Thirty years after “Cheers” came to an end, the cast and creatives got back together on Friday night, courtesy of the Atx TV Festival in Austin, Texas. The reunion panel, hosted by Variety‘s Michael Schneider, included co-creators James Burrows, Les Charles and Glen Charles and actors Ted Danson, George Wendt and John Ratzenberger.
During the conversation, the iconic creators reflected on the making of the show and the cast opened up about how they joined the series and how it’s affected their lives over the years.
“Teddy and Shelly auditioned together and they had chemistry that only makes writing better,” Burrows said of casting Danson and Shelley Long, who portrayed Diane Chambers, Sam’s love interest for five seasons.
For Danson, he praised Long, who wasn’t in attendance: “I don’t think we’d seen a character like that since Lucille Ball. I do believe I was on ‘Cheers’ because of Shelley,...

"More often than you think, the culprit is right under your nose." Vertical Entertainment has revealed an official trailer for an indie dark comedy called Susie Searches, opening in select theaters this July. The film premiered at the 2022 Toronto Film Festival last year, and it also stopped by the Palm Springs, Santa Barbara, and Cleveland Film Festivals. An awkward college student with a failing true-crime podcast seizes the opportunity to bolster her popularity by solving the mysterious disappearance of the campus heartthrob. It's yet another riff on the "true crime" craze now, specifically a podcast, and how far people will go.T his trailer drops a big reveal - but I think it's necessary to bring more attention to it. The film stars Kiersey Clemons as Susie, Alex Wolff, Jim Gaffigan, Rachel Sennott, Ken Marino, and David Walton. I also recommend watching Bj Novak's Vengeance, about the pitfalls of chasing these kind of stories.

The third season premiere of Power Book II: Ghost drew the biggest opening weekend audience ever for a Starz series, the premium cable outlet says.
The show’s March 17 debut brought in 5.8 million viewers across all platforms over its first three days, according to Nielsen and internal data. That makes it the biggest premiere weekend ever for a Starz original series.
Though Starz didn’t break down viewers by platform, based on viewing patterns for other premium series, a large majority of the audience likely streamed the Ghost premiere. The show’s on-air premiere brought in 362,000 viewers, per Nielsen — just 6 percent of the three-day total. That’s in keeping with shows like HBO’s Euphoria, Showtime’s Yellowjackets, and Starz’s own P-Valley, whose initial, on-air viewership makes up just a small fraction of the total.
The 5.8 million viewers also includes multiple replays on the Starz cable channel over the weekend.

Creatives are burning with rage over Hollywood’s hottest new trend: streaming platforms’ habit of canceling finished films and TV series before they’ve aired or pulling projects from platforms and shelving them indefinitely.
The Hollywood Reporter has been asking around about the effects of consolidation, budget cuts and tax write-offs kneecapping projects like Batgirl, Snowpiercer, Scoob!: Holiday Haunt and Westworld, among others. It’s happening all over town as entertainment companies have been forced to contend with consolidation, inflation, a possible recession and a constant chase for subscribers.
“It’s been horrifying,” prolific creator Rian Johnson (Glass Onion) tells THR. “The fact that it’s becoming common practice is terrible and adds to the awfulness. In the history of the business, there has been a constant evolution of horrible things.”
Last month, THR reported that two Netflix feature films were up for grabs after the streamer opted not to distribute the films.

Power Book II: Ghost Season 3 is poised to be the most dramatic season in franchise history.
Starz dropped the full-length trailer for the new season Thursday, and it looks like things are more intense than ever.
According to Starz, the new season kicks off with Tariq St. Patrick determined to get his trust, get back to his family, and get out of the game for good.
The emergence of a ruthless new connect interrupts Tariq’s plans to reunite with Tasha and Yaz and puts him, Brayden, and Effie back into business with the Tejadas as they’re challenged to move more weight than ever before.
When Brayden brings Tariq in as an intern at his family’s hedge fund Weston Holdings, the drug business expands beyond Stansfield and the streets onto Wall Street, while Tariq is also shown an alternate, legitimate path to success.

