This light crime series from France, “The Art of Crime,” provides the usual elements of TV mysteries with a painless education in the meanings of classic paintings and personalized art history. Don’t yawn yet. Keep reading a bit further.
The Paris police have a special unit for art-related crimes. Antoine (Nicolas Gob) is assigned to it as a banishment from the serious crime squad he’d thrived on until he pissed off the wrong honcho. His complete lack of knowledge about or interest in this milieu makes the transfer even more punitive. He’s also forced to accept a partnership with a quirky consultant, Florence (Eleonore Bernheim), whose expertise in the Old Masters is essential to catching the offenders. Each case is handled in two 50-minute episodes, so no pressure to binge.

"Hot guys crossing Europe by bus... Things are definitely gonna happen." Peccadillo Pictures has debuted an official UK trailer for an amusing French gay comedy titled The Shiny Shrimps, also Les Crevettes Pailletées originally in French. Matthias Le Goff, an Olympic champion at the end of his career, makes a homophobic statement on TV. His punishment: coach "The Shiny Shrimps", a flamboyant and amateur gay water-polo team. They have only one goal in mind: to qualify for the Gay Games in Croatia where the hottest international Lgbtq athletes compete. But the guys are more interested in partying than practicing, unless Le Goff can get them in line. Nicolas Gob stars as Le Goff, with a cast including Alban Lenoir, Michaël Abiteboul, David Baïot, Romain Lancry, Roland Menou, Geoffrey Couët, Romain Brau, Félix Martinez, Maïa Quesemand, and Pierre Samuel. This reminds me of Sink or Swim, another French water sports all-male-team comedy from last year.

An Aissa Maiga project I'm only just learning about, likely because it's a made-for-French TV film, and it's scheduled to premiere on France 2, on June 19, at 8:40 pm.English-language info on the telefilm isn't available, so I'm using my trusty Google translator to assist.Titled Mortel été, which translates to Deadly Summer, the film follows Julie (played by Maiga), a 30-something woman, living in a hot Southern France locale, who feels trapped in her current marriage, and secretly plans to leave her unadventurous, dull husband, Simon (Bruno Solo), to follow Louis (Nicolas Gob), her lover, whom she thinks will take her away and bring some excitement to her life. But...

The plot of Cannibal is as follows: Max (Nicolas Gob) is a weirdo living by himself in the woods. Every day, he practices his golf swing. One day, a stray ball lands near the body of a woman (Helena Coppejans) lying prone and apparently dead in the woods. As opposed to calling the police or ambulance like a regular Joe, Max decides to scoop her up and take her home. Turns out, the woman isn’t dead. Instead she regains consciousness and begins flirting with Max. She claims to have no name so Max calls her Bianca. Bianca sneaks off and kills folks by eating bits of them.

How sweet! Fresh meat! At least for our friends across the pond. Here in the States our meats are usually processed with fillers like pretty teens, PG-13 kills, and of course floating heads on posters.
Arriving on UK DVD September 26th from Matchbox Films is Benjamin Viré's Cannibal, which stars Helena Coppejans and Nicolas Gob. Philippe Nahon (High Tension) co-produced the film with Eric Godon (the two previously collaborated on The Pack).

Newcomer Helena Coppejans and award winning Belgian TV actor Nicolas Gob star in Cannibal , a film hitting UK DVD this month that we thought we'd bring your attention to. A: It’s a hell of a lot of work! For the first thirteen episodes, they recorded well over 60 songs.
“On the first episodes, we were preparing weeks in advance,” says Kevin McHale, who plays Artie (the guy in the wheelchair). “But as we got down to doing episodes twelve and thirteen, we’d record it Monday, rehearse on Tuesday, and shoot it on Wednesday. It just got crazy. We’re recording for an episode before while shooting the current episode and rehearsing another episode. It can be anywhere from ten to 16 hours on the set.”

Getting To Know … Shameless
The love life of gay teenager Ian Gallagher (Gerard Kearns) on the U.K. series Shameless has never been easy. Whether it’s having to steal a bed just so he can have sex with his hot new boyfriend (somehow landing in prison because of it), trying to keep his ongoing affair with a married man a secret, or that fling with a homophobic drug dealer who has a strange sexual quirk (big surprise), something always comes along to make finding love (or just getting laid) a trying ordeal for poor Ian.
Gerard Kearns as Ian Gallagher
Shameless, which airs on Channel 4, the same network that brings us Hollyoaks, is a dark and perverse comedy/drama about the twisted lives of the extremely dysfunctional Gallagher family, as well as their friends and their enemies. One of the things we've frequently lamented here at AfterElton.com is that when it comes to the umpteen million cop dramas and crime procedurals dotting the broadcast television landscape, there is nary a male gay cop or detective to be found.
Oh sure, we can be the murder victim (a drag queen or transgender person), the murderer (a closet case), or a witness (distraught partner proving the show is tolerant and diverse), but when it comes to actually carrying a badge, we never seem to be up to the job.
Thanks to NBC's new cop drama Southland, from ER's executive producer John Wells, that's about to change when the show premieres April 9th. That's right, someone in the photo above is gay! Learn more after the jump!

It’s been a busy year for soaps and dramas featuring gay characters (you should just see the number of shows I have to watch). A lot of it was good, much of it was bad, and some . . . well, that’s the point of this week's survey. We’re looking for your opinions on the year's best and worst in soaps and dramatic shows featuring gay characters. From Best Series to Worst Storyline to Best Couple to Most Shocking Plot Twist, we want to know what you loved and hated in the shows featuring your favorite and not-so-favorite gay characters. The results will be announced in the Dec. 15th edition of “Gays of Our Lives.” And please, if you feel there’s someone we’ve missed, you can write in your own choice!
