Motorcycle club culture might be a distinctly American phenomenon, but Nichols casts two Brits in the lead,...

Austin Butler is going from blades to bikes as he goes from Dune: Part Two to the upcoming period drama, The Bikeriders. Butler revealed that his immediate start on The Bikeriders meant that he couldn’t shave his hair for Dune 2 as time was not allotted to have his hair grow back, so he’s actually wearing a prosthetic bald cap. He got to keep his blonde locks and Focus Features has now released the new trailer for The Bikeriders, which Butler stars in with Tom Hardy.
If you recall, The Bikeriders was originally set for a fall 2023 release via Disney’s Searchlight. The studio ended up selling the film (in an unusual move) to Focus, who decided to set it up as summer counter programming. This might have been a smart move as Butler is sure to come off Dune: Part Two an even bigger star than he was a few months ago.

Austin Butler and Jodie Comer are ready to drive off into the sunset together — that is, unless Butler’s biker gang boss, played by Tom Hardy, gets in the way first.
The core trio behind Jeff Nichols’ “The Bikeriders” drive the motorcycle-centric drama set in the 1960s. Inspired by Danny Lyon’s iconic book of photography, “The Bikeriders” centers on the subculture of the era’s motorcycle riders. Comer plays Kathy, a strong-willed member of the Vandals gang who’s married to a wild, reckless bikerider named Benny (Butler). Kathy recounts the Vandals’ evolution over the course of a decade, beginning as a local club of outsiders led by Johnny (Hardy) and later turning into a dangerous crime-driven gang.
Michael Shannon, Boyd Holbrook, and Norman Reedus also star.

For me, Jeff Nichols’ The Bikeriders is emblematic of Disney’s big content problem. They were set to put out the star-studded biker flick in time for a 2023 awards run, but about a month ago, they decided to wash their hands of the finished film, with Nichols’ usual studio, Focus Features, swooping in to pick it up. It’s very strange to me that Disney, which owns the studio (20th Century Films) that was set to distribute it, didn’t see any potential in a movie starring Tom Hardy, Austin Butler, Jodie Comer and Michael Shannon. Given how many flops they’ve had recently, why not take a chance at an upscale adult audience with something a little different?

The release was postponed during the strikes, and Focus Features’ The Bikeriders will now open on June 21, 2024.
The film currently sits at 85% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics calling it “an affectionate take on a much-romanticized subculture” and “a vivid, fleshed-out insider’s eye view of a subculture populated by authentically hard-edged lost souls”.
Oscar nominee Austin Butler (Elvis), Emmy Award winner Jodie Comer (Killing Eve), Oscar nominee Tom Hardy (The Revenant), and Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead) lead the cast. The ensemble also includes Michael Shannon (Bullet Train), Mike Faist (West Side Story), and Boyd Holbrook (Logan).

Focus Features has set a release date for Jeff Nichols’ The Bikeriders, a crime epic about a motorcycle club in the 1950s that stars Austin Butler, Jodie Comer and Tom Hardy.

After losing its initial release date of December 1, 2023, the upcoming drama film “The Bikeriders” is now facing further setbacks with reports suggesting that 20th Century Studios, a subsidiary of Disney, may be looking to offload the film.

“The Bikeriders,” a drama directed by Jeff Nichols and starring Austin Butler, Jodie Comer and Tom Hardy, is being shopped around town after Disney took the film off its slate.
Disney and 20th Century were scheduled to open the film on Dec. 1. It’s now unlikely to land on the big screen this year, according to the new Hollywood newsletter TheInSneider, which first reported on New Regency’s plan to shop the film.

When we think about the cultural upheaval of the United States in the 1960s as depicted on screen, the focus tends to be on one of three places: Los Angeles, New York, and the American South. These places were where change regarding politics, race relations, societal mores, and art were most visible. But change was happening all over the country. It just was manifesting itself in different ways, even amongst groups of people you wouldn't expect to be going through any kind of evolution.

