It’s not common that one sees Keanu Reeves in a movie that depicts him as anything less than a hero or a troubled hero, or at the very least, someone that needs to believe in himself. But as Lucas Hill, he’s not exactly an evil human being, but he’s not really someone that people might recognize either. Till is a diamond merchant that travels to Russia to sell several rare blue diamonds to a dangerous gangster, but upon reaching the country he finds that his partner, Pyotr, has gone missing. The biggest problem is that the diamonds have gone missing

CNN has deleted a video online amid outcry from physicians and researchers over its drug-related subject matter.
Nearly 400 doctors and experts sent a letter to a variety of outlets this week — and there are plans to send it to more — urging them to retract stories that credulously repeated the San Diego Sheriff’s Office’s claim that a sheriff’s deputy trainee overdosed after being exposed to fentanyl. The doctors are concerned that misinformation has created a dangerous perception there is a health risk to first responders who come into contact with fentanyl overdoses, and that there are first responders and others hesitating to treat overdose patients because of that misperception.
The Sdso released a “public safety video” with body camera footage from the July 3 incident last Thursday and numerous outlets, including CNN, picked it up over the weekend. CNN’s video is no longer available, though that outlet has...

Keanu Reeves, in the snow, narrowly avoiding death from his corrupt diamond flogging friends? – I’ll take it!
A breezy, blizzard drenched Siberia consumes the screen making for chilly viewing of this romance come crime flick (emphasis on the romance part), albeit a pretty sprinkle of snow can’t save this one from inevitable eye-rolling doom; sorry Neo, you aren’t ‘The One’ here.
After gracing our screens and fully embodying John Wick’s calculated reckless, the never ageing Keanu takes on Lucas Hill; a diamond trader who seems to be in much deeper than he thinks with his supposed Russian business partners. When associate and ‘friend’, Pyotr (Boris Gulyarin) lets him down with an important client looming, it’s down to Luca’s charm and sheer luck to pull this deal off alone and get the hell out of dodge.
It seems there’s not a lot to do...

Reeves finds selling gems to the mob is trickier than he’d like in this violent romantic thriller, also starring Molly Ringwald
Keanu Reeves is back in action, after a fashion, in this drab downer romantic thriller – a less fighty, more arty version of John Wick from the indie director Matthew Ross (Frank & Lola). Fatally, the script requires Reeves, playing a black-market diamond trader, to do some serious acting over and above his usual stiff, stoical delivery of deadpan lines and punches.
Reeves plays Lucas Hill, an American visiting St Petersburg to flog $40m of rare blue diamonds to a Russian mobster. When his business associate vanishes with the ice, Lucas hotfoots it to Siberia on his tail, finding time to Facetime his wife (Molly Ringwald). I did wonder if pairing Reeves, 54, and Ringwald, 50, was an enlightened example of age-appropriate love interest casting. But no. In Siberia Reeves hooks up with bar owner Katya,...

Keanu Reeves may not appear in another “John Wick” movie until next year, but with “Siberia,” the moody action star gets to flex a different sort of muscle — his producing skills. Taking on double-duty as producer and star for the third time since 2010’s “Henry’s Crime,” Reeves has thrown his weight behind a project that fuses his instincts for suspense and comedy.
“It was a script that I helped develop so it was dear to me in a different way, and that’s part of the reason why I was producer on it,” Reeves told IndieWire. “Creatively, it was challenging because of the tones it mixes — it’s a thriller, it’s a romance, there’s some comedy, not quite comedy but humor in it, so I was really interested in the tonal complexity and ambition.”

Matthew Ross’ “Siberia” is the rare film involving diamond smuggling, international intrigue, double-crosses and Russian gangsters that might have actually been better off jettisoning all of those elements. Starring Keanu Reeves as Lucas Hill, an American diamond dealer who winds up in a remote corner of Siberia trying to salvage a botched deal, the film tries to use its b-movie framework as a jumping-off point into the sort of bleak romanticism that has powered auteurist thrillers from “The Conformist” to “The American.” But in the end, it can never decide what kind of film it wants to be, drifting into drab formlessness when it needs to find moments of poetry, and reverting to dull clichés when it wants to indulge its thriller instincts, winding up as frosty and uninviting as its setting.

For all the perceived masculinity surrounding the myth that is Keanu Reeves, there’s something immensely tender about his screen presence. He’s got a stone face, but hiding behind it is the melodramatic soul of a Shakespeare protagonist. He attacks drama like he’s ripping his heart out and screaming into the heavens how much that he loves. This feeling is present in all of his work, action or not. You might see the same man in My Own Private Idaho as you do in John Wick, but at least that man has a soul. At least, you can empathize with him.
Siberia, a new drama starring Reeves is acidic through and through. It’s about a cold man in a cold world, in a situation that is built to drain him of love. As a plot, it starts off simple enough with Reeve’s...

“I want you to do something for me,” says a steely femme fatale (Ana Ularu) to the married American diamond merchant (Keanu Reeves) she’s been screwing for a couple of days after their chance encounter in the Russian hinterlands: “Fuck me, right now, like you fuck your wife.” The man agrees. They make love in the missionary position. The woman asks him to grunt his wife’s name when he orgasms, and he agrees to that, too. It’s a strange scene, and one that’s shot with all the erotic power of a David Caruso movie from the ’90s, but it’s one of the only times that Matthew Ross’ (“Frank & Lola”) torpid and dysfunctional new thriller actually focuses on the part of the story it should be telling.

In the Matthew Ross-directed thriller Siberia, Keanu Reeves is Lucas Hill, a married American man who travels to Saint Petersburg, Russia for his latest mission in the diamond trade. Like John Wick, Hill is a very reserved, quiet professional who certainly knows how to operate a weapon, but make no mistake: Siberia is not an action film at all and soon puts its protagonist in a town in Siberia, where he gets temporarily stuck due to the bad weather. There, Lucas meets a local woman, Katya (Ana Ularu), and a whole different type of movie starts, focussing on the relationship between the two, though eventually the dangers of the black market of diamonds will catch up with their intense extramarital affair. Since Siberia opens in...

One of a myriad quasi-thrillers set overseas, featuring a bankable star, and centered on the convergence of commerce and crime, Siberia is an oddity. These drop onto DVD and on-demand on a weekly basis; most of them star Bruce Willis. The lead this time, however, is Keanu Reeves. And this alone guarantees that, at the very least, it is a film worth watching. However, as a wholly satisfying viewing experience, Siberia is a disappointment. But this is most certainly not typical direct-to-dvd fare, and not just because it will arrive in at least one theater. It is more ambitious, more interesting, more, well, Keanu-ey than that.
One major selling point in addition to the presence of Reeves: Siberia was written by Scott B. Smith, the Oscar-nominated writer of A Simple Plan. This is a high-caliber name, and it helps to explain how Reeves and Frank & Lola helmer Matthew Ross became...
