The director of Cruella and I, Tonya is in line to make one of the key films in the new-look DC Universe – Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow – according to reports.
To date, we’ve heard a few promising nuggets of information about Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow, one of several films planned for James Gunn’s new-look DC Universe. The character is set to be a departure from previous takes on the character that we’ve seen from actors such as Helen Slater and Sasha Calle.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, we now have a director in place too, and the good news continues. Craig Gillespie is reportedly in negotiations to helm the film and this feels like a really good match. Whether he helms offbeat movies such as Dumb Money or I, Tonya or big studio flicks like Cruella, Gillespie brings a real verve and playfulness to his films and given...

The roster of directors aboard the DC universe projects being overseen by James Gunn and Peter Safran is growing. According to Deadline, I, Tonya/Cruella director Craig Gillespie is now nailing down the finer points of a deal to direct Supergirl.
While it has yet to be officially confirmed – these days, that often tends to be via James Gunn on social media, and at time of writing he hasn't mentioned it – Gillespie is surely a good shout to handle the movie, which will star House Of The Dragon's Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, Superman's cousin. We're promised a harder-edged Kara than in the recent TV series; this take on the character was raised on a barren rock chipped from the destroyed Krypton, who sees everyone around her die before reaching Earth.

Say what you will about superhero fatigue in recent months, but there's no denying that James Gunn is assembling quite a list of talent for his new DC Universe. Even though he's right in the middle of filming for "Superman", that hasn't stopped him and co-ceo Peter Safran from looking to the future for another superhero movie coming down the pipeline. After news broke earlier this year that "House of the Dragon" star Millie Alcock would be suiting up as Superman's superpowered cousin, the upcoming "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" film now has its director. That's maybe not the order of hiring we'd usually expect to see, but welcome to franchise filmmaking, folks!

“I, Tonya” director Craig Gillespie is in talks to direct the upcoming “Supergirl” film at Warner Bros.’ DC Studios.
The film, titled “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,” is based on the DC comics run of the same name by Tom King and Bilquis Evely. It’s set to shoot later this year, after James Gunn’s “Superman” wraps filming. “House of the Dragon” breakout Milly Alcock will star in the titular role.
Alcock won the role after an extensive casting process during which Gunn and co-ceo Peter Safran flew multiple actors, including Meg Donnelly, to Atlanta for onscreen auditions on the “Superman: Legacy” set.
“Milly was the First person I brought up to Peter for this role, well over a year ago, when I had only read the comics,” Gunn said on social media upon her casting. “I was watching ‘House of the Dragon’ and thought she might have the edge,...

It’s up, up and away for director Craig Gillespie, who is in talks to helm Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
The filmmaker joins James Gunn (Superman) and Andy Muschietti (the Batman feature The Brave and the Bold) among the filmmakers building out the slate of projects for DC Studios, the Warner Bros. division led by Gunn and Peter Safran.
With Gillespie, DC gains a tried and true helmer known for putting a grounded yet stylish spin on projects such as Disney’s Cruella, the skating drama I, Tonya and TV’s Pam & Tommy. He was last in theaters with the GameStop movie Dumb Money.
Supergirl stars House of the Dragon‘s Milly Alcock, who will play Kara Zor-El, the cousin of Superman. The feature is inspired by the Tom King and Bilquis Evely comic and will depart from the earnest take on the character audiences may know from the CW Supergirl series.

The trailer for Max’s They Called Him Mostly Harmless teases the disturbing true story of the hunt for a deceased hiker’s identity. Premiering on the streaming service on February 8, 2024, the bizarre tale was directed by Emmy winner Patricia E. Gillespie (The Fire That Took Her) and features individuals directly involved in figuring out the mystery man’s identity.
“I was drawn to this story because of its potential to help us think more deeply about what it means to live in the digital age,” explained director Gillespie. “I hope we’ve made a film that manages to both honor the citizen detectives who worked tirelessly to identify Mostly Harmless, while encouraging audiences to get involved in the issue of unidentified persons.”
Max offers this description of the documentary:
“When an unidentified hiker is found deceased in the Florida wilderness, authorities release a sketch. Multiple hikers call in claiming to have met the man.

