For Cameron, Cirque Du Soleil: Worlds Away .was a dream come true. I had been talking to them for some time about doing something in 3D because it’s never been done. How lucky to be working with the Cirque family, to have that talent create such an emotional performance for this film. Because their death-defying acts require such incredible skill and nerve, we felt it was so important to show the cabling, everything supporting that human ability.

Further to our story in 2010, Paramount Pictures has now acquired worldwide distribution rights to the first James Cameron-produced "Cirque du Soleil" 3D feature film, "Cirque du Soleil Worlds Away", featuring performances from various "Cirque" productions, written and directed by Andrew Adamson ("Shrek").
Cameron produces with Adamson, Aron Warner and Cirque’s Martin Bolduc, Ed Jones and Cary Granat.
"The coupling of filmmaker James Cameron’s groundbreaking 3D visual accomplishments and Andrew Adamson’s beautiful direction, combined with a timeless original story written especially for this movie, will make for a truly amazing moviegoeing experience for audiences of all ages," said Paramount Pictures Vice Chairman Rob Moore.
Quebec-based "Cirque du Soleil" entered into a partnership in 2010, with Cameron and Adamson, in association with Reel FX Entertainment, with the intention to design, develop and produce 'immersive' theatrical 3D projects inspired by 'Cirque du Soleil'.

You’ll have to forgive my insolence, but the James Cameron-produced, Andrew Adamson-directed 3D Cirque du Soleil film slipped from my mind over the past 13 months. Though I was reminded of it in a pretty positive way (or, as positively as one could take this news): A press release tells us that Paramount has acquired the project, titled Cirque du Soleil Worlds Away.
We aren’t told anything about the story, actors, or wacky contortions in this announcement, but we can nevertheless expect “a truly amazing moviegoeing experience for audiences of all ages.” Even without that information at hand, I’m pretty confident in saying this is a project I’ll only lend some attention toward — primarily because of Cameron‘s technical work in the 3D department. A new movie from the director of Shrek and Narnia just isn’t in my wheelhouse of interest.

James Cameron likes to work with the biggest possible canvas in whatever narrative mode he's in, as evidenced by the expanding scope of his Terminator films, then movies like Titanic and Avatar. As far as physical performance goes, you don't get much bigger than Cirque Du Soleil (as far as name recognition goes, at least) and so Cameron working with the company seems pretty natural. You might remember that James Cameron was working as producer and 3D consultant on a filmed Cirque Du Soleil feature that Andrew Adamson (Shrek, The Chronicles of Narnia) was writing and directing. We first heard about this [1] way back in December of 2010, and news has been quiet on the project since then. Now there is some new info, primarily that Paramount has picked up worldwide rights to the film. The studio press release is below. The info that isn't in the press release is that...
