Pure evil. Bite-sized. Back in the 1980s, it seemed like mini monsters were absolutely everywhere. Films like The Gate, Gremlins, Ghoulies and Critters delivered pint-sized terror, and indie filmmaker Brett Kelly’s latest pays tribute to that particular sub-genre. It’s titled Ghastlies, and it’s headed home on November 11 via Camp Motion Pictures! In Ghastlies… Three sorority sisters […]...

Nope, you didn’t read that heading wrong. Despite sharing a similar title to That Indiana Jones film, Raiders of the Lost Shark is not a rip-roaring archaeological adventure, instead it’s the latest in a long line of creature-feature movies that have, for what seems like eons now, been a mainstay of the Syfy channel (see Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus, Sharknado, Swamp Shark et al).
Four friends set out by boat for an idyllic vacation on a private, remote island. But unknown to them, a weaponized shark has escaped from a top secret military lab nearby, a shark that was genetically engineered with hate in its blood, and programmed to hunt any human within range. Now, these friends must band together to battle an all new brand of predator who will stop at nothing to remain at the top of the food chain.

Next out of the gate for you indie horror loving cats is a new sneak peek from the next flick from Brett Kelly, The Bonesetter! Even the title unnerves us a bit. Check it out along with the previously released trailer, artwork and details.
From the Press Release
Director Brett Kelly (My Fair Zombie) is hard at work on pre-production for his latest horror film The Bonesetter. The Bonesetter is the tale of a town with a dark secret. A century ago a traveling healer was lynched for killing the town's children, and now, in the present, the current generation of townsfolk are faced with the supernatural return of the murderous Bonesetter.
If this sounds somewhat familiar, it's because Kelly originally made a version of The Bonesetter in 2002 and a sequel in 2005, both of which found their way to DVD. In revisiting the tale, Kelly says; "I was never able...

You ever wonder why zombies can't talk? Perhaps they don't have the right teacher.
With the increasing number of zombie movies being made lately, there is plenty of criticism suggesting that there is little originality amongst them. Then there's musical-parody-zombie flick My Fair Zombie, which, despite what one thinks after watching the movie's first trailer, at least no one can complain that they've seen this movie before.
Co-written and directed by Brett Kelly, aka Miles Long, the Canadian filmmaker responsible for such cinematic, "mockbuster" masterpieces as Jurassic Shark, Thunderstorm: The Return of Thor and Avenging Force: The Scarab. Not everyone has been a fan of Kelly's, with one unhappy IMDb user placing him 80th on a list of all-time "Worst Horror Movie Directors," but with each new movie comes a chance at redemption, and, from the trailer at least, My Fair Zombie looks like it cold be an amusing enough movie,...

'Jurassic Shark' and 'Kingdom of the Vampire' helmer Brett Kelly is busy putting the final touches to his latest horror comedy 'My Fair Zombie'. The project which stars Sacha Gabriel, Lawrence Evenchick, Barry Caiger, Jennifer Vallance and Jason Redmond is based on the George Bernard Shaw play 'Pygmalion' which of course was turned into a Broadway show and adapted into a feature back in 1964. If only all of the living dead could look like the beautiful Audrey Hepburn, then maybe that unavoidable zombie apocalypse we have waiting for us wouldn't be so bad.
Unfortunately, that's not the case, but the makers of the upcoming film My Fair Zombie do know how to get the undead cleaned up nicely. Check out the teaser.
The film is currently in pre-production and we know little more than the director is Brett Kelly, but we've got to admit it's a fun concept, reminiscent of the Howard Sherman portrayed zombie, Bub, from Day of the Dead, whom humans futilely tried to train. Maybe they'll have better results with a proper lady. For more check out MyFairZombieMovie.com

When “Shark Night” was released last year, I thought, “Hey! If these low-budget shark-oriented features are endlessly entertaining, a slicker, glossier version should be mind-blowing.” Guess what? Not so much. When it comes to monster flicks, the lower the budget, the better. In my opinion, anyway. Brett Kelly’s upcoming aquatic horror movie “Jurassic Shark” seems to thoroughly understand this theory. And that “Free Willy” shot about halfway through the clip? Classic. What’s that lurking beneath the surface? It’s a synopsis: The story follows two groups of people — one, a group of students, the other, a group of criminals — who are shipwrecked on an island by a giant shark. The island was once used for illegal drilling, and the oil company inadvertantly released the giant shark from its slumber. When last we heard about Brett Kelly’s Jurassic Shark, it was the end of November when the first trailer surfaced – a trailer for a killer shark movie with very little shark in it. This new trailer is more or less the same but with the computerized shark actually doing more than just swimming about.