Melbourne, Sep 3 (Ians) Rashid Khan, Harry Brook, Quinton De Kock and Tom Curran headline a list of 21 overseas players selected in the second edition of the Bbl overseas draft. Sunday’s draft saw 374 players from 29 countries put their names forward for selection in eight squads ahead of Bbl season 13.
Round one was full of excitement and key retention picks, with seven Clubs selecting Platinum players. Melbourne Stars attempted to use their first pick to recruit Rashid, the world’s best T20 bowler, from the Adelaide Strikers, before he was retained for a seventh straight season by the club in blue.
“I wouldn’t have been allowed back into South Australia (if we didn’t pick Rashid). It was a no-brainer for us. For any team, if Rash is available you would look to pick him… he is the best spinner in the world,” said Jason Gillespie, Strikers’ head coach, on buying back Rashid.

Paul Dano has Wall Street melting down in the first trailer for Dumb Money, the upcoming Sony dramedy about a real-life YouTuber who took on billionaire hedge fund managers with a short squeeze, or countering bearish trades, of GameStop’s stock.
“You got rich dudes pissing in their pants right now,” Dano’s character, Keith Gill, is told in the trailer. The David vs. Goliath tale has Gill and fellow retail traders turning GameStop, the brick-and-mortar video game store, into a hot stock after big hedge funds took heavy short positions in the company’s shares, betting their price would continue to fall.
As major Wall Street funds fight back, the Dumb Money trailer centers on Gill in the middle of an Internet stock trading frenzy. With his life savings invested in the GameStop stock and on the line, his social media posts on on Reddit’s r/wallstreetbets forum online start blowing up,...

Excuse me while I put my feet up, burn one, and bask in the glow of executives getting screwed over by their own hubris. Why am I lounging? I just watched Sony’s trailer for Dumb Money, the Craig Gillespie-directed comedy-drama retelling the GameStop stock debacle that sent several fat cats to their financial ruin. The Dumb Money red-band trailer features Paul Dano as Keith Gill, the financial analyst who invested his life savings into a failing GameStop stock that eventually made him (and others) a millionaire. Gill’s story is a wild one, filled with twists and turns. Gillespie’s new film explores the YouTube sensation’s story, with both sides incurring blowback from a dangerous numbers game.

Thirteen years ago, Sony released “The Social Network,” an adaptation of Ben Mezrich’s nonfiction book “The Accidental Billionaires” about the rise of Facebook. This September, the studio has once again turned one of Mezirch’s nonfiction books into a sprawling fact-based drama about tech and money. That book, “The Antisocial Network,” has been adapted by writers Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo into the new film “Dumb Money.”
Directed by Craig Gillespie, “Dumb Money” travels all the way back to 2021 and the Gamestop stock saga that made headlines around the world and shook up the financial industry. Here’s the synopsis for the film provided by Sony:
“‘Dumb Money’ is the ultimate David vs. Goliath tale, based on the insane true story of everyday people who flipped the script on Wall Street and got rich by turning GameStop into the world’s hottest company. In the middle of everything...

Director Craig Gillespie is taking audiences back to 2021 with the first trailer for his latest film, “Dumb Money.” The film, according to the official synopsis, “is the ultimate David vs. Goliath tale, based on the insane true story of everyday people who flipped the script on Wall Street and got rich by turning GameStop into the world’s hottest company.
In the middle of everything is regular guy Keith Gill (Paul Dano), who starts it all by sinking his life savings into the stock and posting about it. When his social posts start blowing up, so does his life and the lives of everyone following him. As a stock tip becomes a movement, everyone gets rich – until the billionaires fight back, and both sides find their worlds turned upside down.”
Dano, coming off his role in Steven Spielberg’s “The Fablemans” last year, is at the center of the trailer.

The official trailer for Sony’s “Dumb Money” has dropped, shedding light on how a group of amateur investors artificially increased the stock value of GameStop, the popular video game retailer.
The short squeeze occurred in January 2021 after Reddit users on a page called “Wall Street Bets” united to catalyze a market explosion. As a result, significant hedge funds and independent short sellers incurred devastating financial loss.

Hazlewood had missed Australia’s tour of India due to a left achilles tendon issue, which delayed his arrival in Ipl 2023. He then left the tournament after playing only three games due to a side issue.
Recently, Hazlewood had said that he is nearing full fitness to play in the Wtc final against India starting from June 7 at The Oval in London. He had also missed a majority of the last two Australian home summers due to side strains.
Boland, on the other hand, is coming off a ten-week break since his last outing via the Sheffield Shield final in March. “As you can tell, there’s a writers strike on, so I didn’t write shit,” Taika Waititi joked upon grabbing the mic at The Hollywood Reporter’s second annual Raising Our Voices luncheon on Wednesday, teasing he initially had chatGPT take a first pass at his speech and it quickly pointed out Hollywood’s issues in diversity and representation. “Now if AI can do that in eight seconds and it gets it, what’s taking so long? This thing can tell me what the problem is and what we need to do to fix it in eight seconds, and there’s a lot of people in this town who still don’t get it and still kind of refuse to get it and want to be told.”
Waititi, who also appeared on this week’s THR cover, served as keynote speaker for the luncheon, where Eva Longoria and Niecy Nash-Betts were honored as 2023 Trailblazers.

