The West Ham and Tottenham striker considers a rags-to-riches career that began as a schoolkid, and the scandals that followed, with unusual openness
On the face of it Jermain Defoe, former Tottenham and England goal ace, is perhaps a slightly unlikely figure to get his own documentary, even in this era of wall-to-wall streaming events. He never quite achieved the super-elite status of his England colleagues Wayne Rooney or Steven Gerrard; nor has he established a similarly fond niche in the public imagination as Peter Crouch, whom he partnered up front at both Portsmouth and Tottenham. In fact, Defoe’s story, as outlined here, is in some ways the rags-to-riches tale common to many footballers in the modern era, though perhaps more turbocharged than most given his obvious precocity as a schoolkid.
Defoe offers a disarming kind of honesty, mulling over the effect on his life of his largely absent father who,...

Pre-sales to Dr, Svt and Nrk have already been struck for Rainbow Warrior and a streamer and UK broadcast partner will soon be announced. The feature charts happenings in 1985 when two bombs exploded in the port of Auckland, New Zealand, sinking the ship of a small environmental group in the dead of night. London, July 27 (Ians) Liverpool sold club captain Jordan Henderson to Saudi Pro League side Al Ettifaq for a fee of around 12 million pounds (15.5 million U.S. dollars) on Thursday.
The move puts an end to the 33-year-old’s 12 years at Liverpool, during which he made 492 appearances and won eight trophies, including the Premier League, Champions League, Fa Cup and World Club Cup, a Xinhua report said.
With the move, the midfielder will link up with former Liverpool legend, Steven Gerrard, who is the coach at Al Ettifaq, after previously coaching Glasgow Rangers and Aston Villa.
Henderson is believed to have spoken with Liverpool coach, Jurgen Klopp about how much game time he could expect at Anfield this season before making his move.
With Liverpool looking to revitalize their midfield after last season’s disappointing campaign, he would have played a less important role than last year.

New Delhi, July 27 (Ians) Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has posted a goodbye video on social media, confirming his exit from the Premier League club after a 12-year stay.
The midfielder joined the Reds from Sunderland in a deal worth 20m pounds in June 2011 and made 492 appearances for the club, scoring 33 goals and registering 57 assists.
The 33-year-old has reportedly agreed a deal with Saudi Arabian side Al-Ettifaq, who are managed by ex-Liverpool captain and his former teammate Steven Gerrard.
Writing on Instagram, Henderson said: “It’s hard to put these last 12 years into words and it’s even harder to say goodbye. I will always be a Red. Until the day I die. Thank you for everything. You’ll never walk alone.”
Henderson made 360 top-flight appearances for Liverpool and captained them for nearly nine years, from September 2014. He led them to the 2019/20 title as the Reds lifted their first Premier League Trophy.

Arnold Schwarzenegger has just about accomplished it all: three Mr. Universe titles, a two-term stint as governor of California, over $5 billion at the global box office…But Arnold hasn’t done something so many major seasoned actors have, which is appear in a Marvel blockbuster. But that doesn’t mean he has entirely ruled it out…
Speaking with Men’s Health, Arnold Schwarzenegger said he would have no problem joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, under one condition: “If the role is right!” Arnold joining the MCU? Now that would kick some ice!
Of course, Arnold Schwarzenegger does have a brief history with superhero movies. The most infamous was his turn as Mr. Freeze in Batman & Robin, which, despite its reputation, Arnold isn’t ashamed of, once saying, “I don’t regret it at all. I felt that the character was interesting and two movies before that one Joel Schumacher was at his height.

Bradley Cooper may be taking on one of Steve McQueen’s most famous roles in a new Steven Spielberg film.
The actor and director will reportedly play San Francisco cop Frank Bullitt in a movie based on the 1968 classic.
According to Deadline, McQueen’s son, Chad, and granddaughter, Molly, will executive produce alongside Spielberg.
Bullitt gave McQueen one of his most memorable characters, and is renowned for featuring one of cinema’s most impressive car chase scenes.
Spielberg will direct the film from a script that’s being written by Josh Singer, who was behind Spotlight and the Spielberg-directed The Post.
Deadline claims that the filmmaker has been talking to Cooper about the role since the pandemic.
It will mark their first actor-director collaboration, although they had a near-miss after Spielberg stepped away from American Sniper.
The film was ultimately directed by Clint Eastwood and earned Cooper his third Oscar nomination.

London, Oct 29 (Ians) Liverpool will aim to reach an unbeaten milestone at Anfield when they face Leeds United in the Premier League on Saturday.
The Reds can extend their run of successive home games without a loss to 30 with a win or draw against Jesse Marsch’s team. It would be their joint-sixth-longest such run in club history. In the 29 matches during the streak so far, Jurgen Klopp’s side have won 22 times and registered 17 clean sheets.
The last meeting between the sides was the corresponding fixture of 2021-22 – Liverpool won 6-0 to record their biggest ever victory over Leeds.
Joel Matip and Virgil van Dijk were on the scoresheet that night – it was the first time both centre-backs in a Reds XI had scored in the same league game since September 1968, when Ron Yeats and Tommy Smith did so against Leicester City.

