The legal drama’s sophomore season finds intrepid L.A. attorney Mickey Haller (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo) in an unusual spot: on an upswing. “You see a Mickey that starts confident,” says Garcia-Rulfo, referring to his winning the big case in The Lincoln Lawyer Season 1. “He’s at the top of his game.” But you’re only as good as your last verdict, and in this season, which is drawn from Michael Connelly’s 2011 novel The Fifth Witness, Mickey takes on the high-profile murder of a polarizing real estate developer. “There are a lot of twists in this case,” Garcia-Rulfo says. Plus, it introduces Mickey to chef Lisa Trammell (Lana Parrilla), whose home and livelihood were threatened by the victim. Also keeping Mickey on his toes are his two ex-wives — loyal colleague Lorna Crane (Becki Newton), juggling work and law school, and tough criminal prosecutor Maggie McPherson (Neve Campbell), with whom things are,...

The David E. Kelley-Michael Connelly series “Avalon,” which was set to star “Party of Five” alum Neve Campbell, isn’t moving forward at ABC, an individual with knowledge of the situation told TheWrap Friday.
Campbell would have played a Los Angeles cop assigned to be the small office in the town of Avalon on Catalina Island. Like Campbell’s Netflix series, “The Lincoln Lawyer,” it was based on characters created by novelist Connelly.

Scream star Neve Campbell is set to collaborate on another project with David E. Kelley (Big Little Lies) and Michael Connelly, this time as the lead of the new ABC drama Avalon. Campbell recently starred opposite Manuel Garcia-Rulfo in Netflix’s The Lincoln Lawyer, which Kelley adapted from the 2008 novel The Brass Verdict by Connelly, a sequel to his novel The Lincoln Lawyer. She will continue in her role of Maggie McPherson as a recurring guest star in the upcoming second season. According to Deadline, this new project takes place in the city of Avalon on Catalina Island in California and revolves around L.A. Sheriff’s Department Detective Nicole “Nic” Searcy (Campbell). Serving more than 1 million tourists a year, Catalina sees ferries arriving every day with hundreds of potential new stories entering the island. Neve Campbell is set to star in the upcoming ABC series “Avalon,” Variety has confirmed.
The show hails from co-creators David E. Kelley and Michael Connelly, with the show based on a short story that Connelly wrote. It was ordered straight-to-series at ABC in February.
The series takes place in the main city of Avalon on Catalina Island, where LA Sheriff Department Detective Nicole “Nic” Searcy (Campbell) heads up a small office. Catalina has a local population that serves more than 1 million tourists a year, and each day when the ferries arrive, hundreds of potential new stories enter the island. Detective Searcy is pulled into a career-defining mystery that will challenge everything she knows about herself and the island.
The character of Searcy is further described as the lone detective assigned to the LA County Sheriff’s substation on Catalina Island. Somewhat inscrutable, she isn’t easily intimidated and holds firm to her morals.

This The Lincoln Lawyer review is spoiler free and is based off of the first full season.
The opening episode of The Lincoln Lawyer sets the tone for the series right away. We see Mickey Haller (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo), fresh out of a stint in rehab, getting hounded by his assistant/ex-wife Lorna (Becki Newton) to get down to the courthouse because he has a big meeting with Mary Holder (LisaGay Hamilton), the senior judge of Los Angeles County. He’s not prepared for the meeting, doesn’t know what it’s about, but he takes it because he has no other choice and Mickey Haller is smart enough and quick enough to land on his feet no matter what gets thrown at him.
Haller is charming, clever, and a brilliant defense attorney. In other words, he’s the perfect centerpiece for a David E. Kelley-developed hour-long series. Originally a project a CBS,...
