Before Savile died, a photograph emerged of Sutcliffe shaking the hand of boxer Frank Bruno during his visit to Broadmoor, with Savile in the background of the shot. According to Bruno, this was a sick trick played on Bruno by Savile, who had introduced him to Sutcliffe and only afterwards told him who Sutcliffe was. Bruno said he wouldn't have shaken his hand if he'd known.
- According to an article on the Manchester Evening News website, he didn't receive the nickname "The Yorkshire Ripper" until he killed his eighth victim, Helen Rytka, in January 1978, which was his second murder in ten days.
