2020 might have been the year of the time loop movie, but Christopher Smith's 2009 horror film, "Triangle," is one of the best to ever do it. The underseen film has seen a resurgence in popularity as the time loop film as a style of storytelling has expanded beyond classics like "Turn Back The Clock," "The Twilight Zone," and most famously, "Groundhog Day." In "Triangle," a young mother named Jess (Melissa George) is struggling to adjust to raising her autistic son, Tommy (Joshua McIver), on her own. She has a planned day trip on a friend's boat, but strange little coincidences occurring throughout the day start to feel like devastating inevitabilities. As time continues to loop and realities begin to fold in on each other, making sense of the film can feel overwhelming if you're not used to the timey-wimey weirdness of a film like "Triangle."

"There's a reason the call it the most dangerous sport on Earth." Saban Films has debuted one more official trailer for the inspiring true story Ride Like a Girl. We already posted two Australian trailers for this film last year, for its Australian release in the fall. This finally will open in this Us this March. The film tells the true story of Michelle Payne, the first female jockey to win the Melbourne Cup - horse-racing's toughest two-mile race - in 2015. Teresa Palmer stars as Michelle, also joined by Sam Neill, Sullivan Stapleton, Stevie Payne (as himself), Genevieve Morris, Sophia Forrest, Henry Nixon, Aaron Glenane, and Zara Zoe. This definitely does seem like it's worth catching up with when it releases in the Us next month. Here's the (third) official Us trailer (+ poster) for Rachel Griffiths' Ride Like a Girl, direct from YouTube: You can still watch the first...

"That might be a little much for everyone..." Hulu has released a brand new Us red band trailer for Abe Forsythe's Little Monsters, the wacky fun zombie comedy horror film that first premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. This wild and crazy zombie comedy is about a teacher and an aimless guy who end up on a field trip to a petting zoo when a zombie outbreak takes over. It also played at the SXSW Film Festival this year, and will be debuting on Hulu starting in October. Lupita Nyong'o stars as the enigmatic teacher who fights back to keep her kids safe, along with Alexander England as the tag along Dave, and Josh Gad as an asshole TV personality who freaks out when the zombies show up. Also starring Stephen Peacocke, Kat Stewart, Nadia Townsend, Marshall Napier, Henry Nixon, and Rahel Romahn. This is an extra gory,...

This trailer has everything I could want. It’s a true story; it’s a sports story; it’s a story about a girl who perseveres and breaks through the glass ceiling in a sport that was dominated by men; there are horses. I love a good sports movie that will tug at my heartstrings, and this looks like it will absolutely do the job.
Ride Like a Girl is the inspiring true story of Michelle Payne, the first female jockey to not only compete in, but win, the Melbourne Cup. Sorry if that’s a spoiler, but if you’ve ever watched a movie like this, you probably could have figured it out. If they made a movie about it, then she probably won.
Payne is played by Teresa Palmer, who is beautiful and reminds me of Kristen Stewart, except she can act. She is joined by Sam Neill,...

"It's not just about speed, it's about patience." Transmission Films has debuted the first official trailer for an inspirational sports biopic from Australia titled Ride Like a Girl, which is also the feature directorial debut of actress Rachel Griffiths. The film tells the story of Michelle Payne, the first female jockey to win the Melbourne Cup - horse-racing's toughest two-mile race - back in 2015. Teresa Palmer stars as Michelle, with a wonderful cast including Sam Neill, Sullivan Stapleton, Stevie Payne (as himself), Genevieve Morris, Sophia Forrest, Henry Nixon, Aaron Glenane, and Zara Zoe. This looks great! Seems to be a bit better than your average sports biopic, with plenty of hardship and heart keeping her motivated as she fights her way into the male-dominated world of jockeys. Plus, Sam and Teresa are both wonderful to watch. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Rachel Griffiths' Ride Like a Girl, direct...

An underrated gem about death on a boat, Christopher Smith's Triangle is also a classic fable about sin and punishment, Ryan writes...
How can Triangle be summed up in just a sentence or two? It’s a thriller about a boat trip that goes horribly awry. Then it becomes a lean slasher flick set on an abandoned cruise liner. And then it flips over into - well, that’d just be spoiling things. And maybe this gets to the heart of why Triangle earned praise from critics but didn’t exactly soar at the box-office on its release in 2009: the movie doesn’t have any major stars, unless you count former Home & Away actress Melissa George or a pre-Hunger Games Liam Hemsworth, and it’s impossible to describe the plot in detail without ruining its many twists and turns.

