Whether you're a fright fanatic, a middle-of-the-row horror fan, or a "someone-dragged-me-here" who barely watches from between terrified, trembling fingers, you've probably noticed an interesting trend: a lot of recent horror movies are based on true stories. At least that's what the filmmakers would have us believe.
The all-too-common "based on a true story" or "based on true events," along with the less reliable "inspired by true events," have become ubiquitous additions to most horror movie marketing campaigns. But this is nothing new. Going all the way back to the "Texas Chainsaw Massacre's" iconic 1974 tagline -- "What happened is true. Now the motion picture that's just as real." -- the truth has always been an important tactic in upping the fear factor for audiences.

TNT and TBS have a solid week's worth of entertainment in store.
In addition to new episodes of "The Closer" and "Men of a Certain Age," both of which aired on December 14, the cable networks will be airing a pair of specials and new episodes of two original TBS series.
In the new episode of TNT series "The Closer," actor Beau Bridges portrays the former partner of regular character Det. Lt. Provenza (G.W. Bailey). But upon his old partner's return, Provenza learns that George Andrews has undergone a sex change and now answers to the name Georgette.
In a press conference call for the episode, Bridges said the uniqueness of the character was what appealed to him.

Earlier this week, The Closer ended its summer run.
The series won't return until December, but here's a fun casting tidbit to keep fans interested until then:
Beau Bridges will appear in one episode of the Kyra Sedgwick drama, portraying George Andrews, a former partner of Provenza. The character comes back to help close a case that has been turned over on appeal.
TV Guide first reported this news.
Bridges was last seen as Wisteria Lane's resident handy man on the 100th episode of Desperate Housewives. He earned an Emmy nomination for the role.
