When I first saw the title Viking Wolf, Vikingulven in its native Norwegian, I had visions of Norse lycanthropes raiding and pillaging their way up and down the coast. Sadly that isn’t what it’s about although it does begin with a prologue, shot like a silent film for some reason, showing a raiding party under the command of Grim Gudbrand storming an abbey.
The monks warn them against going into a locked room and assuming it to be filled with treasure, smash down the door and find a snarling red-eyed wolf cub. Of course, they take it with them, and by the time their longship returns home, it’s the only thing left alive on it.

"Believe me... you're dealing with a bloodthirsty beas, which must be stopped before the infection spreads." Available to watch on Netflix in Europe now is a Norwegian werewolf horror thriller titled Viking Wolf, also known as Vikingulven. We're just catching up with this trailer - the film is already streaming as of this past weekend. Elli Rhiannon Müller Osbourne stars as 17-year-old Thale, who moves with her parents to a small town when her mother gets a job with the local police. After a student is brutally murdered at a party Thale attends, she suddenly becomes a key witness. Who, or rather what exactly, was the killer? The town must stop the bloodthirsty beast before it kills everyone in its path. She also starts to have strange visions and bizarre desires... Also starring Liv Mjönes, Vidar Magnussen, Mia Fosshaug Laubacher, Sjur Vatne Brean, and Silje Øksland Krohne. This would probably...

Viking Wolf, billed as Norway’s first werewolf movie, delivers as promised. This recent Netflix acquisition doesn’t mislead its audience; there is definitely a wild lycan on the loose in a small Norwegian town. However, Stig Svendsen’s movie doesn’t have the typical origin found in these kinds of stories; the werewolf myth here has been adapted to better fit its Scandinavian environment. The end result is a unique, if not flawed new addition to the pack.
Despite its cheesy title, Viking Wolf (originally Vikingulven) is a serious movie. It takes the trademarks of modern Scandi-noir media and applies it to this creature-feature. In the story, a teenage city transplant named Thale Berg (Elli Rhiannon Müller Osbourne) moves to a place called Nybø after her father passed away. His death has affected the main character’s relationship with her mother (Liv Mjönes), and that tension plays a significant role in Thale’s fate.

Wiking Wolf (Vikingulven) is a horror movie directed by Stig Svendsen starring Liv Mjönes, Marius Lien and Arthur Hakalahti. The script is written by Stig Svendsen, Espen Aukan and Jannicke Systad Jacobsen.
As is the case with Trol, this movie is another take on the werewolf theme returning it to its Viking origins and, as in Godzilla we go back to the source of the myth to return to the origins.
It is impossible to not be reminded of American Werewolf, in London or Paris… but this time in a small Norwegian village.
And, sure, miss those other movies a little.
Storyline
A girl in a party with her friends witnesses a cruel murder by an unidentified creature. Nobody can imagine what it was.

Swedish thriller series “Hostage,” which is being distributed by Global Screen, centers on the hijacking of a passenger aircraft, and the arrest of a Syrian academic by Swedish intelligence agency Sapo. Variety spoke to the show’s director Karen Fahlén, and Jonas Karlsson, who stars alongside Liv Mjönes and Adam Lundgren.
The six-part series is a sequel to 10-part crime drama “Stockholm Requiem,” which was based on Kristina Ohlsson’s novels based around the detective Fredrika Bergman. Fahlén directed “Stockholm Requiem,” which also starred Karlsson and Mjönes. Karlsson reprises the character he played in “Stockholm Requiem,” police chief Alex Recht, and Mjönes (“Midsommar”) reprises her character from the earlier show, Fredrika Bergman.
In the new show, we find that Recht has left the police force, and is driving a cab. He is shambolic, and his spirit appears to have been broken. “He’s in no-man’s land,” Karlsson says. “Life sucks.

