Legal experts and trial attorneys Dana and Keith Cutler will become the first-ever married couple to preside over a television courtroom, one in which couples come to share their stories of cheating. The husband and wife presiders have been married and practicing law together for nearly 30 years, if readers were wondering about their qualifications. TORONTO -- The Directors Guild of Canada said Thursday that it will honor Canadian-born helmer Arthur Hiller with its lifetime achievement award Oct. 2. The announcement was made as the DGC unveiled nominations for its upcoming Directors Guild of Canada Awards, to be handed out on the same night in Toronto at the Carlu. This year's juried competition will see Canadian filmmakers Denys Arcand, Guy Maddin, Lea Pool and Scott Smith face off for the best director trophy. And on the TV side, homegrown talent Sturla Gunnarsson, Kari Skogland and brothers David Wellington and Peter Wellington will compete for the best TV director award. Leslie Nielsen will fellow Canadian Hiller the lifetime achievement award, which recognizes a DGC member's career and body of work. The DGC will also give its distinguished service award to former DGC president Keith Cutler. In all, trophies will be handed out in 19 team and craft award categories.