In a surprising move, Netflix has decided not to release the completed genre films The Inheritance (directed by Alejandro Brugués) and House/Wife (directed by Danis Goulet) as Netflix Originals. Thankfully, this isn’t a situation like Warner Bros. deciding to scrap Batgirl instead of going through with its release. The filmmakers behind these two projects will be able to try to find a new home for them… and the search is already underway. The Hollywood Reporter hasn’t been able to dig up any information on why Netflix decided not to release either of the two movies.
Scripted by Joe Russo and Chris Lamont and produced by Paul Schiff, The Inheritance stars Bob Gunton, Peyton List, Austin Stowell, Briana Middleton, David Walton, Reese Alexander, and Rachel Nichols. A trend among entertainment companies as Hollywood continues its will-they/won’t-they relationship with a possible recession is the unloading of completed projects. Hosted by Hannah-Jones, “The 1619 Project” seeks to reframe the country’s history by placing the consequences of slavery and the contributions of Black Americans at the very center of our national narrative. The episodes — “Democracy,” “Race,” “Music,” “Capitalism,” “Fear” and “Justice” — are adapted from essays of Hannah-Jones “The 1619 Project: A New Origin Story” and examine how the legacy of slavery shapes different aspects of contemporary American life.

It was executive produced by Hannah-Jones, director Roger Ross Williams, editor Caitlin Roper, Kathleen Lingo, The New York Times’ editorial director for film and television and Oprah Winfrey.

Good news, "Power Book II: Ghost" fans. After what feels like forever, the hit spinoff's third season finally has a premiere date - which means we're one step closer to finding out what happens after season two's dramatic cliffhanger finale. Additionally, on Dec. 15, Starz unveiled all-new details about season three, including a short teaser that shows Michael Rainey Jr.'s Tariq getting blood on his hands (literally) as secrets, lies, and more trouble threaten to shake his world up yet again.
"Power Book II: Ghost" got the green light for season three around this time last year, not even halfway through season two. It's obvious the second installment of the Power franchise has become a major hit, almost as big as its predecessor, and much of that has to do with Michael Rainey Jr.'s Tariq St. Patrick anchoring the series.

Susie Wallis (Kiersey Clemons) has never met a mystery she couldn’t solve. At least not when it comes to those that populate the crime books her mother (Jammie Patton’s Anne) read to her as a child. It got to the point where she wondered if they should stop reading them altogether, but Susie refused. She didn’t care that she always guessed the culprit. All she cared about was spending time with Mom. So when Anne’s Ms diagnosis advanced enough to take away her speech, Susie took over reading duties to keep the tradition alive. And she even took things one step further by choosing to make her mother’s wish come true: using her knack for literary detective work to do good in the world and become famous.

More like a mayonnaise sandwich on Wonder Bread than the at-least-mildly-crunchy breakfast cereal of its title, “Eat Wheaties!” is a movie whose blandness ultimately triumphs over its annoyance — but only by a hair. This is the kind of underdog comedy in which you soon want to kick the dog.
Starring Tony Hale of “Arrested Development” and “Veep” as a middle-aged dweeb whose claim of a past celebrity friendship improbably snowballs to ruin his life, Scott Abramovitch’s directorial debut aims for the tenor of something like “The 40-Year-Old Virgin” minus the raunch. But its content and execution are innocuous to the point of tedium, while the protagonist is no undervalued sweetie but the kind of grating personality that can clear a room. Screen Media is launching the film April 30 on thirteen U.S. screens as well as VOD.

Sometimes you just gotta get the band back together for a quick trip down memory lane. Updated with Living Biblically’s cancellation: No surprise here — there will be no second seasons for CBS’ freshman series 9Jkl, Me, Myself & I, Living Biblically and Wisdom Of the Crowd. Neither series was expected to be renewed. All have been either pulled from the schedule or moved or not ordered for Back Nine.
Of the four, the only series that still had a pulse was 9Jkl, co-created by Mark Feuerstein and Dana Klein inspired by Feuerstein’s real-life experiences. The series was a modest but relatively steady ratings performer throughout the season. It launched to a so-so 8.2 million viewers and a 1.6 in adults 18-49 (Live+Sd) behind Big Bang on Monday and ended its four-week run in the Monday 8:30 Pm slot with a 1.4 in the demo and 7.2 million viewers. Since moving to the 9:30 Pm berth with no Big Bang on Monday, 9Jkl posted a 0.8 in 18-49. In L...
