Hunting for the Hag begins with Tara sitting across the table from a rather sceptical lawyer who keeps telling her the footage on her laptop won’t help her out of the mess she’s in. She reminds him that he was the one who contacted her, and if he doesn’t actually watch the footage, or she’s leaving.
The footage also begins with Tara, noticeably lacking the facial scar she had in the opening scenes, introducing herself as we find out that she, along with her friends Beth and Candy are setting out to get footage of the entity known as The Hawthorne Hag (Nathan Brandon Gaik; Dead Bodies Everywhere).

Exclusive: Producers Ian Collie and Rob Gibson are best known for helping bring an injured mongrel dog into the global consciousness in Colin From Accounts. Ahead of a busy 2024, the pair sat down with Deadline to chat about plans for their Easy Tiger Productions imprint, the state of TV in Australia and signing with CAA.
And where else to start, but with Colin From Accounts, Australian streamer Binge’s romantic sitcom series written by and starring real-life couple Patrick Brammall and Harriet Dyer. Over the weekend, the critically acclaimed show, winner of the Most Outstanding Comedy Program at the Logies, went into production on Season 2 after a delay primarily caused by the U.S. writers strike.
Gibson was first alerted to what would become Colin just after leaving his post as Head of Originals at Binge rival Stan. “Harriet had given me the script as a writing sample for another show,...

This post contains spoilers for "Extraction" and "Extraction 2."
Back when everyone was stuck inside during the global pandemic, we apparently did nothing but stream the heck out of Netflix's 2020 actioner "Extraction." Starring Chris Hemsworth as black market mercenary Tyler Rake, the film became the most-streamed original movie on the platform, making a sequel all but certain. And wouldn't you know, Netflix churned out a follow-up in no time, debuting "Extraction 2" in 2023 and doubling down on the unrelenting action sequences of the first movie. Whereas the first film delivered a 12-minute "one-take" sequence, the sequel featured a full 21 minutes of unbroken action as Rake battled his way out of a Georgian prison, taking down innumerable thugs and a few helicopters on his way.
Despite the fact that "Extraction 2" was an exhausting and dour return to the world of Tyler Rake, it clearly managed to rake in (sorry) the...

Not so long ago, the only Australian TV shows imported by the UK and US were soaps and the odd kids’ series. Neighbours, Home & Away, Prisoner: Cell Block H, Heartbreak High, and child trauma factory Round the Twist went overseas, but not much else.
It didn’t make for a very complete picture. 30 years ago, if you’d asked a British person to conjure up Australia based solely on its available TV output, they’d have pictured a land of bait shops, haunted lighthouses, prison wings, and cul de sacs where good neighbours become good friends. Ask one now, and thanks to streaming, it’d be a much broader church, based on viewing comedies, thrillers, dramas, detective shows and more.
Here are some of the best Australian TV series currently available to stream in the UK and US. We’ll update this selection as new series arrive.

New York, New York – June 12: Chris Hemsworth attends Netflix’s Extraction 2 New York Premiere at Jazz at Lincoln Center on June 12, 2023 in New York City. (Photo by Emilio Madrid for Netflix) After the first Extraction film introduced us to the Tyler Rake character, the second film could have just jumped right into the action, figuring the audience already knows everything it needs to know about him. But, Chris Hemsworth told us, the movie didn’t go that route. Instead, the sequel dives even deeper into Rake’s origin story, and Hemsworth appreciates that the writers and producers decided to infuse the action with a lot more emotion in that way. Chris Hemsworth returns as Tyler Rake in Extraction 2, the sequel to Netflix’s blockbuster action film Extraction. After barely surviving the events of the first movie, Rake is back as the Australian black ops mercenary, tasked with another deadly mission: rescuing the battered family of a ruthless Georgian gangster from the prison where they are being held.
Hemsworth reunites with director Sam Hargrave, with Joe and Anthony Russo’s Agbo producing and Joe Russo writing. Golshifteh Farahani reprises her role from the first film, with Adam Bessa, Olga Kurylenko, Daniel Bernhardt and Tinatin Dalakishvili also co-starring.
The film hits Netflix on June 16.
This is a sequel to the first film that was based on the graphic novel ‘Ciudad’ by Ande Parks, from a story by Ande Parks, Joe Russo & Anthony Russo, with illustrations by Fernando León González. Extraction 2 is produced by Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Mike Larocca, Angela Russo-Otstot,...