London, Oct 28 (Ians) Defending champions Manchester City visit an improving Leicester City, while Arsenal take on Nottingham Forrest, and new Aston Villa coach Unai Emery could reflect on what might have been when his new club visits Newcastle in the Premier League this weekend.
Consecutive wins have eased the pressure on Leicester City coach Brendan Rodgers, but his side now faces a difficult home game against second-placed Manchester City in the first match of the weekend.
Pep Guardiola’s side could be without goal-machine Erling Haaland, who was substituted at halftime in midweek with a foot injury and his absence could help Leicester continue to improve their defensive record.
Chelsea coach Graham Potter returns to face Brighton seven weeks after leaving them to move to Stamford Bridge. Chelsea have improved since his arrival, while Potter’s replacement, Roberto De Zerbi has yet to win a game, with just two points...

London, Oct 24 (Ians) Arsenal’s lead at the top of the Premier League was reduced to two points when they were held to a 1-1 draw away to Southampton.
Arsenal got off to a confident start that was rewarded when Granit Xhaka put them ahead with a low finish on Sunday evening, but after suffering in the first half, Southampton recovered after the break.
Stuart Armstrong equalised after a flowing move after 65 minutes, and although Martin Odegaard thought he had scored a late winner for the visitors, the ball had previously gone out of play, reports Xinhua.
Newcastle United claimed a 2-1 win away to Tottenham to climb up to fourth in the table.
Callum Wilson opened the scoring in the 31st minute after a Var check confirmed he hadn’t fouled Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris. Miguel Almiron doubled the lead 10 minutes later after beating Lloris at his near post.

London, Oct 23 (Ians) Granit Xhaka’s first-half goal went in vain as Arsenal stumbled to a 1-1 draw at Southampton, creating an opportunity for teams to inch closer to the Premier League leaders.
Xhaka netted his fourth goal of the season, sweetly connecting with Ben White’s cross, to give us an early lead. But the Saints were much improved after the interval, drawing level through Stuart Armstrong’s first goal of the season on 65 minutes, as the hosts took the game to Arsenal.
Arsenal went into the match with a one-point lead over second-placed Manchester City, who had reduced the margin with a win on Saturday. Sunday’s draw left them two points ahead of Pep Guardiola’s side, who had a chance of overtaking the Gunners in case they falter again.

London, Oct 21 (Ians) The big news ahead of the Premier League matches this weekend is not about who will be playing but who won’t be taking part after Manchester United announced on Thursday that Cristiano Ronaldo had been dropped from the squad for Saturday’s visit to Chelsea after another display of petulance.
Ronaldo’s decision to walk down the touchline and down the tunnel on Wednesday night when it became clear he wasn’t going to get on as his side beat Tottenham 2-0.
The fact that United have been playing their best football without the Portuguese means that in terms of performance, Ronaldo probably won’t be missed at Stamford Bridge for what promises to be a thrilling match.

London, Sep 2 (Ians) The Merseyside derby between Everton and Liverpool kicks off the weekend in the Premier League in a key game for both sides.
Everton have not won yet this season and although they have shown some resilience in recent matches, defeat to their neighbours would make life even harder for coach Frank Lampard.

Manchester City visit Aston Villa, with Pep Guardiola’s men scoring goals at will and Erling Haaland netting consecutive hat-tricks.
That must be a huge worry for Aston Villa coach Steven Gerrard, who is another coach feeling the pressure. Villa’s defensive worries aren’t helping Gerrard, and with Diego Carlos still out injured,...

London, Aug 30 (Ians) There are five Premier League matches on Wednesday which promise to show just how high some teams can aim this season and perhaps increase the pressure on others.
Liverpool’s home match against Newcastle United is the pick of the bunch as Liverpool try to build on their 9-0 thrashing of Bournemouth at the weekend.
Jurgen Klopp still has a long injury list limiting his options for squad rotations and it’s hard to see him making more than cosmetic changes to the starting 11.
Newcastle travel after Allan Saint-Maximin’s spectacular volley gave them a 1-1 draw away to Wolves, but the talented forward will miss the visit to Anfield with a thigh injury.
That should allow club-record signing Alexander Isak to make his debut in a match which will show if Newcastle can mount a serious challenge for the top-six this campaign.

London, Aug 15 (Ians) Steven Gerrard’s worst fears have been realized with the news Diego Carlos ruptured his Achilles tendon during Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Everton.

“We’re going to send him for an Mri scan but it doesn’t look good. I’m extremely happy with the win and the performance but, if we happen to lose someone who’s so important to us, that could tarnish the win,” he said.

