“Hacks” is, and has always been, a relationship comedy. The HBO Max series from Lucia Aniello, Paul W. Downs, and Jen Statsky takes an exhaustively progressive Gen Z comedy writer and pairs her with a legendary stand-up comic whose worldview has become as stale as her jokes. The first season harvested humor from their prickly interactions, as both Ava (Hannah Einbinder) and Deborah (Jean Smart) felt each other out while finding a working rhythm. In Season 2, they took their show on the road, driving their fragile yet fruitful new connection toward a creative explosion or a close-quarters’ flare-out.
Ava and Deborah’s relationship is strictly platonic — Deborah’s running jokes about Ava’s “huge” hands negate any romantic assumptions, which the show itself has also acknowledged as a sneaky running joke of its own — but they’re not without romance. “Hacks” fits the comfortable mold of a romantic-comedy. Its Hollywood...

The serial killer thriller You has been a huge hit for Netflix. Fans have been captured by its twists and turns, as well as its portrayal of a killer’s twisted mind. Well, more than one killer, actually. One of the most captivating You storylines was Joe (played by Penn Badgley) developing a relationship with Love. Their connection started out a little dark, then got progressively way, way darker. But there was one moment that Badgley said was especially hard for him to take.
‘You’ Season 2 follows Joe as he met Love (L-r): Victoria Pedretti and Penn Badgley in ‘You’ | Beth Dubber/Netflix
When Joe met Love in You Season 2, his goal was to leave his murderous ways behind and become a “nice guy.” If that was ever going to happen, Love was the last person he should have gotten entangled with.

You is officially back for season 4, and fans of the Netflix series are eating it up thus far. And while there are plenty of new characters for viewers to explore, many are still nostalgic for some old favorites. Jenna Ortega’s Ellie Alves, for example, is someone who continues to come up time and time again. Though Ellie was only briefly mentioned in season 3, her impact on the sophomore season of the hit show makes fans hopeful she’ll reappear.

Elizabeth Holmes always wanted to be famous. Steve Jobs famous. But maybe not quite like this. Gracing magazine covers including Forbes as she rose to the top of the tech world before her staggering downfall, more recently on trial and convicted of criminal fraud, Holmes relished her celebrity and the attendant perks as founder and CEO of Theranos. Her bio-tech company promised a universal and cheap blood-testing method that would revolutionize and democratize the health-care industry. Only one problem: It never worked and was never going to. Beth Dubber/Hulu In Hulu’s compelling eight-part The Dropout, Amanda Seyfried skillfully humanizes this enigmatic faux visionary who captivated the world and the media as a young, glamorous ladyboss who built her company on a dream—and a lie. Oh, the irony! I’ve been covering Hollywood industry awards as a journalist for 30 years and now I’m nominated for the Press Award bestowed by Hollywood’s leading PR guild: Icg Publicists. It’s so gracious of them – thank you, huzzahs to all – but now I’ll get a toxic dose of what I report on all the time: nominee jitters.
Uh-oh: do my Hollywood industry peers really, really like me? Should I campaign aggressively? Rent out billboards on Sunset Boulevard? What should I wear on Feb. 7 when the winner is revealed at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in the same room where the Golden Globes are doled out?
Lucky for me, I know the drill. I’ve been nominated, and lost, twice in the past. Only 16 more defeats and I’ll be the Susan Lucci of the Publicists’ Award! So, please, save me: spread the word across town — Vote for Tom!

Depending on who you ask, Netflix's hit Ya drama 13 Reasons Why is either tremendously irresponsible television or an incredibly bold and vital work. Like a lot of things geared toward The Youth, there is a compulsion to litigate its existence in public forums, condemn it alongside Tide Pods and/or declare it a Good Way to Talk to Your Teen. And because the show's second season premiered over this past weekend, you'll see many trying to sort this out once more and in disproportionately severe terms: Is 13 Reasons Why dangerous?...

A loosely autobiographical Netflix comedy, Lady Dynamite stars Bamford, Ana Gasteyer, Fred Melamed, Mary Kay Place, Mo Collins, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Bridget Everett, Lennon Parham, Yimmy Yin, Dean Cain, and Ed Begley, Jr. Inspired by Bamford's experiences, Netflix describes Lady Dynamite as, “…the story of a woman who loses — and then finds — her s**t.” Set in Los Angeles, the sitcom takes an oft surreal look at several different periods in the actor and standup comic’s life. Sometimes one role can define an actor’s career. Sam Elliott plays such an actor in late life, facing his own mortality and coming to grips with his life and career, in the sometimes funny, sometimes touching drama The Hero. The Hero is an intimate personal drama that draws on universal human concerns in a story that is by turns comic, bittersweet or moving. Writer/director Brett Haley’s thoughtful film has the same feel of authenticity as his previous one, I’LL See You In My Dreams, in which Elliott co-starred with Blythe Danner. Like that film, The Hero is a life-affirming film that portrays older adults as fully rounded individuals living in this present world instead of two-dimensional types, human beings with brains, a sense of humor and romantic lives.