Extraction 2 director Sam Hargrave is part of a current wave of stuntmen turned directors, and so he’s routinely mentioned in the same sentence as John Wick co-creators Chad Stahelski and David Leitch. Hargrave actually cut his directorial teeth by creating stunt-viz and fight-viz for the likes of Stahelski and Leitch, as well as the Russo brothers, Gavin O’Connor and Francis Lawrence. And so when Hargrave got called up to the majors to direct 2020’s Extraction, starring Chris Hemsworth, he executed the action filmmaking at such a high level that Netflix knew they had a franchise in the making, prerelease.
Hargrave admits that there’s good-natured competition between him and his contemporaries, even if John Wick: Chapter 4 made him doubt himself ever so briefly.
“If you’ve seen John Wick: Chapter 4, it’s a masterpiece. Sometimes, it makes you want to go home and hang it up and say, ‘Yeah,...

Let’s get straight into it.

Early in the Netflix action flick Extraction 2, handler Nik Khan (Golshifteh Farahani) looks upon the battered body of mercenary Tyler Rake (Chris Hemsworth) and observes, “You fought your way back.” That might sound like a bit of empty exposition, but those who saw the first Extraction know how remarkable Rake’s achievement actually is. Adapted from the Ande Parks comic Cuidad, 2020’s Extraction ended with Rake plummeting into the Ganges after being stabbed and shot. A lot.
But as clear as Nik’s first comment may be, her follow-up is much more baffling. “You just have to find out why,” she continues, the camera holding on her face to make sure everyone understands just how concerned she is.
In its weakest moments, Extraction 2 spends too much time dwelling on the hero’s existential crisis. The first 20 minutes of the movie follow mercenary Rake as he recovers from his...

Extraction 2 is the sequel to the 2020 film Extraction, also directed by Sam Hargrave and starring Chris Hemsworth as Tyler Rake. Rudhraksh Jaiswal and Golshifteh Farahani complete the cast.
Building upon the successful elements of its predecessor, this sequel amps up the action and intensity, leaving little room for intelligence.
Plot
Tasked with rescuing a family in the clutches of a Georgian gangster, Tyler Rake infiltrates one of the world’s deadliest prisons. But when the extraction goes awry and the gangster dies in the heat of battle, his equally ruthless brother tracks down Rake and his team to Sydney for revenge.
Movie Review Extraction 2
If you enjoyed the first film, you’ll enjoy the second even more. But if you found the first lacking in substance, the second will seem truly ridiculous. It’s a pure action movie that follows the rules of the genre and delivers a stereotypical sequel lacking in cinematic interest,...

Chris Hemsworth returns to our home screens to redeem himself after the disaster that was Thor: Love And Thunder, but does it work? Hemsworth is the star of Extraction, and he tries his best to make do with what he’s been given, but there isn’t much to go on. Not to say he’s not a great action hero, but at least his ripped body and gigantic-ness make everything he does in these films believable. But that’s not enough to keep a franchise like Extraction alive. It’s especially disappointing because of how good the first part was. There was grit and emotion and some fantastic fight sequences that kept us on the edge of our seats at all times. More importantly, there was a reason to root for Tyler Rake because there was a despicable and ruthless villain against him.

Tyler Rake was clinically dead when we last saw him at the end of “Extraction,” tumbling over a bridge in Bangladesh with a fatal, burbling bullet wound to his neck. But death is no match for Netflix.

A funny thing happened during our worldwide lockdown in 2020. With theaters shuttered, our immediate movie-going futures looking bleak and escapist entertainment becoming a therapeutic necessity, along came the rise of The Streaming Service Blockbuster — most notably “Extraction.” Stuntman-turned-director Sam Hargrave’s muscular albeit convoluted actioner, centered on a mercenary sent to rescue the kidnapped son of a crime lord, was handed a captive audience. All the folks at home made it a worldwide sensation for Netflix, and it continues to tear up the charts as their seventh most popular film ever.
Three years later and armed with a far better, bloody and bruising quest for the laconic hero, Hargrave, star Chris Hemsworth and screenwriter Joe Russo return to the burgeoning franchise with “Extraction 2”. The filmmakers’ renewed vigor is our reward as, similar to its unfussy title, this sequel deals in clean-lined action and suspense, removing much of the excessive...

Seemingly dead at the end of the previous movie, Hemsworth returns as the tough guy mercenary with a heart of gold on a mission to save someone from something
Once again, as if wound up by an enormous key fitted into the space between his shoulder blades, Chris Hemsworth comes lumbering out for Netflix’s burgeoning Extraction franchise, his muppety-handsome features scrunched into an expression of determination with a soupçon of sensitivity. Screenwriter Joe Russo and director Sam Hargrave have reunited to extrude another calorific portion of action content from their creative intestines and Hemsworth again plays Tyler Rake, the tough guy mercenary with a heart of gold whom we kind of assumed was dead at the end of the previous movie but turns out to have been just very very unwell.

