A new crowd pleaser has made it to the Paramore set list. The band live debuted their single “Thick Skull” at the Spark Arena in Auckland, New Zealand, on Sunday night. The audience waved their hands in the air as frontwoman Hayley Williams prompted, “Come on out with your hands up.”
The song is the emotional closer of their latest LP, This Is Why. Paramore performed the song halfway through their Nov. 19 set.
This Is Why is Paramore’s sixth studio album, and their first since 2017’s transformative After Laughter.

The 2023 Grammy Awards took place on Sunday, February 5 at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.
Beyoncé led with the most nominations with nine in total while Kendrick Lamar received eight. Jay-Z earned five nominations, tying his wife, Beyoncé, for the most nominations in Grammys history at 88.
Beyoncé and the contemporary Christian music collective Maverick City Music each won the most awards with four trophies. Beyoncé’s four victories this year for Best Dance/Electronic Recording, Best Traditional R&b Performance, Best R&b Song and Best Dance/Electronic Music Album made her the artist with the most Grammy wins in history with 32.
However, Beyoncé failed to scoop up the night’s three major awards: Song of the Year (Bonnie Raitt‘s “Just Like That”), Record of the Year (Lizzo‘s “About Damn Time”) and Album of the Year (Harry Styles‘ Harry’s House).
Lizzo appeared visibly stunned by her win.

As much fun as it was to see music's biggest names get honored at the 2023 Grammy Awards on Feb. 5, it was also a highlight to cheer for all the artists who picked up their very first wins this year.
The 2023 freshman class was packed with rising talent who are just getting started on their music careers, but they're not all lesser-known names. One of the biggest Grammys categories is, of course, best new artist, where the Recording Academy recognizes the brightest up-and-coming stars. This year, Anitta, Omar Apollo, Domi & Jd Beck, Samara Joy, Latto, Maneskin, Muni Long, Tobe Nwigwe, Molly Tuttle, and Wet Leg were all nominated, but Joy took home the award (and delivered a gracious acceptance speech for the honor).
Other Grammy categories had a high number of first-timers, too. The best rock album category, for instance, featured the first career Grammy nominations for Machine Gun Kelly (who...

The first batch of winners at the 2023 Grammy Awards has been announced! The show is far from over, and Beyoncé has already become the most-awarded artist in the Recording Academy's history. Other performers are also cleaning up with exciting wins. This year's main event is, once again, hosted by Trevor Noah - who served as the Mc in 2021 and 2022 - who, in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, teased that it'll be "the most star-studded room the Grammys has been for many, many years."

The 65th annual Grammy Awards are this Sunday, and one nominee learned his craft thanks to YouTube.
Twenty-five-year-old Omar Apollo, who just released his debut album Ivory in April 2022, is one of 10 acts nominated for best new artist at the 2023 Grammys.
Apollo told NPR he didn’t start making music until he was 17–and when he did get started, he had no idea what genre he wanted to get into, let alone what basic instrumental and vocal skills he needed to acquire.
“I always knew I wanted to sing, I just wasn’t good yet,” he said. He told the outlet he solved that problem by surfing YouTube for videos of singers who had natural vibrato and studying those singers until he could mimic the effect with his own voice.
He did the same sort of mimicking to learn guitar: He’d find videos of skilled guitar players and study their finger placements and movements.

Olivia Rodrigo, Megan Thee Stallion, Billie Eilish, and Dua Lipa all have one thing in common: they’re winners of the Grammy for Best New Artist. In most of those cases their wins were fairly predictable, feeling like the culmination of a massive year rather than the start of a new era for the artists. This is true for many — dare I say, most — Best New Artist winners of the past decade or so. Chance the Rapper, Sam Smith, and Macklemore and Ryan Lewis all coasted easily to their wins, and even the less obvious picks like Bon Iver and Alessia Cara were still predicted by many Grammy watchers. Perhaps the last truly shocking Best New Artist was Esperanza Spalding, who took the award in 2011. And now, 12 years later, we might be in for a similar event.

The rock field is one of the most interesting to predict at the Grammys. Last year many criticized the awards for nominating mostly older acts at the expense of buzzier projects by younger artists. Luckily, this year features a more varied mix of contenders, ranging from debutantes to legends. That being said, only one can take each award home with them, so who will it be?
SEEGrammy predictions: Why Wet Leg might be the artists to beat in the alternative music field Best Rock Performance
This category has seven nominees, so let’s go through the process of elimination. Bryan Adams got no other nominations, and that is typically a factor to consider when you’re analyzing the passion voters have for each artist. Idles and the Black Keys did get nominated for Rock Album, but their absence from Best Rock Song probably means they also aren’t as strong as their fellow nominees.

This year’s Grammy nominations for Best New Artist were … unexpected, to say the least. If you look back at the odds for the Grammy nominations on Gold Derby, only five of the expected 10 contenders actually made it in, those being Latto, Muni Long, Anitta, Wet Leg, and Omar Apollo. There were definitely a lot of surprises when it came to more niche genre-specific artists, and perhaps two of the biggest surprises were jazz artists Samara Joy and Domi and Jd Beck. But don’t count out the jazzists for the win here.
Samara Joy and Domi and Jd Beck represent different branches of jazz. Joy is more of a traditional jazz vocalist. Her sophomore record, “Linger Awhile,” which is nominated for Best Jazz Vocal Album, features a collection of timeless standards sung by Joy with her phenomenal voice. Joy is perhaps most similar to previous Best New Artist winner Esperanza Spalding,...

The 2023 Grammy nominations were announced on Tuesday, November 15 and, as usual, they were a mixed bag of shocking snubs and worthy surprises. While analyzing the hundreds of bids, we noticed several tidbits of telling information that should help us when making our predictions next year. Below, see our Top 5 Grammy nominations takeaways.
1. Watch out for jazz and Americana
Last year, Jon Batiste surprised everyone with an Album of the Year nom. Among the artists many genres, two stood out: jazz and American Roots. Batiste ended up winning in those two genres, along with Album of the Year and two other categories.
This year, the nominations prove this two seemingly small genres are here to stay. In Best New Artist, two jazz artists got nominated (Samara Joy and DOMi & Jd Beck), as well as Americana star Molly Tuttle. For Song of the Year, General Field winner and Americana star Bonnie Raitt...

When you talk about award shows, you have to talk about campaigning, by which artists are able to get their material out there in hopes that voters become more familiar with them and their craft. This year a few methods, both new and old, stand out as great ways of getting on the radar during Grammy season.
SEEGrammys flashback: Clash of the ’90s titans when Alanis Morissette beat Mariah Carey “Tiny Desk Concert”
NPR’s “Tiny Desk Concert” remains the best campaigning method right now. The intimate online series provides artists an opportunity to showcase their talent in a more intimate setting where their musicianship can be more easily appreciated. The series especially appeals to musicians, which is obviously more effective when it comes to Grammy campaigning since the Recording Academy is made up of industry professionals, and it has helped many surprise nominees like Anderson .Paak in 2016 and Jacob Collier...