Freddie Prinze Jr. isn’t eager to return to the “Scooby-Doo” franchise.
In a recent interview with TooFab, the 47-year-old actor was quick to turn down the prospect of reuniting with his wife, Sarah Michelle Gellar, as well as Matthew Lillard and Linda Cardellini for a third film playing Mystery Incorporated.
“It wouldn’t be something I would do,” Prinze said. “I have zero interest. I mean, it was tricky. It wouldn’t be for me, man.”
The actor clarified that his thoughts on the matter come down to the studio, rather than the project itself. The first “Scooby-Doo” (2002) and its 2004 sequel, “Monsters Unleashed,” were both distributed by Warner Bros.
“There was just so much bait and switch on the first one,” Prinze continued. “The studio was not honest with me in any way, shape, or form… It wasn’t the best. I think I’ve been on two jobs...

Based on Lois Duncan's 1973 novel, Jim Gillespie's 1997 thriller "I Know What You Did Last Summer" was one of the first major players in the brief post-"Scream" slasher revival. In terms of its structure, aesthetics, and dialogue, "Summer" bore more than a passing resemblance to Wes Craven's film from the year previous; it helped that both films were written by star screenwriter Kevin Williamson.
"Summer" is about a quartet of friends from a small fishing village who are enjoying their last summer together before leaving to go to college. While driving along the beach, they accidentally run over a vagrant. Rather than tell anyone, they drag their victim to the water, intending to throw him in. The vagrant isn't yet dead and begins to fight back. In a panic, they thwack him on the head and drop him in the water anyway. One year later, wracked by guilt and no longer speaking,...

Freddie Prinze Jr. might be considering a return to the “I Know What You Did Last Summer” franchise, but the star doesn’t have many fond memories of making the original slasher flick.
In a recent interview with Too Fab, the “She’s All That” star called the making of the 1997 movie — one of his first major screen credits — a “miserable” experience that almost caused him to quit acting. Specifically, Prinze said his issues stemmed from clashes with the director Jim Gillespie, who wanted to cast Jeremy Sisto, then best known for “Clueless,” but was pushed to hire Prinze by the studio and screenwriter Kevin Williamson.
“It’s not that we weren’t on the same page, I knew what the correct choices were for the Ray character. He wanted a different actor, a really good actor named Jeremy Sisto, who I know and I like and respect very, very much,...

It has been reported that Freddie Prinze Jr. hasn’t yet been offered a role in an upcoming sequel to his 1997 breakout hit, I Know What You Did Last Summer, although it had already been published in the trades that he would be starring in it. Ironically, that original film was so miserable for the actor that he almost left the movie business altogether. According to Deadline, Prinze Jr. had clashed with the director of that film to the point of almost quitting mid-production.
While promoting his new podcast, That Was Pretty Scary, in an interview, Prinze Jr. opened up about the difficult time he was having with director Jim Gillespie on his first major Hollywood movie. “There was no passive aggressiveness — which I hate — (the director) was very direct in the fact that, ‘I don’t want you in this movie,’ So when that’s your first job and you hear those words,...

Freddie Prinze Jr had such a hard time shooting I Know What You Did Last Summer that he almost quit the film.
The Scooby Doo actor made his big screen debut in the 1997 slasher film, which was directed by Jim Gillespie.
It was Gillespie’s second film and, according to Prinze Jr, he treated him terribly as he wanted Jeremy Sisto to play his role.
“I’ll give the man this – I think his name is Jim – he made no bones about it,” Prinze Jr said on horror podcast That Was Pretty Scary.
“There was no passive aggressiveness, which I hate – he was very direct in: ‘I don’t want you in this movie.’ So when that’s your first job and you hear those words, it just wrecks you, man.”

Freddie Prinze Jr. has recalled being “miserable” on the shoot of 1997 slasher hit I Know What You Did Last Summer, saying he “almost quit the movie” and “was just going to quit the business.”
This was Prinze Jr’s first major Hollywood film and launched his career, but he says he clashed with the director, Jim Gillespie. Appearing in a video interview with TooFab to promote his new podcast That Was Pretty Scary, Prinze Jr said, “There was no passive aggressiveness — which I hate — (the director) was very direct in the fact that, ‘I don’t want you in this movie,’ So when that’s your first job and you hear those words, it just wrecks you, man. He added, “It was very difficult waking up in the morning – or in the afternoon, because we shot a lot of nights – and go to work with the right attitude.

