How does Geoffrey make a living? What's the deal with Rod, Jane and Freddy? Jenny dives deep into the mysteries of Rainbow...
You think Pixar films leave you with questions? Try being a fan of Rainbow. Over the years, my binge watching of the show has left me scratching my head on numerous occasions, and not just when I was 6 and had nits.

In this article I will attempt to ignore the fact that I'm in my 30s and writing articles about Rainbow. I'll also have a crack at unravelling some of Rainbow's more intriguing mysteries.

From Doctor Who and The FiveIsh Doctors to Campion and Button Moon: we chat to the fifth Doctor, Mr Peter Davison...
Ah, the mighty Peter Davison. The Fifth Doctor, All Creatures Great And Small, Campion, and living in a house with Freddy from Rainbow are just some of the topics we chatted to him about, ahead of the publication of his terrific autobiography, Is There Life Outside The Box.
We’ve got a fair bit to get through, so without further ado….
I got a sense you thoroughly enjoyed writing this book, once you were over some initial research-y hurdles. Would that be fair?
Yeah, that’s fair. It was kind of a journey, really. A reassembling. I’ve had these memories, and it was really a chance to put them down on paper and order them. Everything fragments as you get older, and things come out,...

In terms of content genres, gaming and music both dominate the YouTube landscape. ‘Minecraft’ was the top search query on all of YouTube in 2014, while music videos from bold-faced artists as well as fan-made covers are so pervasive that the company launched a standalone music app late last year.
However, a new trend that combines the two aforementioned interests is starting to gain serious traction, and it’s known as 'gaming rap'. Searches for gaming rap videos have started to explode in recent months -- climbing rather steadily since 2013 and peaking in February, according to Google Trends.
Additionally, there have been several videos within the category to have clocked millions of views. One of the most popular is a compilation of Five Nights at Freddy’s raps (below) by Jt Machinima, a channel that makes songs and skits about video games. And these kinds of videos cross linguistic lines. The Spanish channel ZarcortGame,...

Exclusive: to celebrate the release of the ITV60 DVD box set, here's a previously unreleased clip from classic children's show Rainbow...
Forget Marco Polo and The Power Of The Daleks, the true geek treasure at the end of the search for missing classic TV episodes is here. And it features Bungle.
Specifically, the main Bungle, Stanley Bates, joined by Roy Skelton voicing Geoffrey's fellow wards, Zippy and George.
The clip below originated in a Boxing Day Rainbow special, and using our Bungle-senses, we've provisionally placed as coming from 1975 episode, Christmas Party.
The episode has since lain unreleased until Network dusted it off and included it among 59 episodes from other of ITV's classic fare on a DVD box set celebrating the broadcaster's 60th birthday.
You'll notice that Rod, Jane and Freddy are in fact, Rod, Jane and Matt in this one - 'Matt' being Matthew Corbett, who left...

Actor and writer who adapted his novels for the big and small screen
The actor and writer David Cook, who has died of pancreatic cancer aged 74, was the “forgotten” first presenter of the pre-school children’s programme Rainbow. He went on to write the television film Walter (1982), which was screened on Channel 4’s debut night as the first Film on Four.
Cook hosted only the first series of Rainbow, which was devised in 1972 as a British version of Sesame Street. It aimed to educate and entertain the under-fives with words, songs and ideas. Inside the Rainbow house, Cook was joined by the domineering, hyperactive puppet Zippy and the clumsy bear Bungle (originally John Leeson in a costume), as well as the glove puppets Sunshine and Moony. Music came from the folk group Telltale (only later did Rod, Jane and Freddy become the long-running singing trio) and Rainbow was a...

This country has produced plenty of great double acts down the years - Morecambe & Wise, Little & Large, Ant & Dec, The Chuckle Brothers - but why do we always stop at the number two? If two heads are better than one, then surely three are wiser than two. If any proof was needed, look no further than legendary pop songwriters and children's entertainers Rod, Jane & Freddy. They made their name on the camp and surreal ITV hit Rainbow before going it alone with their own self-titled series and stage show that toured the UK to much acclaim. Of course, what truly makes Rod, Jane & Freddy special is not just their TV talents, but also the mystery that remains around their unusual triangular relationship. Rod & Jane were at one time (more)...

Rainbow, like most children's TV shows from the '70s and '80s, was often ruined by tiresome morals and educational interludes. Whether it was Geoffrey Hayes preaching about sharing or Rod, Jane and Freddy singing twee tunes about everyone being great friends, there was always an uncomfortable extra-curricular element to the Thames TV hit. However, the show's saving grace came in the shape of an orange glove puppet with a rugby ball for a head. Although not often credited with it, Zippy was probably one of the country's first true punk icons. He took no notice of traditional rules of behaviour, gladly shouting and misbehaving on primetime kids TV - he even had a metal piercing (the infamous zip) on his mouth. While (more)...
