Fremantle’s revenues rose 21% to €2.3B ($2.44B) and profits were up 15% last year as the super-indie inches toward its target to hit €3B ($3.2B) turnover by 2025.
Significant investment – both organically and via acquisitions – is to come across all genres this year, according to owner Rtl Group, following a year in which Fremantle’s adjusted Ebitda increased by nearly 15% to €162M.
Fremantle’s growth helped German-headquartered Rtl’s turnover to rise by 8.8%, although overall adjusted Ebitda for the group fell 6%.
American Gods and Planet Sex producer Fremantle was set the ambitious revenue target last year and went on a major buying spree in 2022, acquiring the likes of Normal People producer Element Pictures, Jimmy Savile: A British Horror Story indie 72 Films and Italian producer Lux Vide. It also struck talent deals with big names including Angelina Jolie, All Quiet on the Western Front’s Edward Berger and, most recently, The Case Against Adnan Syed director Amy Berg.

When Fremantle Group CEO Jennifer Mullin and Group COO and CEO, Continental Europe Andrea Scrosati took the stage at international TV confab MIPCOM on Tuesday, it was as one of the biggest independent film producers in the world. Within two years, Fremantle has gone from producing around eight feature films to some 33 annually, including such recent festival award winners as Cannes Jury Award recipient The Eight Mountains and Bones and All, which took best director in Venice for helmer Luca Guadagnino.
At the same time, Fremantle has been on a buying spree, snatching up boutique production companies —including Ireland’s Element Pictures, producers of the BBC/Hulu series Normal People and the Joanna Hogg feature The Eternal Daughter starring Tilda Swinton; Bosch...

Good afternoon Insider team. Max Goldbart back in the saddle for your weekly dose of news as the Russia/Ukraine invasion continues to have huge ramifications for the film and TV world and vice versa.
The Latest From Ukraine
World moves against Russia: It’s been genuinely hard to keep track of goings on over the past seven days as we enter the second week of the conflict but the film and TV world (not to mention sport) has acted. Major distributors BBC Studios, ITV Studios, All3Media International, Fremantle and Banijay have all paused trade with Russia. Film and TV markets including Mip TV, NATPE, Cannes and Series Mania have effectively barred official Russian presence. The general response from film festivals such as Venice, Toronto and the Cannes sidebars have been to ban presences but not movies, although some including Glasgow and Stockholm have pulled Russian pics. The European Film Academy...
