Even the most ardent champions of filmmaker Alex Garland couldn't have predicted the directions that this year's "Men" would travel. The basic elevator pitch sounds simple and straightforward enough: the recently widowed Harper (Jessie Buckley) travels to the UK countryside in an effort to escape the trauma and loss of her husband's (Paapa Essiedu) death, which may or may not have been the result of suicide. Their final harrowing argument, full of vicious verbal insults and physical assault, ensures that Harper will remain haunted by their final moments together leading to the fateful moment. Indeed, once tucked away in the secluded village, all the men (all...

In early May, ahead of the film’s splashy premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis received an endorsement of the highest order when Priscilla Presley took to social media to share her reaction upon seeing it.
“Beautifully done,” posted Priscilla, praising Luhrmann, Austin Butler who toplines as the King, Tom Hanks as his manager and Olivia DeJonge who stars as Priscilla. “It took me a few days to overcome the emotions as it did with Lisa [Marie Presley].”
Since the post, the Presley family has come out in full force to support the release of the Warner Bros. film by attending the Cannes screening, turning up at the Graceland premiere, appearing on Good Morning America and even outside the Tcl Chinese Theatre to stamp their handprints in cement. Priscilla, who was married to Elvis Presley from 1967-1972, has been joined by their daughter,...

“Ted Lasso’s” Hannah Waddingham and Juno Temple could join an elite club if they both manage to repeat getting nominated for Best Comedy Supporting Actress this year. The Apple TV Plus featured players would become the 13th duo to score multiple Emmy nominations in that category at the same time. Waddingham, the category’s reigning Emmy champ, plays AFC Richmond owner Rebecca Welton, while Temple, who earned a bid last year, takes on the role of marketing manager Keeley Jones.
The first show to give us this kind of combination was “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” and it gave us two different pairs. From 1971 to 1974, both Valerie Harper and Cloris Leachman were nominated. Harper claimed the award the first three times while Leachman got hers in 1974. Later in the show’s run, Betty White and Georgia Engel both scored back-to-back noms in 1976 and 1977. White won in 1976 but both would...

When we finally see Kirby’s (Elisabeth Moss) brutal attack at the hands of Harper (Jamie Bell) in the next-to-last episode of “Shining Girls,” it’s shocking, but also, far less graphic than we might have expected.
Moss, who has directed five episodes of “The Handmaid’s Tale,” went behind the camera to helm the fifth and seventh installments of the AppleTV+ series. (Michelle McLaren directed the first two episodes and Daina Reid helmed the rest.)
The actress, who also executive produced the sci-fi series, tells TheWrap she deliberately chose to show the attack from Kirby’s point of view, which means we never see Harper or the knife. One moment Kirby, then still known as Sharon, is happily walking her dog on the beach at night, still beaming from the news that she’s getting her first solo byline. Then, out of nowhere, she’s on her face in the sand.

Jeff Bridges plays an aging ex-CIA asset in the new FX thriller The Old Man… but Thursday’s premiere proved we shouldn’t count the old guy out just yet.
When we meet Bridges’ character Dan Chase, he’s living a quiet, idyllic life with his two dogs — though he does have to get up in the night to pee several times. (Plus, he’s having unsettling dreams about a woman crouched in his bathroom.) In a phone call, his daughter Emily remembers how “indestructible” she once thought he was, but now she’s worried about him. He’s a little worried,...

Already an accomplished actor, singer, writer and host, Neil Patrick Harris will soon take on his toughest role yet: becoming a dad to teenagers. "You spend a lot of time with kids as parents, trying to instill values and humor and agency with them," he exclusively told E! News' Daily Pop on June 16. "Now that they're older and they don't like you anymore, you can sort of see how that plays out." Neil welcomed twins Harper and Gideon Burtka-Harris with husband David Burtka in 2010. Now, the siblings are inching closer and closer to teenagerhood. "They will be 12 years old in October, which will be their golden birthday," Neil said before jokingly adding, "which...

On June 14, “America’s Got Talent” returned with more spectacular auditions on Episode 3 of Season 17. Host Terry Crews welcomed series judges Simon Cowell, Sofia Vergara, Heidi Klum and Howie Mandel back to the dais with performances from the third set of entertainers. But who were the best performers from the episode? And did any move forward that shouldn’t have? Below we rank the 10 acts who advanced from worst to best.

Season 17 Episode 3 rankings:
10. Harper: I expected a nice ballad or pop song from Harper and we got a hard rock singer. Only on “AGT” do we get this type of child singer. I guess they couldn’t buzz her with her Dad sitting there? I did not understand how she made it through to the next round, but apparently a good portion of social media was really digging this act.

Ben Harper bluntly addresses the deep-seated and longstanding wounds of slavery on his new song, “We Need to Talk About It.” The track will appear on Harper’s next album, Bloodline Maintenance, set to arrive July 22 via Chrysalis Records.
“We Need to Talk About It” boasts a potent blend of gospel, funk, and blues, with Harper singing back-and-forth with a choir over a steady groove of rumbling percussion and wobbling guitar licks. Towards the end of the song, Harper’s clear-eyed lyrics — “How does a ghost forgive… How are we...

Night 3 of auditions on “America’s Got Talent” season 17 continued on June 14 with another slate of audition performances from acts vying for this year’s 1 million prize. Host Terry Crews was back in the theater with series judges Simon Cowell, Sofia Vergara, Heidi Klum and Howie Mandel for a third week of round 1 auditions. One of the fresh acts to perform for the judges was 10 year old singer Harper who shocked the panel with an unexpected twist to her voice. Watch the full audition in the video above.
With so many singers auditioning for the AGT judges, it is imperative that new hopefuls bring something unique that the judges haven’t seen before. For young Harper, the uniqueness arrived with the crushing sound of her death metal vocal talent. Delivering the “unexpected” in spades, Harper threw the judges off because her gentle demeanor in her introduction was a jarring comparison to...

William Jackson Harper isn’t necessarily a huge romantic comedy fan, despite leading the second season of “Love Life.” The actor plays Marcus in the HBO Max anthology series, a book editor who is struggling to figure out what he wants in life, particularly when it comes to women. Over the course of the season, Marcus ultimately grows as a person and finds true love by the end of the season, but not without showing the struggle of getting to that place. “I think that’s what sort of sets ‘Love Life’ apart, is that it’s really a character study, just set in this genre,” says Harper in an exclusive new interview for Gold Derby. Watch the full video chat above.
As we see in the first episode of the season, Marcus is addicted to his work, even answering emails while at a wedding. His marriage falls apart and...

The finale of Apple TV+’s “Shining Girls” was a fitting ending for a tense, traumatic season as we watched Kirby (Elisabeth Moss) turn the tables on Harper (Jamie Bell), the time traveler who had so brutally assaulted her years before.
But is it really an ending? Despite the limited series finishing in roughly the same place where the novel by Lauren Beukes did, Moss isn’t convinced this is where the the story should stop.
“Personally speaking, just honestly, I feel like there’s more story to tell,” she tells TheWrap of the series, which was created and run by Silka Luisa. “I think that sometimes with the first season, you’ve just given everybody a lay of the land. And then in the second season, you get to actually get down to business and have some fun. So I would be interested in ‘where do we go now...

The title of FX’s The Old Man doesn’t really tell you what kind of show it is. It could be a wacky multicamera sitcom about an ill-behaving senior citizen who gets kicked out of his retirement home and has to move in with his hipster grandson. It could be a whimsical dramedy about a retiree figuring out how to fill his days. Or it could be what it actually is: a thriller starring Jeff Bridges as a renegade former CIA operative who has to kill a lot of...
