The former "Sixpence None the Richer" singer will release "The State I'm In" on Friday – her first country album (and first record since 2011's "Hymns and Sacred Songs").
"I’ve talked about making this record for 20 years, it took every minute of the last 20 years to complete, but it’s been well worth it," Leigh tells Access Hollywood of her upcoming album. "I’m overjoyed with it."

The French New Wave, that cinematic movement from the 1960s that essentially defined iconoclasm for film, has undoubtedly had its impact on nearly everything, from film to music to style. And given its indelible impact on cultural history, it’s one of the easiest artistic movements to pull from, as demonstrated from three key music videos inspired by, ripped off from, and celebrating the auteurs from Godard to Truffaut.
“Dancing with Myself” – Nouvelle Vague
There’s a bit of irony and wordplay going on here. First, the band’s name is Nouvelle Vague, nodding to both the French New Wave and the New Wave in music during the 1980s. Then there’s the name of the album that the French cover band chose to use: Bande à Part, from the Jean-Luc Godard film of the same name. Then there’s the actual music video. Rather than go about “creating” a music video for their single,...

It was more than just a "Portlandia" reunion, but also a pop culture mind warp in Boston when Fred Armisen took the stage alongside Dinosaur Jr. frontman J. Mascis, as well as members of Sixpence None the Richer and Seattle darling Telekinisis to perform, among other things, TLC's "Waterfalls."
Armisen was slated to perform at the Berklee College of Music with a special guest, his "Saturday Night Live" character, Ian Rubbish.
Fred -- er, make that Ian -- was joined by Mascis, Leigh Nash of Sixpence and Michael Lerner of Telekinesis fame for the TLC cover, as well as a rendition of Dinosaur Jr.'s 1994 hit, "Feel the Pain." And indie rock minds melted in unison.
Mascis joined Armisen as Rubbish on stage earlier this year as part of an "SNL" send-off by an indie rock super band that included Kim Gordon and Aimee Mann. ...

Based on a couple of moments during the show, I can't help but get the feeling that more than one cast member said at some point this week, "You know, Bruno Mars could be our new Justin Timberlake." Timberlake's quite popular hosting style was obviously the blueprint for the evening: Timberlake was even mentioned during the monologue and Mars starred in a sketch that Timberlake had previously performed. Admittedly, I was dreading this show. Musical performers who are thrust into hosting duties have a, let's say, mixed history of success. But, yeah ... maybe Bruno Mars (with a little help from Tom Hanks) really is the next Justin Timberlake? (Ok, not quite, yet.) So, the host was great, what about the sketches? That is a slightly more complicated answer. In other words: Bruno Mars was the best host of the season, but this was not the best show of the season.

When Sixpence None the Richer split in 2004, co-founders Leigh Nash and Matt Slocum broke away to pursue other music: Slocum formed The Astronaut Pushers, and Nash-- whose breathy, dulcet voice we remember from 1997's pop smash “Kiss Me”-- recorded a solo album, Blue on Blue. But both missed Sixpence, their artistic home, which Nash, who'd been with the band since age 15, described as “some comfortable old shoes.” Both musicians are in a different stage life now-- Nash has a four-year-old son, and Slocum just became a father himself-- but they've reformed the band and just released a Christmas album, The Dawn of Grace. The birth of Slocum's child inspired “The Last Christmas,” one of the album's two originals, and both bring three years of fresh experience to the table now. But, according to Nash, they're still “the same Sixpence, in a way.” Paste recently talked with Nash and Slocum...