Although the title triggers thoughts of a highly unpleasant visit to the dentist, Extraction 2 more than measures up to expectations stirred by the gritty and massively lethal non-stop action of the initial entry last year. Stuntman-turned-director Sam Hargrave clearly made it his mission here to not only turn up the voltage even further but also to register a significant greater body count than he did the first time around. He also pulls off staggering long-take action shots that are blatantly show-offy but jaw-dropping nonetheless, unmatched in their seamless creation. Even seen-it-all violence geeks and gamers will be humbled, impressed and mightily turned on. Since the first entry has been touted as the most-watched Netflix original ever with 99 million views registered in the first four weeks alone, it’s no surprise that the wheels are in already in motion for a third installment to be onscreen a year from now.

Say what you will about 2023, but at the very least, it has been generously scratching a cinematic itch: a craving for the type of kinetic, nimble action cinema (one blessedly not superhero-driven) that used to be in the audiences’ regular moviegoing diet back in the 1990s.
Indeed, amid the miraculous “John Wick 4,” the surprisingly deep “Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant,” the deliriously fun and high-concept “Plane” and even the unapologetically feminist indie “Polite Society,” the year’s first half has treated us to a delectable buffet of polished chase sequences, high-wire escapes and punchy fist fights. So why not make room for one more before Tom Cruise arrives on the scene with “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One” and flies off a cliff on a motorcycle?

You didn’t think we’d seen the last of Tyler Rake, did you?
The black-ops mercenary played by Chris Hemsworth was the hero of 2020’s Extraction, one of Netflix’s most watched movies ever. So it’s hardly a surprise that the tough-as-nails, macho character returns in the unimaginatively titled Extraction 2, reuniting the Thor actor with director Sam Hargrave and screenwriter Joe Russo (co-director with brother Anthony on four MCU entries, including two Avengers flicks) for another wildly over-the-top adventure based on Andre Parks’ graphic novel Ciudad.
Suffice it to say that if you enjoyed Extraction, you’ll have a fine time with this one, which, in typical franchise fashion, busts its butt attempting to outdo its predecessor. And it does, most notably in a “oner” action sequence designed to appear as if it were filmed in a single take that lasts 21 minutes, or nearly twice as long...

Thor has a hammer, but Netflix has a Rake…as in Tyler Rake, Extraction‘s black-ops mercenary played by Marvel god Chris Hemsworth. In this sequel to the 2020 hit — still one of Netflix’s most watched originals ever — Rake’s recovery from a brutal face-off with an Indian drug lord is cut short when his team is recruited to free his former sister-in-law and her kids from a foreign prison. The action is A+ (strap in for a jaw-dropping 21-minute escape sequence!), and Hemsworth is in on almost all of it, raves stuntman turned director Sam Hargrave. “If you are seeing his face, then he was doing [the stunt]…. He was in the cars doing driving, he was hanging from wires off the side of the buildings. He was lit on fire!” Still, the role allows the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s resident Nordic god the chance to flex more than biceps. “He...

Hollywood star Chris Hemsworth, who is gearing up for the release of his upcoming release ‘Extraction 2’, has shared that the film will go back in time to the past of his character and will present the events that have made him the guy that he is in the present.
The film, which is set to release on Ott on June 16, promises to take audiences on another thrilling adventure filled with high-octane action and suspense.
As he steps back into the shoes of his character Tyler Rake, Chris Hemsworth shared: “It’s tricky to carry on with a character and not explain his past. So much of the first film was about Rake and the young boy he was rescuing. We touched a little bit on his backstory, and this new film gave us an opportunity to really dig into that and find out why he is the way he is.
Back in 2020, Netflix served up "Extraction," apparently at just the right moment as the film became one of the most-watched streaming movies of 2020. Writer Joe Russo tried to wring some emotion from his story of a black market mercenary rescuing the son of a drug lord but basically penned a non-stop shoot 'em up with a kind-of-cool 12-minute one-take shot.
But according to Netflix's viewing figures, that turned out to be a winning formula, which of course meant the streamer greenlit a sequel. And now, two years after the first movie debuted, we're about to see the return of Chris Hemsworth's Tyler Rake as he embarks on a new mission to extract the family of a Georgian gangster from some hellish confinement. And it seems this time around, Russo and director Sam Hargrave have somehow managed to push the action even further, with "Extraction 2" promising to deliver a...

The turbulent ride for the survivors of Flight 828 — the commercial airliner that mysteriously vanished for five and a half years before reappearing — is closely matched by Manifest ’s own miraculous journey. The thrilling drama began on NBC in 2018 but, post-cancellation in 2021, jumped to Netflix, finding new life and surprising popularity. Part 1 of its swan-song season aired last November, and now “our final 10 [episodes] will wrap up the story the way I originally envisioned, with all the points I always wanted to hit,” says executive producer Jeff Rake. After an eight-month time jump during the first episode, resolution is on the flight path. “We’ve been keeping a running laundry list in the writers’ room, and it’s our goal to resolve every open-ended question,” Rake says. To that end, “There are core moments in the final 10 episodes that hopefully will help fans understand the how and why of [everything].” On the way,...