How do you make a true life story about litigation against a big cement manufacturer appealing to general audiences? You cast the hell out of it. This is exactly what the makers of Devil's Dust, the story of the James Hardie asbestos scandal and court case have done, and the results look superb. Anthony Hayes (The Square) leads the cast as Bernie Banton, the campaigner who became the public face of the political and legal campaign to achieve compensation for the sufferers of asbestos-related conditions, which they contracted after working for the company James Hardie. In the alternate universe that I seem to live in, Julia Leigh’s Sleeping Beauty is a comprehensively confident achievement by an important new director. In the real world, most of my critical cohort gave the film short shrift, dismissing it as strained or sensationalistic or empty.
There’s no percentage in getting overly defensive, but one good way to begin talking about Sleeping Beauty is to address the common observation that the film’s central character, Lucy (the remarkable Emily Browning), is too psychologically opaque for us to interest ourselves in her problem. It’s certainly true that Leigh chooses to retain some mystery around the existential torment that overtakes Lucy in the film’s second half. And it’s also true that Leigh is elliptical in her establishment of Lucy’s character in the first half.
But ellipsis is not the same as omission, and in fact Lucy...

I am starting to become a fan of Sucker Punch star Emily Browning. I liked her in Snyder’s film, while it is cool to see her grow as an actress. That is why I was intrigued when I saw this trailer for Sleeping Beauty, which will be at Cannes Film Festival this year. Originally Mia Wasikowska was to be in the film, but Browning replaced her. In the film it seems that she is reprising her ‘Punch role of sorts, hopping through strange surreal worlds and stuff like she did in Snyder’s girl power film. Now in a more contemporary setting, she stars in director Julia Leigh’s dark, dramatic contemporary retelling of the classic fairy tale Sleeping Beauty. The story follows Lucy, a young university student who is pulled into a mysterious and hidden world of beauty and desire. The first trailer has been released featuring the...

"What initially started off as a small commercial for a Mercedes-Benz dealership turned into something international and epic," director Marc Furmie tells Filmink. Keen to change their look and appeal G Brothers Mercedes-Benz and Petronas Lubricants International looked to The Filmmakers Factory for inspiration to create a new online advertising campaign that would draw in the younger audience, much like the BMW ads did in 2001. From the rubble came Venger, a faster than life three-part web thriller about a man's quest for revenge. The first 15-minute-long film in the series is a slick action-packed revenge tale starring an ensemble of Australian talent including Christian Clark (Gabriel), Henry Nixon (The Pacific) and Dan Mor (Underbelly: The Golden Mile).

Triangle Written and Directed by: Christopher Smith Starring: Melissa George, Liam Hemsworth, Michael Dorman, Henry Nixon, Rachael Carpani, Emma Lung, Joshua McIvor Sitting down to watch a horror/thriller called Triangle that takes place on a boat out in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, you'd be forgiven for expecting a fairly straightforward and unoriginal story. But take all those preconceptions and throw them out the window, because this isn't just another cheesy take on the legend of the Bermuda Triangle (at least not explicitly). Written and directed by Christopher Smith, the British director behind the gory horror-comedy Severance, this is a strange and wonderful mindbender of a film -- one that navigates uncharted waters and pulls you down into a dizzying whirlpool of weirdness. If you're a fan of far out Twilight Zone-esque concepts, then you'll agree that this is definitely a good thing. Melissa George plays Jess,...

At the end of a long pier just off the beach at Surfer’s Paradise in the Australian state of Queensland, the three-story front end of an ocean liner sits on a huge pile of rocks. It’s not wrecked—although many of the people who walk its decks will be. Instead, it’s the ingenious solution to the problem of making a film that’s mainly set on such a vessel—one that you can’t really hire, or buy off eBay. It also helps when you need your movie to showcase real waves, and not the computer-generated variety.
The film is Triangle, and the writer/director is Englishman Chris Smith, the feverish brain behind Creep and the more recent, savagely hilarious Severance (which every workplace on the planet should sit down and watch for their own bonding benefits). The all-Australian cast includes Melissa George, who previously lensed 30 Days Of Night in New Zealand,...

Melissa George has to break the cycle of terror in the promo trailer of "Triangle". Nearly four minutes long, the video footage promoting the psychological thriller set inside the Bermuda Triangle, provides a first look into the horror a woman named Jess has to face when she is stuck in a loop where everything that happens to her happens all over again.
Coming from the director of "Creep" and "Severance", Christopher Smith, "Triangle" revolves around Jess and her friends who set sail on a yacht. When a storm suddenly struck their yacht, they are forced to board a passing ocean liner which seems to be deserted to get to safety. Soon after coming aboard the ship, Jess is convinced she's been there before but what she doesn't know is the horror she will face afterward.
