Malachi(XII)
Malachi Nathaniel Hopkins is an African America male residing in his hometown of Portland, Oregon. He attended Jefferson high school and graduated from Oregon state university with a degree in political science. His love for traveling allowed him to study the education system in Havana, Cuba for two weeks while attending OSU. He also had the unique opportunity to live with a host family in Chillan, Chile to be immersed in the Latinx culture for 7 months. Growing up Malachi always felt like a part of him was missing. This was in fact because he didn't know who he really was. When he was born, he was involved in a closed adoption and had no complete idea of who his biological parents were. For the last twelve years plus, he had been on an active search trying to put the puzzle pieces together on who his biological parents were and what circumstances were present that resulted in him having to be adopted by a foster family and shortly after a permanent family. He knew from a very young age that he was adopted.
His adopted parents were very upfront with him about his background. What they couldn't do was elaborate on what that exactly meant, and at the time it was good enough for him because of how old he was. As Malachi got older, he started to ask more questions about where he came from and who his parents were. By the grace of God Malachi's adopted mother grew up in the church with his biological mother but because of the difference in age they weren't friends but more of "say hi in passing" friends. There were small stories and encounters that were passed to him that he kept dear to his heart about his mother but nothing he could fully grasp. Malachi's father was a different story. The only clue he had was a court document stating that his name was Michael. The bulk of his young adult life was spent following dead end after another trying to put his background together. Malachi believes everything happens for a reason, and on February 14th, 2019, Malachi woke up to a message on Instagram from a familiar match on a popular DNA database. He would soon discover that all his hard work searching for his biological families had paid off.