Chris Hemsworth returns as Tyler Rake for Extraction 2, but could he already be planning a return for Extraction 3?
The actor expressed his love for the Extraction franchise while speaking with Total Film. “I love it,” Chris Hemsworth said. “I love playing the character. I love this world. I love having something else outside of Marvel that’s amassed a bit of a following, something more in the real world. I honestly feel like we made a better film than the first one. That’s rare in the franchise world. We’d be remiss not to have a crack at another one.” Hemsworth went on to tease that he already has an idea of where Extraction 3 can go. “There is so much room for this franchise to expand and places where it can go,” Hemsworth said. “I’m excited about what that next adventure for Tyler Rake could be. Around a year and a half after Netflix rescued former NBC series "Manifest" from cancelation, the show is gearing up to bring its narrative to a close. The series was technically canceled by NBC in June 2021, but managed to find a home on Netflix after a successful fan campaign proved to be the show's saving grace.
"What started years ago as a flight of fancy deep in my imagination has evolved into the jet engine journey of a lifetime," "Manifest" showrunner Jeff Rake said in a 2021 press release. "Never in my wildest dreams could I have envisioned the worldwide outpouring of love and support for this story, its characters, and the team who work so hard to bring it all to life. That we will be able to reward the fans with the ending they deserve moves me to no end. On behalf of the cast, the crew, the writers,...

The much-awaited trailer for the action thriller ‘Extraction 2’ is out. Scheduled for streaming on Netflix from June 16, the Chris Hemsworth-starrer is being helmed by stuntman-turned-filmmaker Sam Hargravere, who’s wokring alongside the hitmakers Joe and Anthony Russo.
The sequel stars Chris Hemsworth, Golshifteh Farahani, Daniel Bernhardt and Tinatin Dalakishvili.
In the first instalment released in 2020, and which also starred Randeep Hooda, Tyler Rake, the Australian black market mercenary played by Hemsworth, had to extract a boy safely from India.
This time he must rescue the family of a ruthless Georgian gangster from the prison where they are being held.
The screenplay, written by Joe Russo, is based on the graphic novel ‘Ciudad’.
If the first film introduced audiences to Rake as a seasoned action hero, Hargrave says the sequel aims to show how he got that way, and the toll it has taken on him and those close to him.

The official trailer for Extraction 2 has Chris Hemsworth returning from near death as black ops mercenary Tyler Rake in another brutal display of power when he is personally requested for a rescue mission.
As is explained in the high-octane footage (below), Rake was clinically dead nine months ago. But he fought his way back and now, he just has to find out why.
Rake’s deadly mission follows his surviving the events of the original film and in the sequel aiming to rescue the battered family of a ruthless Georgian gangster from prison against impossible odds. Hemsworth continues such death-defying stunts in the nonstop, brutal and bloody Extraction 2 trailer.

Back when the global pandemic was ramping up, it turned out all anyone wanted to do was watch Chris Hemsworth get put through the wringer. "Extraction" proved a big hit for Netflix when it debuted in April 2020 — at least according to the streamer, which claimed the action thriller broke viewership records. Naturally, that meant there was always going to be an "Extraction 2," even though Hemsworth's black market mercenary, Tyler Rake, looked like he almost certainly perished at the end of the first one.
Rake was shot multiple times before falling off a bridge during the finale of "Extraction." But in the film's closing moments, it was suggested he may have survived the ordeal, as a blurry figure emerges right before the film cuts to black. Then, an "Extraction 2" teaser arrived back in September 2021, confirming his survival. Things went kind of quiet for a while after that, before we...

Who needs a mystical hammer? Or a magical axe? Or a fancy red cape? Tyler Rake, Chris Hemsworth’s other action mega-hero, sure doesn’t, judging by the intense new trailer for his Russo brothers-produced Netflix sequel, Extraction 2. In these two minutes alone, we see Rake take what should surely be a lethal blow to the head, batter a police officer with his own riot shield, and punch a load of blokes whilst his arm is on fire – and that’s all in one sustained shot, following the mercenary as he tries to break a woman free from prison. Oh, and then he shoots down a helicopter in the snow. Go on, liven up your Monday afternoon. Watch it below:
As you’ll remember from the climax of 2020’s Extraction – spoiler warning, if you haven’t seen it yet, though this is shown through flashbacks in the trailer– Tyler...