Milan, March 19 (Ians) Substitute Paul Pogba struck just minutes after his half-time introduction to give Manchester United a 1-0 win at AC Milan to progress 2-1 on aggregate to the last eight of the Europa League.
Midfielder Pogba, on his return from injury, fired in high at the near post in the 49th minute on Thursday to give United the honours in the battle between former European champions, Dpa reported.
United led the first leg at Old Trafford until being denied victory by an injury-time equalizer but made no mistake in the return despite a lethargic first half.

A revelatory documentary about the Liverpool stalwart, whose explanation of his career ups and downs make for fascinating viewing
Apart from a somewhat redundant top-and-tail sequence in which Steven Gerrard is seen putting his feet up in a plush La pad as he plays out his final months for the La Galaxy, there’s a lot to admire about Sam Blair’s profile of the former Liverpool midfield dynamo who is currently embarked on the Herculean task of restoring Rangers to their former glory in the Scottish Premier League. Football documentaries often sacrifice quite a bit in return for access to their subjects (and there’s certainly significant amounts of “legend/icon/genius” burbling in Make Us Dream), but it’s Gerrard’s own readiness to open up and reveal something of the agony behind the permascowl he was famous for as a player that marks this film out.

The one-time Wimbledon golden girl is in danger of being remembered for this sorry chapter, rather than the five Grand Slam titles that have made her a household name. Earlier this summer, I won tickets to HUSHfest, one of a series of silent dance concerts at the end of the Santa Monica Pier. The setting was spectacular: 30 feet above the Pacific Ocean and 500 yards beyond the edge of the continent, surrounded by waves, a cooling breeze, and a perfect pastel sunset behind Malibu’s oceanside hills.
I strapped on wireless headphones, chose between two audio channels streaming music from different DJs, and began to move my body. Given the setting, the chance to dance in it and a soundtrack of awesome deep tracks of obscure world music, it was a pretty sweet night. Until I took the headphones off.

The Premier League has always been known for its high intensity since its formation in 1992. No other league in Europe can offer the high-tempo of play that England’s top division can, and because of this it has attracted the cream of the crop of talent. With the best talent comes the biggest rivalries and the most passion, and inevitably, that often spills over.
The men in the middle have certainly had their hands full over the last 24 years in an attempt to keep the game as free-flowing as possible, but at times the big egos and rivalries that have formed have made it a near-impossible task. Consider trying to handle the latest round of Roy Keane versus Patrick Vieira to name just one.
While bone-crunching, eye-watering tackles a plenty over the years, fans have often had to look at replays through the gaps in their fingers,...

Having inherited a squad still arguably reeling from the departure of Luis Suarez (thanks to an improbable injury crisis and the long-term problem of Daniel Sturridge’s availability, you’d be forgiven for thinking that Jurgen Klopp would want to get his first part season as Liverpool manager out of the way without further incident.
That German has a striking crisis is well publicised – though that might be eased with Sturridge’s impending return to action – but he has more holes in his squad that need to be plugged. The Reds leak too many goals for a legitimate contender for the Premier League and for all their attacking flair they lack a defensive midfielder.
The latter issue may be dealt with long-term by the acquisition of Red Star’s defensive midfield starlet Marko Grujic – who is currently undergoing a medical ahead of a permanent deal – and according to Sky Sports,...

Since the Premier League began back in 1992, we’ve been treated to some extraordinary talent. Whether it be gifted goal-scorers like Thierry Henry, cat-like shot-stoppers like Peter Schmeichel or midfield maestros like Steven Gerrard, England has been truly blessed with some of the world’s best.
Football is no fairytale land, however. Not all remarkably talented individuals go on to do great things, and not all go on to have a well-sustained career. For every player that made it to the top, there are dozens that never quite made the grade in England’s top flight. It only takes one tackle, one turn or one traumatic experience to bring an abrupt end to any player’s footballing journey – regardless of their reputation, potential and talent.
Who really remembers the ‘could-have-beens’ though? Sporting history tends not to care for those that could have achieved amazing things, but fell...

A sea of red shirts overpowered the tangerine orange of the Brisbane Roar as Liverpool fans blasted out their spine tingling rendition of ‘You Will Never Walk Alone’ that echoed around Lang Park. Brendan Rodgers looked unfazed by the harmonic battle cry and selected four of his new signings in his first eleven as well as Divock Origi who was out on loan at Lille last season.
Joe Gomez started at left back, Nathaniel Clyne at right back, James Milner played alongside Jordan Henderson in the middle of midfield and Danny Ings, Adam Lallana and Origi competed a 4-3-3 formation. The system didn’t look entirely comfortable and despite the Reds dominating most of the possession their counter attacks were staggered and would have looked more fluid playing a 4-1-2-1-2 that would have gave new signing Ings more comfort than being isolated on the left flank.

He’s totally soaking up the Hollywood scene … obviously getting acclimated to La’s glitzy style and the flashes from all the cameras. Too...
