"Are you kidding me, man?!" composer Angelo Badalamenti howls jokingly when Rolling Stone asks him what he thought of Twin Peaks, the TV series he scored in the early Nineties. "It was really off the wall. I thought it was either going to sink violently down the drain or, hopefully, capture the intrigue of enthusiastic people conversing by the office water cooler on a Monday morning."

A new Facebook campaign urging crew in the Los Angeles area to boycott work on Midnight Rider has launched just days after news broke that the film would resume production, following an on-set train crash that killed assistant camera operator Sarah Jones in February.
The page — titled “I Refuse to work on Midnight Rider! For Sarah!!!” — asks for L.A.-based crew to boycott work on the Gregg Allman biopic. The group page, created on April 15, now includes more than 1,000 members.
“This group is for people who Refuse to work on the show that was responsible for the death of Sarah Jones.

It was 2006 and in a kitchen in San Francisco, three people put their heads together. Two years later, Danae Ringelmann, Slava Rubin and Eric Schell cofounded Indiegogo, launched at Sundance and the rest is history. Indiegogo is the original crowdfunder, an open platform that invites independent filmmakers, artists and dreamers of all kinds to get their ideas off the ground through fan support. At a recent panel in Los Angeles, Marc Hofstatter of Indiegogo was joined by campaign producer Ray Brown ("The Bounce Back") to discuss the ins-and-outs of the company, and what makes a successful campaign -- in other words, sage wisdom for any indie filmmaker looking to crowdfund. Indiegogo also talked about a little something they call the Gogofactor, which increases your exposure if you're a smart, committed campaigner. Highlights below. Crowdfunding has become a new normal for filmmakers who want an audience that's more than just a theater full of passive eyeballs.

In an interview with The Associated Press in 2007, the 89-year-old said she saw no reason to retire.
"Retire? Why retire? I've got a job, I'm making money, and I like what I do. Why retire?" she asked. "I think I'll jump out of a cake, or something."

A proposed new film about Jesus is outraging conservative Christians with its unorthodox story line.
The Daily Mail reports the movie is based on the book "Jesus of Nazareth" by Paul Verhoeven, the Dutch director most famous for his films "RoboCop," "Total Recall" and "Basic Instinct," will also direct the movie version of "Jesus of Nazareth."
The most controversial aspects of the book and future film include a portrayal of Jesus as the child of a Roman soldier who raped Mary, a depiction that is contrary to the profession of faith by Christians that Mary was a virgin. The story also discounts the common biblical teachings of Jesus performing miracles, the resurrection and of Jesus' divinity.
As William Doehring explains in the Examiner, the film is based on the work of prominent Biblical theologians such as Rudolf Bultman and Raymond Brown, and the members of the Jesus Seminar, a group...

Amanda Beard knows a thing or two about pushing through and finishing strong.
But neither her 15 years as a national competitive swimmer nor her seven Olympic medals prepared the athlete, 28, for the September 18 arrival of little Blaise Ray Brown.
“My races last 2 ½ minutes at most,” says the first-time mom. “I was in labor for 17 hours!”
But just like in the pool, the hard work paid off: Amanda and her husband, photographer Sacha Brown, 35, were instantly smitten with their 7 lbs. 12 oz. bundle of joy.
“Everyone says, ‘It’s such a miracle,’” says Amanda.