Tracing the evolution of a fictional motorbike gang known as the Vandals, writer-director Jeff Nichols’s The Bikeriders takes its inspiration from a photobook of the same name by influential mid-20th-century photographer Danny Lyon. A major contributor to the “new realism” photography movement, Lyon lived alongside his leather-clad petrolhead subjects for months at a time, helping him create urgent, spontaneous images of their outlaw lifestyle that oozed authenticity. Unfortunately, those latter qualities are in short supply in the film, but the sheer exuberance of the story and the stylistic brio of Nichols’s direction often compensate.
The Bikeriders is narrated by Kathy (Jodie Comer), the girlfriend of fiercely committed young Vandals member Benny (Austin Butler). She relays the idiosyncrasies and transgressions of the gang from a slight remove as it evolves from a blue-collar fraternity and surrogate family to a nihilistic crime syndicate. The stars have aligned for film fanatics as three of our favorite actors are joining forces: Tom Hardy, Jodie Comer, and Austin Butler will be teaming up for new film "The Bikeriders," Deadline confirmed on Aug. 4.
New Regency did not immediately respond to Popsugar's request for comment, but according to Deadline, "Mud" director and writer Jeff Nichols will helm the film, which is based on a 1967 photography book by Danny Lyon of the same name. The fictional story follows members of a motorcycle club that begins with community roots but then veers into gang territory, so we can expect some epic costumes. The film will start shooting in October, and the cast alone has got us seriously excited.

Belle (Mamoru Hosoda)
If a name can trigger nostalgia, don’t be surprised when the occasional sense of deja vu sets in while watching Belle, a dazzling near-future tech fantasia wrapped around a tale, yes, as old as time. Directed by Mamoru Hosoda and mostly set in a vast online world of sweeping musical numbers and weightless action sequences, it tells of Suzu, an awkward teenager (as if there were any other kind) who finds quick fame performing as the pop-singer Belle: her avatar on a hugely popular social media platform called U that looks like a sugary cocktail of Tik Tok and “The Oasis” from Spielberg’s Ready Player One. – Rory O. After a prolific streak with Take Shelter, Mud, Midnight Special, and Loving, we haven’t seen a new directorial feature from Jeff Nichols in six long years. It’s not for lack of trying, however, as he was developing Yankee Comandante, Alien Nation, and most recently, A Quiet Place prequel. Now putting those in the rearview, he’s announced his next project.
Deadline reports he’ll direct The Bikeriders, a fictional story inspired by the photography of Danny Lyon and his 1967 book of the same name. Set to star Tom Hardy, Jodie Comer, and Austin Butler, the film follows “the rise of a fictional Midwestern motorcycle club” in the 1960s. “Seen through the lives of its members, the club evolves over the course of a decade from a gathering place for local outsiders into a more sinister gang, threatening the original group’s unique way of life,” the synopsis reads.

Since any New York City cinephile has a nearly suffocating wealth of theatrical options, we figured it’d be best to compile some of the more worthwhile repertory showings into one handy list. Displayed below are a few of the city’s most reliable theaters and links to screenings of their weekend offerings — films you’re not likely to see in a theater again anytime soon, and many of which are, also, on 35mm. If you have a chance to attend any of these, we’re of the mind that it’s time extremely well-spent.

After years of legal wrangling, Lance Armstrong finally settled the $100 million fraud lawsuit filed against him by the U.S. Postal Service — he will pay $5 million to the federal government and another $1.65 million to cover legal costs incurred by former teammate and whistleblower Floyd Landis — and the sale of his Austin, Texas, mansion, now up for grabs at $7.5 million, would certainly help towards pulling together the funds required to pay his restitutions. The once globally celebrated pedal pusher, who had his seven Tour de France titles stripped from him and was barred for life from Olympic sports in 2012 after it was determined he’d used performance enhancing drugs, purchased the stately Central Austin spread for an unrecorded amount from longtime Democratic Party mover and shaker Ben Barnes in May of 2013, just months after he admitted in a televised interview with Oprah Winfrey he had, in fact, doped for all seven...

Hidden Figures, the true story of three African-American women who contributed their math expertise to the Nasa space program, is set during the 1960s, but cinematographer Mandy Walker decided with director Ted Melfi that they "wanted it to feel period, but a modern version of that." They researched documentaries (such as Eyes on the Prize, a series about the civil rights movement), period news footage, and the work of photographers Danny Lyon, Gordon Parks and Saul Leiter. "Our look came from a combination of those, but more than anything, we decided it should have a Kodachrome look," she explains.