Emanuelle Carriere, Christine Emes, and Celine Filion fill some of the bikinis potentially on this prehistoric shark’s dinner menu.

The re-emergence of marine based b-movies over this past year has been borderline ridiculous. Couple this with the fact that sharks, in particular, seem to be showing up in mainstream cinema as well it feels like a month doesn't pass without the announcement, arrival or abject disappointment of a shark-related horror flick. Forgetting the likes of 'Shark Night 3D', 'Swamp Shark', 'Bait', 'Dark Tide', 'Sand Sharks' and '2 Headed Shark Attack' production company Tom Cat Films' contribution to the ever growing sub-genre comes in the form of low-budget horror flick 'Jurassic Shark'. Helmed by Brett Kelly ('Kingdom of the Vampire') and penned by David A. Lloyd ('Bikini Girls from the Lost Planet', 'Ghost in a Teeny Bikini') the movie has just gained itself a new trailer. Emanuelle Carriere, Christine Emes, Celine Filion, Angela Parent, Duncan Milloy and Kevin Preece star. Check out the new trailer below.

Yet another marine-based horror b-movie joins the legion of shark movies slated for release in 2012. Next year certainly appears that it'll be year of the shark and Brett Kelly's 'Jurassic Shark' is the latest to join the slew of flicks with bite that'll be washing ashore soon. Hotties Emanuelle Carriere, Christine Emes, Celine Filion and Angela Parent all star in the movie which appears to be very much in the vein of recent Asylum and SyFy productions. You can check out just some of the stills below from the production which feature the main cast members not up to much aside from looking sexy and sporting bikinis and tans. Did you see that story in the news today about the cyclops shark that was discovered? You just know that’s going to be turned into a Syfy original movie in the next 24 months. In the meantime, a Jurassic Shark is rising from depths to take a bite out of shark movie watchers.
Filmmaker Brett Kelly has been a busy little beaver in the world of low budget b-movies the past few years churning out sci-fi, horror, and superhero genre fare with titles like Prey for the Beast, She-Rex, Iron Soldier, and back in 2008 remade Attack of the Giant Leeches. It seems in this day in age if you’re a genre filmmaker you will at some point make a killer shark movie. Brett Kelly’s time has come.

Brett Kelly has churned out quite a few B-movies in his day, including such undiscovered “classics” as “The Bonesetter” and “Prey for the Beast”, films that generally end up in those big collections you can score for next to nothing. I remember enjoying them for what they were, but to be honest, I can’t recall too much about them. That probably has more to do with my wonky memory than it does anything else. But, I digress. Next up for Kelly are the films “Jurassic Shark” and “My Fair Zombie”, motion pictures that seem tailor-made for SyFy. Check out the artwork below. On April 7th director Brett Kelly releases his remake of the schlock classic Attack of the Giant Leeches. The film, which was executive produced by Roger Corman, looks as if it is shaping up to be quite "interesting" to say the least. Interested?

Not to worry, oh lovers of cheesy B-cinema everywhere, we wouldn’t let 2008 come to a close without adding some last-minute cheese garnish to the year. Not that this year hasn’t been rife with news on low budget cinema masterpieces waiting to happen, but not nearly enough of them have had to do with giant leeches!
We got a heads up this morning that Brett Kelly’s remake of Roger Corman’s 1959 classic Attack of the Giant Leeches is finally set for a solid DVD release on April 7th, 2009 from Midnight Releasing. We also got a look at the cover art, as you can see, which I have to say doesn’t revel in the low budget B-movieness of the film nearly enough. Looks like it’s trying to be downright respectable.
No matter, it’s got giant leeches and (hopefully) lots of blood, so not much can go wrong with it,...

Trailers have popped up recently for three new creature features: the Devon Sawa-starring Creature of Darkness, the remake of Attack of the Giant Leeches, and the extraterrestrial battle royal Alien Grey Area-x. Wanna take a look see?
Let's start with the Creature of Darkness, the monster movie starring Devon Sawa I first wrote about back in March. Fangoria is hosting the exclusive trailer for the fright flick about a group of friends in the woods being hunted by a monstrous being known as "The Catcher" that's been haunting Sawa's dreams. I harken back to that Don Dohler documentary Blood, Boobs, & Beast (review) that was named so after Dohler's mantra about the three things needed to help sell your monster movie. Indeed, Creature of Darkness looks to deliver plenty of blood, quite a few boobs, and a rather cool looking beast. Joe Bob says check it out.
