Michael Irving Moffett
Michael I. Moffett (LtCol, USMC, Rte) met Fahim Fazli in Afghanistan in March of 2010 when Moffett was on a special assignment with the U.S. Marines in Helmand Province. Moffett and Fazli stayed in touch and found that they had much in common, including the shared birthday of May 30 -- the traditional Memorial Day. After returning to America, they began work on Fahim's biography: FAHIM SPEAKS: A Warrior-Actor's Odyssey from Afghanistan to Hollywood and Back. Published by Dale Dye's Warriors Publishing Group, FAHIM SPEAKS won the Gold Medal for "Top Biography" from the Military Writers Society of America. A native of New Hampshire, Moffett completed 25 years of active and reserve duty with the Marines in 2011. He commanded a ground unit during Operation Desert Storm in 1991 and later served on General Tommy Franks CENTCOM staff after the 9/11 attacks in 2001. On the civilian side, Moffett was a college professor for Plymouth State University and the New Hampshire Technical Institute, retiring in 2015. In 2016 he was elected to the New Hampshire legislature, where he is currently Vice-Chair of the House Committee on State-Federal Relations and Veterans Affairs. He and his wife Beth presently live in Loudon, N.H. where Moffett continues to write a weekly column and regular Op-Eds for Granite State publications.
