New York's theater community continue to expand its beachhead in Los Angeles. One of three new plays by female playwrights commissioned by Rising Phoenix Rep and Weathervane Productions began performances in North Hollywood this week. “We really wanted to do a development process that was artist-based and not individual-project based. We committed fully to an artist and to their vision," said Daniel Talbott, artistic director for Rising Phoenix Repertory and literary manager of Rattlestick Playwrights Theater. "We’re seeing each of these plays through from birth all the way up to production,” he added. “It’s a rare thing." "Thieves,” produced by Rpr, Weathervane and Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, tells the story of three wayward children reunited with their estranged father at an East Texas estate after the family matriarch dies.
