EastEnders star Gary Lucy has spoken out about the criticism the soap received about his character's on-screen kiss.
Lucy's character Danny Pennant shared a kiss with newcomer Johnny Carter (Sam Strike) over the festive season as part of a plot that saw the teenager eventually discuss his sexuality with his father Mick.
The episode received complaints from viewers but was defended by EastEnders writers Pete Lawson and Daran Little.
Speaking to The Sun about the complaints, Lucy said: "I think, 'Get with the times!'
"Reaction was, on the most part, positive. There were a few on Twitter still living in the dark ages but on the whole, people were okay.
"I got one message on the internet from a guy saying, 'Thanks for that storyline because it gave me the courage to come out and tell my parents'. If you can do that, you as an actor and the show has done its job.

Exclusive: The Weinstein Company has closed a deal for the Paul Rudd comedy My Idiot Brother that will amount to a minimum guarantee of $6 million-$7 million, and a $15 million P&A commitment for a wide theatrical release. That makes My Idiot Brother the biggest deal of the Sundance Festival so far, but there's an intriguing component here. Ron Burkle, who backed Harvey and Bob Weinstein's attempt to acquire Miramax Films and its library, will be a partner on the acquisition, the first of what is rumored to be the beginning of an ongoing relationship. The deal comes after a marathon auction that began last night with TWC, Relativity Media and Fox Searchlight. The action on began right after the premiere screening finished. The two parties chasing it hardest were Relativity Media and The Weinstein Company. The discussions were still taking shape around 2 Am, and the feeling was the film...

Exclusive: The Weinstein Company has acquired domestic distribution rights to Cogan’s Trade, the Andrew Dominik-directed adaptation of the George V. Higgins novel. Brad Pitt plays the title character, Jackie Cogan, a professional enforcer who investigates a heist that takes place during a high stakes poker game held under the protection of the mob. I’m told that Harvey Weinstein bested multiple suitors by pledging a $20 million P&A guarantee. The film starts production February 28, and TWC plans a wide release in the first quarter of 2012. Pitt will star with Casey Affleck and Sam Rockwell, reuniting the team from Dominik’s The Assassination of Jesse James By the Coward Robert Ford. I’ve heard James Gandolfini could join the cast, but that isn’t certain. Dominik wrote the script. The deal was made by CAA and TWC’s acquisition head Pete Lawson and COO David Glasser. Inferno financed Cogan’s Trade,...
