Following her scene-stealing role in the X-Men '97 finale, there's been a hurricane of Storm announcements this week. Not only is the stalwart X-Man leader joining the cast of writer Jed MacKay and new series artist Valerio Schiti's Avengers this August, but she'll also headline her own solo ongoing series in October.
She's Earth's Mightiest Mutant, and both titles will showcase her soaring to Omega-level heights. Today, you can check out some all-new variant covers for the issue where she's recruited by her fellow heroes: Avengers #17.
Among the new covers is one that pays homage to Avengers #144 by Luciano Vecchio and a gorgeous pinup piece by Pablo Villalobos, both of which spotlight her new costume. In addition, artist Sam de la Rosa depicts Storm's ex-husband, Black Panther, whom she'll now stand alongside once more as teammates.

Marvel Comics has announced that Storm is set to become Earth's Mightiest Mutant in the pages of Avengers #17 this August. Ororo Munroe will join the team in Jed MacKay's current run of the series, with artist Valerio Schiti, fresh off his bold work on G.O.D.S., also joining the title.
Krakoa's tragic fall has made the Avengers realize how vital a mutant voice on the team is, and they'll settle for nothing less than the most prominent and beloved mutant superhero on the planet. A pop culture icon, Storm has assembled with the Avengers before - in both comics as well as other forms of media - but never like this.
Not only will the Avengers need her Omega-level power for the battles ahead, but they'll rely on her unique expertise and leadership skills as MacKay's overarching plots involving Kang, the Twilight Court, and more kick into high gear.

Disney owns the Marvel Comics company, and when Disney acquired the 20th Century Fox film studio a couple years ago, it gave Marvel the chance to publish comic books inspired by 20th Century properties like Alien, Predator, and Planet of the Apes. Marvel has already gotten Alien and Predator comic books out on the shelves, and we reported last year that a Planet of the Apes comic book was in the works for a 2023 release. Now The Hollywood Reporter has learned that when that book is released in April, it’s going to be used to launch a new Marvel imprint: the 20th Century Studios line. The Alien and Predator comic books, and any other 20th Century property that ends up getting the comic treatment from Marvel, will also be part of this imprint.

X Lives of Wolverine #5 Writer: Benjamin Percy | Artist: Joshua Cassara | Colourist: Frank Martin | Letters: Cory Petit
The curtain comes down on X Lives with a very well crafted issue, that strikes a good balance between story and action. The narration excellently explains everything that has been going on how it has all come to a head, clearing up some questions from the previous issues along the way. What makes this such a good issue and what makes it stand out for me is that not only does it wrap up the series so well, the story told within this issue kind of encapsulates the whole Wolverine mythos. While answers were provided I don’t think the ending was as satisfactory as it could have been, considering the hype the series had. It has felt throughout this series that with every positive there is a negative to keep all things balanced.

X Lives of Wolverine #1 Writer: Benjamin Percy | Artist: Joshua Cassara | Colourist: Frank Martin | Letters: Cory Petit
I have been really looking forward to this series since it was first announced. Right away the cover by Adam Kubert hits all the nostalgia notes for long-time Wolverine fans. Since it was announced I have been thinking up what specifically the lives/deaths aspect could refer to. Is the X 10 like in Powers of X? When I paid for my comics online I have to admit I was a little shocked by the higher price compared to my regular issues, but this first issue certainly justified it in my opinion. My biggest concern going in was how much of this plays off of recent events in X-Men comics as opposed to it being a Wolverine solo story. Percy wastes no time at all and just throws the reader in at the deep end with the action.

If you want to know what the future of the MCU looks like, just look at what Marvel Comics is publishing right now. As a general rule, whatever is being prioritized in Marvel’s publishing wing is usually a good indicator of which way the wind is blowing for their Marvel Studios counterparts over the next few years. Sometimes this takes the form of which storylines are suddenly being reprinted in prestigious collected editions, while others it’s about the launch of new series which position old characters, titles, and trademarks in prominent ways. Whether it’s Sam Wilson becoming Captain America or Jane Foster becoming Thor, the Marvel Comics events of today are often the MCU milestones of tomorrow.
And Marvel isn’t messing around with big event stories right now, announcing a whopping eight titles that all should feel very familiar to fans who enjoy speculation about the next evolution of the MCU.
