DC’s Blue Beetle is skittering toward an unfortunate opening at the box office if the latest predictions are accurate. According to Boxoffice Pro, the superhero film starring Xolo Maridueña as Jaime Reyes is tracking for the lowest opening weekend in the DC Extended Universe’s history. The site predicts a $12M-$17M domestic take for Blue Beetle’s opening gambit. Analysts also expect a domestic total of $27M-$55M for the film’s domestic run, a number that places Blue Beetle on the low end of DC‘s rickety ladder. However, it’s possible that the numbers are wrong, and Blue Beetle will open stronger than anticipated. We’ve seen underdog films blow past predictions, and positive word of mouth could boost the film’s performance.

Los Angeles, July 12 (Ians) In the trailer for the upcoming superhero film ‘Blue Beetle’, we see the DC superhero in action as he faces off against his foe Conrad Carapax, also called the ‘Indestructible Man’.
The trailer dives deeper into the character of Jamie Reyes, a college student who becomes a reluctant superhero after being chosen by an ancient alien artifact called the Scarab to be its new host.
The trailer is packed with comedy, emotion as well as a bunch of CGI action as Jamie undergoes a transformation in his character, going from a boy wanting to get rid of his power to eventually embracing it. The trailer at the very end also promotes a bunch of Blue Beetle comics.
The Scarab gives him a very powerful blue exoskeleton equipped with various weapons and alien technology, as well as granting him flight and superhuman strength.
However, much like in Shazam or Spider-Man,...

After “Black Adam,” we have the “Blue Beetle.”
The latest entry out of the old DC Extended Universe guard, prior to James Gunn and Peter Safran taking over as co-CEOs of the Dcu, marks Xolo Maridueña’s first leading big-screen role. The “Cobra Kai” breakout plays Jamie Reyes, aka the Blue Beetle, who acquires superpowers after coming into contact with an extraterrestrial Scarab. Susan Sarandon stars as the super-villain mastermind trying to steal the military-grade Scarab, along with her goons.
In the film, recent college grad Jaime Reyes returns home full of aspirations for his future, only to find that home is not quite as he left it. As he searches to find his purpose in the world, fate intervenes when Jaime unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology: the Scarab. When the Scarab suddenly chooses Jaime to be its symbiotic host, he is bestowed...

The official final trailer for Blue Beetle has been released by Warner Bros. for our viewing pleasure. Although Superman Legacy will be the first movie in the Dcu, James Gunn recently said that Blue Beetle is the first Dcu character, so you’re going to want to keep your eye on this one.
Blue Beetle stars Xolo Maridueña as Jamie Reyes, a recent college grad who returns home full of aspirations for his future, only to find that home is not quite as he left it. “As he searches to find his purpose in the world, fate intervenes when Jaime unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology: the Scarab,” reads the official Blue Beetle synopsis. “When the Scarab suddenly chooses Jaime to be its symbiotic host, he is bestowed with an incredible suit of armor capable of extraordinary and unpredictable powers, forever changing his destiny...

Since Warner Bros. Discovery already dropped the first trailer right in time for “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” it’s no surprise that “Blue Beetle” didn’t get much more new footage beyond a longer version of the existing trailer.
Of course, that trailer makes the case pretty well, and the next trailer will get played before most screenings of “The Flash,” “Barbie” and “The Meg 2” alongside rival kid-flicks like “The Haunted Mansion” and “Tmnt: Mutant Mayhem” prior to its August 18 theatrical debut.
We got an extended version of the trailer Tuesday at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, with Xolo Maridueña’s Jamie Reyes stumbling upon a mystical scarab that turns him into the title hero. It was the same trailer save for an extra final gag involving a senior citizen and a gattling gun.

Apple Original Films has announced that Ridley Scott’s upcoming historical epic “Napoleon” will have an exclusive theatrical release partnership with Sony Pictures Entertainment on Wednesday, November 22, before streaming globally on Apple TV+. They haven’t announced a streaming date yet but we suspect it will be around Christmas. You can get your first look at the epic above.
Directed by the unstoppable Scott, working from a script by his “All the Money in the World” screenwriter David Scarpa, and starring Joaquin Phoenix in the title role as the French military leader, “Napoleon” is described in the official synopsis as “an original and personal look at Napoleon’s origins and his swift, ruthless climb to emperor, viewed through the prism of his addictive and often volatile relationship with his wife and one true love, Josephine, played by Vanessa Kirby.” According to the same synopsis, the film captures Napoleon’s “famous battles,...

Hope. That’s the feeling most fans were left with following the announcement of Warner Bros. Discovery’s slate for the Dcu (DC Universe). Following a decade of inner turmoil over what to do with their largest property, creative conflicts, a revolving door of leadership, the studio finally has a clear path forward with James Gunn and Peter Safran at the helm of DC Studios.
The announcement of ten new projects across film and television, falling under the designation Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters, offer up a great variety of characters and tones, showcasing the vastness of the DC Universe. One of the big takeaways was Gunn’s confirmation that this is not the Gunnverse, and while he is in a leadership position and helping build towards a larger story, the projects won’t all carry his aesthetic or perspective. The closest point of comparison for the Dcu would be...
