The Society of Voice Arts and Sciences will present Viola Davis with the Muhammad Ali Voice of Humanity Honor at the Voice Arts Awards 10th Anniversary Gala. The honor recognizes Davis’ talent, passion for social justice and willingness to tackle social problems through her commitment to the truth.
“This honor was created in furtherance of The Champ’s legacy of embodying resilience and courage in the face of social injustice and adversity. Viola Davis shares those traits,” said Joan Baker, founder and vice President of Sovas, in a statement.

Willie Nelson to Keynote 2021 Virtual SXSW, Speakers Include Taraji P. Henson, Richard Branson, More
South by Southwest Conference and Festivals has announced that legendary singer-songwriter Willie Nelson will keynote this year’s virtual event, along with an initial lineup of featured speakers and over 230 conference sessions.
SXSW Online, taking place March 16–20, 2021, will feature conference sessions, music festival showcases, film festival screenings, and more.
“No individual has had the cultural impact on, or been more synonymous with the creative vibrancy of Austin than Willie Nelson, and we are incredibly honored to have him as a SXSW Online 2021 Keynote,” said Hugh Forrest, Chief Programming Officer. “In addition to dozens of incredible featured speakers, today’s announcement also includes more than 200 sessions curated from our global community via PanelPicker, and is a key part of the premium content you can expect from SXSW Online 2021.”
In addition to the Keynote and Featured Speakers announced today, SXSW has published over 230 programming sessions sourced from the community and curated by SXSW staff.

Given all the praise heaped on Billy Eichner’s performance this year as the wisecracking meerkat Timon in Jon Favreau’s remake of “The Lion King,” which grossed $1.6 billion worldwide, you’d think he would be a bigger contender in the Oscar conversation. His work was such a standout, he even upstaged Beyoncé’s much-hyped appearance in the animated film.
After seeing the movie at its Los Angeles premiere back in July, I tweeted, “@disneylionking has brought @billyeichner to another level. Gamechanger. Hollywood needs to give him everything.”
Eichner replied, “Did you hear that Hollywood??? Everything!!!!”
“Everything” should include an Oscar nomination for supporting actor.
But that’s unlikely.
Voice performances are eligible in the acting categories, but no one has ever been nominated for such work, presumably because what Oscar voter is going to not favor a live-action star?
That’s a shame. And this is why the Academy...