Freddie Prinze Jr. says that he struggled and “was in pain” on the set of horror favorite I Know What You Did Last Summer because of how the movie’s director treated him.
The actor opened up about his time shooting the film in a recent interview with TooFab, which was tied to the actor’s new horror podcast, That Was Pretty Scary. In the podcast, Prinze Jr. says he “almost quit the movie” and acting altogether after he had a near-death experience while filming a finale scene on a motorboat. The actor alleges that people working on the film had “broken a ton of union stuff that they shouldn’t have” and was ready to take the next flight out since he was already “not wanted here” — a claim he elaborates on in the interview.

Freddie Prinze Jr. marked the launch of his new horror movie podcast “That Was Pretty Scary” by talking to TooFab about one of his own seminal horror films, the 1997 teen slasher classic “I Know What You Did Last Summer.” Prinze Jr., who co-hosts the podcast with Jon Lee Brody, said making the movie was a miserable experience because of director Jim Gillespie, who the actor said was “such an asshole” to him on set. Alleged tension between the two started because Gillespie wanted to cast Jeremy Sisto in the role of Ray Bronson but the studio and screenwriter Kevin Williamson wanted Prinze Jr. instead.
“I’ll give the man this, I think his name is Jim, he made no bones about it,” Prinze Jr. said of the director. “There was no passive aggressiveness — which I hate — he was very direct in the fact that, ‘I don’t want you in this movie.

If we had a nickel for every time Andy Samberg.
As announced by The Hollywood Reporter, the film – written by The Menu scribe Seth Reiss – will see the Brooklyn Nine-Nine actor play a young man who, in order to save his life, undergoes an experimental procedure in which he is cryogenically frozen. When he wakes up (you guessed it!) 42.6 years later, physically unchanged thanks to having been frozen, Samberg’s character finds himself entirely alone and relying on the help of his ex-girlfriend who is now much older – and played by Jean Smart. It all sounds kinda sorta American Pickle-ish with a Sambergian twist.
No news yet on a release date for 42.6 Years, but Gillespie has past form when it comes to quirky romcoms (if you haven’t seen Ryan Gosling starrer Lars And The Real Girl you’re missing out). And with Smart having recently dazzled in HBO’s Watchmen,...

It is hard to imagine a time in popular cinema without slasher films, yet that's exactly what happened in the early '90s once franchises like "Friday the 13th" and "Halloween" had fallen from grace. But in 1996, when director Wes Craven's masterwork "Scream" hit theaters, everything changed. The man who introduced us to Freddy Krueger in "A Nightmare on Elm Street" had revived the slasher genre for a new generation. Now, it was time for every other studio in town to try and cash in. What better way to do that than to make another movie by the guy who wrote "Scream?"

Under Latasha Gillespie, Executive Head of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at Amazon Studios, Amazon rolled out its new inclusion playbook in June of 2021.

Sony has acquired rights in the U.S. and various other territories to Craig Gillespie and Black Bear Pictures’ “Dumb Money.”

Talking about reteaming with her I, Tonya director Craig Gillespie on Pam & Tommy, Oscar-nominated editor Tatiana S. Riegel describes the stories Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee, and that of Tonya Harding, as “misunderstood.”
“I actually find them kind of similar, the two stories,” Riegel says in a new episode of The Hollywood Reporter‘s Behind the Screen podcast. “Because of the length of time (since the events occurred), a lot of people either didn’t know anything about it, or had a preconception of what the stories were going to be — often a very judgmental preconception.”
Hulu’s Pam & Tommy revolves around the marriage of model-actress Anderson and Mötley Crüe drummer Lee and the theft of their notorious sex tape and streamed earlier this year.
“I knew there was going to be a certain emotional level to it,” Riegel adds of Gillespie being at the helm.

Australian director Craig Gillespie creates an energy in his images that brings the emotional undercurrent of his characters to life. He invites you into their space to wash in their feelings without saying too much. It’s the result of close collaboration with key department heads, a dynamic that editor Tatiana Riegel was first introduced to on 2007’s “Lars and the Real Girl.” “Craig is remarkably collaborative and secure in his own feelings and ideas to not insist upon them but he allows people to interpret them where he can then say yes or no,” she told IndieWire.
