Some 30 years ago DC and Marvel produced a series of ads featuring their characters (except Superman) in one-page adventures hawking Hostess products. That campaign ran forever, so when we relaunched E-Man at First Comics I thought it would be fun to get people to do Hostess ad parodies featuring their creator-owned characters. John Byrne did Rog-2000, Max Collins and Terry Beatty did Mike Mist, Lee Marrs did Pudge Girl Blimp, Reed Waller did Omaha The Cat Dancer, and so on.
A few years later I was at DC Comics where I edited (interm-ly; Marv Wolfman was moving to the west coast and had some health issues) Teen Titans Spotlight. Mike Baron wrote a story featuring The Hawk (of the original Hawk and Dove) wherein the lead character uttered the epitaph “Bite My Twinkie!” Whereas it was completely in character, one of DC’s top-most executives took great offense at this.

Now that their comeback has been officially sanctioned by Mother Monster herself, No Doubt should not have a problem reclaiming the top of the charts.
The first single, “Settle Down,” from their highly anticipated sixth album, Push and Shove, will be released on July 16 with the album dropping just two short months later, on September 25. To refresh your memory, it’s been almost 11 years since the band released their last studio album, Rock Steady, and in the time since, they've released a greatest hits album, lead singer Gwen Stefani was sweetly inescapable as she embarked on a massively successful solo career and bassist Tony Kanal produced hits for artists including Pink, Shontelle and even Gwen. Guitarist Tom Dumont and drummer Adrian Young settled down and had a couple of children, as did Gwen and Tony, but apparently there are only so many times a rocker can watch...

A week before he died in 2006, author Mickey Spillane turned to his wife and said, “When I’m gone, there’s going to be a treasure hunt around here. Take everything you find and give it to Max – he’ll know what to do.”
“Max” is Max Allan Collins. He was, for a number of reasons, an ideal choice to be the keeper of the Spillane flame.
A fan of Spillane’s since he’d been a kid, Collins had met the mystery writer at a convention in the early 1980s. The connection developed into both friendship and regular collaboration. But Collins was no junior partner in the duo.
Born in Muscatine, Iowa in 1948, he’s been writing mysteries since he was a kid, eventually studying in the Iowa Writers’ Workshop at the University of Iowa, one of the most renowned writing programs in the country.

Two sequels to the fantastic and woefully underrated 2002 Tom Hanks film Road to Perdition were announced way back in 2008, and then nothing ever seemed to come of it. It should have been easy to get done. The original movie made a $181 million worldwide and only cost $80 million to make. There was a little profit there, and for the sequels they wouldn.t have had to pay big money to bring back actors like Tom Hanks and Jude Law since, almost everyone of consequence in the first movie was dead by the end. Better still the material for sequels already existed. The film was based on the first in a series of graphic novels written by Max Allan Collins. Yet somehow, the thing seemed to go nowhere. Until now that is. Things may be moving again. Max Collins tells Movieweb that they .seem to be right on the brink. of signing...

Emily Osment's debut album will be released across United States on March 9, 2010, according to USA Today. The effort, which is yet to be titled, reportedly will be produced by Matt Squire (Taking Back Sunday, Boys Like Girls, Panic! At the Disco).
Explaining about the materials she is currently recording for the project, Emily confirms the songs are "definitely pop, but with an alternative-rock edge." She adds, "It's music you'll want to play in the car with the windows rolled down."
The Lilly Truscott of "Hannah Montana" is said to contribute behind songwriting desk for most of the songs in the upcoming album. She will collaborate with Tom Higgenson of the Plain White T's and Eve 6's members, Max Collins and Tony Fagenson. Furthermore, a new song "All the Way Up" is rumored to hit Radio Disney this August with an accompanying video, which features band Push Play, to be debuted later on.

The novel adaptation of the live action feature film G.I. Joe Rise Of Cobra from Paramount Pictures is set to be released June 23.
Written by Max Collins, the novel hits shelves over one full month before the film premieres. Why do I feel like this is going to be another Phantom Menace moment for me? The book was great, I couldn't hear Jar Jar's voice and there weren't any fart jokes...