In The Last Word, Shirley MacLaine stars as Harriet Lauler, a successful, wealthy but not beloved retired businesswoman, who decides to write her own obituary prior to her death. To craft the perfect obit, she hires a young writer at the local newspaper, played by Amanda Seyfried, mostly for her skill in making unpleasant people sound admirable.
Shirley MacLaine plays the kind of flinty character she has played so often and so well since Terms Of Endearment. The film looks like a showcase for the iconic star and indeed MacLaine is the best thing in this unremarkable if well-meaning film. On September 17th, SNL‘s Andy Samberg is going to try to sell you on cop comedy, and it’s about as tough a game as coming up with a Brooklyn Nine-Nine Review. I suspect he’s going to manage it, but it’s the kind of show that you’re going to want to know what you’re in for. You have to go a long way to find something worthy of comparison that doesn’t make this show sound like Scrubs P.D., and when you go that far back, the comparison may not make a lot of sense.
In a recent interview, show creators Dan Goor and Michael Schur (of Parks & Recreation – which gives an idea of the feel) mentioned Barney Miller, and that’s actually the best show I can think of to try to put Brooklyn Nine-Nine in a neat cubby, but that needs some explanation in itself.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine is coming your way from Fox on Sept. 17th, and Andy Samberg, along with show creators and executive producers Dan Goor and Mike Schur were available recently to talk about the show and eat beef jerky. At the end, Andy gets a surprise insight into the creation of the show, and it’s pretty cool.
If you’ve seen the clips, you know that it was a call destined to venture somewhat outside the normal realms.
If you aren’t familiar yet, Samberg plays Detective Jake Peralta, an unusual detective who is very talented at what he does, but isn’t used to following rules. We enter the show as Captain Ray Holt (Andre Braugher) takes over the squad that Peralta is part of, and we’re about to have a serious clash.
Take a look at a quick preview clip below if you aren’t up to speed.

Andre Braugher plays out Captain Ray Holt on Brooklyn Nine-Nine
(photo: Eddy Chen/Fox)
Outside of Glee, Fox isn’t necessarily the first place a gay viewer might head to watch him or herself represented but the tide may be turning as one new sitcom on the network, Brooklyn Nine-Nine has a regular gay character…and that character is Captain Ray Holt, played by acclaimed actor Andre Braugher. The series also stars Andy Samberg (Saturday Night Live), Melissa Fumero and Terry Crews.
Following the TCA panel for the series, which premieres September 17th, we grabbed some time with Braugher and Executive Producer/Co-Creator Michael Schur (Parks & Recreation, The Office) to talk about what we can expect.
Being early in shooting, Braugher admitted, “I don’t know where the story arcs are headed so I’m not sure at all whether my husband will be on the set or what the story will be.

With Dr. Temperance Brennan sharing the same moniker as the show in which she stars, it probably won’t come as much of a surprise that Booth and Brennan (nay, Bones) are reunited in tonight’s much-anticipated eighth season finale. That said, what certainly will come as one are the circumstances surrounding their hotel rendezvous, the fate of arch-nemesis Christopher Pelant and what other surprises await the gang from the Jeffersonian. At least that was our takeaway from a recent conference call with two of the most likeable showrunners in Hollywood, executive producers Hart Hanson and Stephen Nathan. See for yourself, after the jump.
So Pelant, he’s like a bad rash, he just won’t go away. Is he going to continue and be at the forefront as a criminal this season, or have you guys got somebody else lined up?
Stephen: He’s going to be around all season.

Bones fans know that the season 8 premiere is just around the corner so we feel it’s a perfect time for us share these promo images of the episode we have from Fox with you. We get even more looks of a blonde Emily Deschanel that we saw in the teaser released last week, many with Booth and other familir and favorite faces, but we also get a couple get a peek at some relatively new Bones players for season 8 that debuted late last season.
We get a close up of Andrew Leeds as serial killer Christopher Pelant who showed up for two episodes last season and is the reason why Brennan is on the run and sporting a new hair style. The other is Reed Diamond, who showed up as FBI Special Agent Hayes Flynn in the last season finale.

Say what you will about Hart Hanson, but there’s no denying that the Bones creator knows his audience! Case in point, these handful of just released first look photos from the hit Fox series upcoming eight season premiere that feature a creepy Christopher Pelant (Andrew Leeds), a snoopy secret agent (Reed Diamond guest starring as FBI Special Agent Hayes Flynn) and — most importantly of all — a much anticipated motel rendezvous between an anxious Booth and a very blonde Brennan. The latter of whom, as you may recall, is on the run after being wrongfully accused of murder during May’s seventh season finale!

Chicago – The legendary high school party is often the myth of memory than actual events, but most people have been there, and that is what makes “Project X” so much fun. Thomas Mann, Oliver Cooper and Jonathan Daniel Brown are the party masters, rocking in Pasadena, California.
Rating: 3.5/5.0
There is something weirdly voyeuristic about seeing a party go out of control, and “Project X” rolls off the tracks with fireworks to spare. What makes it work is that it’s always conscious of the shadowing civility in the real world, but chooses to toss that in the pool without looking back. The more outrageous the anarchy becomes, the more epic the party and the celebration is, even when the inevitable break down occurs. Plus the production is sharp and tight, with not a wasted frame of the good times, and even the aftermath includes a certain awareness.

For those of you who've seen the "Project X" marketing campaign and wondered, "What is that movie?," the stars and producer have the answers you seek.
Yes, this is a film about a high school party thrown by the not-so-cool kids that gets so out of control an entire suburban block is engulfed in flames. But it's not just about the action; it's the unfinished, citizen-videographer feel that defines the film.
"How do you make a movie for a high school audience today?" producer Todd Phillips ("The Hangover," "Old School") asked MTV News, talking about how he and first-time director Nima Nourzadeh approached their new take on a classic concept.

Chicago – The epic party in the upcoming film “Project X” would not have come off the way did if it wasn’t for the planning committee, portrayed by Thomas Mann, Oliver Cooper and Jonathan Daniel Brown. The three relative unknowns took different routes to secure their roles, and kept the festivities going.
Produced by Todd Phillips (”The Hangover,” “Old School”) and directed by newcomer NIma Nourizadeh, “Project X” is the high school version of the party-oriented hijink films that Phillips has previously directed. Simply involving a 17th birthday party that grows to legendary proportions, “Project X” has a lot of surreal fun expanding the concept of having a good time.
