The "Halloween" franchise is cyclical. Ever since John Carpenter's original made a splash in 1978, producers and franchise custodians have been hoping to catch lightning in a bottle again by returning to the same fundamental premise: psychopath Michael Myers cuts a brutal swath through a town of innocents on Halloween night. It's been attempted before without original final girl Jamie Lee Curtis as the eternally-stalked Laurie Strode, but this time she's along for the ride in David Gordon Green's revival "H40" trilogy, which gets rid of all pesky sequels in between '78 and now.
Myers' return to Haddonfield and subsequent killing spree was spread over Green's "Halloween" and "Halloween Kills," and "Ends" picks up a year after those events. Laurie's daughter is dead along with a handful of Haddonfieldians, and a severely injured Michael has once again eluded death. The Boogeyman resurfaces in the present day upon meeting a...

In the episode of The Arrow in the Head Show that was released last Monday, Lance Vlcek and Tyler Nichols got together for a spoiler-filled conversation about the new Hellraiser movie (read our review Here). Just one week later, Lance and Tyler already have another major horror release to talk about: Halloween Ends! (Read our review of that one Here.) To hear their Spoiler-filled Halloween Ends discussion, check out the video embedded above.
Halloween 2018 and Halloween Kills director David Gordon Green directed Halloween Ends from a screenplay he wrote with Danny McBride, Paul Brad Logan, and Chris Bernier. They crafted the following story:
Four years after the events of last year’s Halloween Kills, Laurie is living with her granddaughter Allyson (Andi Matichak) and is finishing writing her memoir. Michael Myers hasn’t been seen since. Laurie, after allowing the specter of Michael to determine and drive her reality for decades,...

Halloween Ends arrives like the undercooked dessert of a three-course meal nobody much enjoyed—but what garnish these John Carpenter scores were! Unlikely as it is he’ll ever make another movie (whatever my Twitter feed’s bi-weekly incantations) the musical contributions proved a satisfying, proper means for this American master to exercise some creative muscle in his 70s, an age he has looked since the first Halloween opened 44 years ago.
Composed and performed with his son Cody Carpenter and godson Daniel Davies, the LP-length, 21-track effort traces familiar paths so it can (seemingly) conclude them; a title like “Laurie’s Theme Ends” can hold just the slightest weight for those who play the 1978 original on loop this time of year. Does any of that carry through the movie? Let’s be honest: I’ll probably never find out. As in Carpenter’s Lost Themes trilogy, it might be best...

This review contains spoilers for “Halloween Ends.”
For a movie hyping itself as the final glimpse of Michael Myers, Halloween Ends has surprisingly little of the man in the William Shatner mask.
Those expecting one last showdown between the Boogeyman and ultimate Final Girl Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) may walk away disappointed, as Halloween Ends takes some narrative risks that might anger fans. But those willing to go with it and forgive an overstuffed plot might walk away slightly more satisfied. Like all of David Gordon Green’s entries in this series, Halloween Ends is a mess, but for the first time in the trilogy, it puts its pretensions on the back burner and lets itself have a bit of fun.
Green’s first two films took place over one hellish Halloween night, letting Michael (played here by James Jude Courtney and original Shape Nick Castle) wreak havoc in...

Plot: Four years after the tragedy that took place in Halloween Kills, Laurie Strode is finally ready to move on. Yet Michael Myers legacy isn’t ready to let her go just yet.
Review: In 1978, moviegoers discovered one of the most iconic figures in horror, his name was Michael Myers. Halloween, the John Carpenter-directed classic, became synonymous with the holiday. It launched the career of the film’s star, Jamie Lee Curtis. Now, we are finally coming to the end. David Gordon Green has offered up his take on Haddonfield with Halloween (2018), the divisive Halloween Kills, and finally, Halloween Ends. It certainly appears to be the final film in the franchise. Yet any self-respecting horror fan knows that means evil never truly dies for the inevitable reboot/remake. However, it is likely the final film for Ms. Curtis. And she gives us one last showdown with the man behind the mask.

Halloween Ends isn’t really going to be the end of the Halloween franchise. As long as there is still money to be made off of Michael Myers, we’re still going to be getting new Halloween movies. But this movie probably is going to be the last time Jamie Lee Curtis ever plays franchise heroine Laurie Strode – and in a new promo video, Curtis gets choked up while talking about her last day on the Halloween Ends set. The day she said goodbye to a character she has been playing, off and on, for forty-four years. You can watch the promo video right here:
#HalloweenEnds is almost here, and @jamieleecurtis was kind enough to share her experience of the last day on set, and just how much Laurie Strode means to her.

Jamie Lee Curtis has one more round of full-force fighting in her to bring Laurie Strode to life in Halloween Ends, the final installment of the decades-old franchise. Ahead of the film’s release on Oct. 14 via Universal Pictures, one last trailer has been shared to preview the incoming cataclysmic conclusion as Curtis prepares to retire the iconic final girl for good.
Michael Meyers disappeared four years prior to the events of the film, which rounds out the revival trilogy led by 2018’s Halloween and 2021’s Halloween Kills, all directed by David Gordon Green.

She’s back again in the new sequel, Halloween Ends, which is said to give her even more screen time as Lindsey than she had in Halloween Kills. With the October 14th release of Halloween Ends quickly approaching, Richards’ co-star Jamie Lee Curtis has shared a new image of Lindsey Wallace in the film, revealing that we’ll be seeing a scene in which Lindsey is giving someone a tarot card reading. It may not even be Labor Day yet, but Spooky Season has already started for many. While those obsessed with horror movies already have their fall movie marathons well under way, surely many will be making time for one more. Next month, Halloween Ends comes out…but John Carpenter wonders if it will be the actual “end.”
In a recent interview with The New Yorker, Halloween co-creator John Carpenter discussed his thoughts on the new trilogy, as well as the prospects of its future. “If a movie makes enough money, you can be assured that it will [get a sequel].”
This is more of a hunch from John Carpenter, who actually has only ever directed one sequel, Escape from L.A. (He did uncredited reshoots on 1981’s Halloween II.) While money does indeed talk in Hollywood, it does seem unlikely that this particular trilogy would be extended. After all, it’s called Halloween Ends,...

When he's not chilling at home playing video games and watching NBA basketball, cherished cult director John Carpenter has kept busy of late composing horror film scores with his son Cody Carpenter. The duo teamed up with Daniel A. Nearly 40 years after the release of Mark L. Lester’s Firestarter adaptation, we have a new take on Stephen King’s classic story, this time with Keith Thomas (The Vigil) at the helm. And while this new iteration effectively modernizes some of the concepts and themes at the heart of King’s story and features several killer set pieces that showcase Thomas’ capabilities as a director to boot, where Firestarter (2022) falls short is in its screenplay by Scott Teems that never quite nails the heart of the characters that originally made King’s story so compelling in the first place. Ryan Kiera Armstrong definitely makes for a compelling Charlie McGee this time around—I just wish we were given more reason to root for her character than what we see in this version of Firestarter, resulting in an adaptation that is solid overall, but does feel like it falls short in some ways as well.

Horror sequels generally are not great, and that’s being charitable. Usually, they outright suck. So, it’s an absolute delight to see that David Gordon Green has defied the odds. Along with Danny McBride, Green has managed to honor the Halloween franchise, while also giving it a new spin. When Halloween hits theaters this week, it won’t just be another big hit for Jason Blum and Blumhouse, it’ll mark a rare cinematic achievement. Halloween, due in large part to Green and McBride, is one of the best horror sequels of all time. The competition may not be fierce, but it’s still high praise. This new version stands tall alongside the original, and that’s really saying something. Set four decades after the events of the original Halloween, this follow up erases all of the sequels that came before it, which is an excellent call. Here, Michael Myers is locked up,...