Walter Presents has acquired Swedish thriller “Stockholm Requiem” for the U.K. and Australia from Zdf Enterprises. It marks the fourth Swedish drama series the global on-demand service, which specialises in non-English language drama, has picked up from Zdf following “Blue Eyes,” “Thicker Than Water” and “Before We Die.”
Walter Iuzzolino, co-founder and curator of the service, said “Stockholm Requiem” was “Everything you want in a Scandi Noir and more. Quintessential viewing for anyone who likes beautifully shot drama and a plot line that will keep you guessing.”
“Stockholm Requiem” stars Liv Mjönes as an unconventional criminologist and new civilian recruit to the police force, as she joins a less than welcoming special investigations unit and is thrown in at the deep end of a difficult case. Jonas Karlsson and Alexej Manvelov co-star.
The 10-part drama is based on the best-selling trilogy of novels by Kristina Ohlsson and adapted by Jörgen Hjerdt and Pauline Wolff.

Last year, Hereditary announced the arrival of a unique filmmaker in Ari Aster. Regardless of whether you loved or hated the movie, it was a distinctive vision, one that was impossible to ignore. Now, this week brings Aster’s sophomore outing in Midsummer, and he’s upped his game, both in terms of ambition and scale, as well as, in my humble opinion, execution as well. Though I was somewhat underwhelmed by Hereditary, Midsommar is one of the best films of 2019 so far. Bold and uncompromising, Aster has a voice that’s essential within the genre. This is an absolute must see to start July off with. You’ve never seen anything quite like it. Things start off somewhat slowly, by design. Dani (Florence Pugh) is a grad student worried not just about her relationship with fellow student Christian (Jack Reynor), but also an ominous message from her sister. When...

"It's like they're trying to make it gross..." A24 has debuted a short, new "Summer Solstice" trailer for Ari Aster's cult horror film Midsommar, which opens in a few weeks. The trailer celebrates the actual, literal "midsummer", the longest day of the year (in the northern hemisphere). Midsommar is about a woman who reluctantly joins her boyfriend on a holiday trip to a small Swedish village, where the encounter a pagan cult conducting a "violent and bizarre" ritual. Florence Pugh and Jack Reynor star as the couple, along with Will Poulter, Julia Ragnarsson, William Jackson Harper, Björn Andrésen, Anna Åström, and Liv Mjönes. Early word from preview screenings is that the films is truly messed up, with viewers saying it's "Wild, unsettling, profound and & just about the craziest shit I’ve witnessed on the big screen". Oh yes. Here's the new "Summer Solstice" trailer for Ari Aster's Midsommar, direct...

"I don't want to acclimate – I want to go." A24 has revealed the second official trailer for Ari Aster's cult horror film Midsommar, the follow-up to his highly acclaimed feature debut Hereditary. Midsommar is about a woman who reluctantly joins her boyfriend on a trip to a small Swedish village, where the encounter a pagan cult conducting a "violent and bizarre" ritual. This looks very, very freakalicious. Florence Pugh and Jack Reynor star as the couple, along with Will Poulter, Julia Ragnarsson, William Jackson Harper, Björn Andrésen, Anna Åström, and Liv Mjönes. A24 teamed up with Aster to develop and produce this after releasing Hereditary, and will drop it in theaters in July in the middle of the summer. Mia (Ruth Vega Fernandez) is on the traditional track: successful architecture career, a wonderful apartment in the city, and she’s engaged to her boyfriend of many years, Tim (Joakim Nätterqvist). Mia and Tim travel to celebrate the 60th birthday and engagement of Mia’s father, Lasse (Krister Henriksson) to Elisabeth (Lena Endre). Mia’s younger brother, Oskar (Tom Ljungman), introduces her to Elisabeth’s daughter, Frida (Liv Mjönes). The idea is for everyone to get along like one big happy family. As with so many Scandinavian films I’ve seen recently there is so much beauty in Kiss Me – from the actors themselves to the lighting as well as the Swedish countryside. Writer and director Alexandra-Therese Keining captures one of the most intimate love stories I’ve seen in years. There is nothing trite or syrupy about Mia and Frida as we witness the evolution of their relationship. Keining...

Kiss Me
Written and directed by Alexandra-Therese Keining
Sweden, 2011
Like in Mulholland Drive, the first intimate encounter between the two female leads is delicately depicted. Perfuse with undeniable eroticism and composed with such seductive elegance, this moment is mediated on absolute and instinctive passion. Framed amongst the forbidden circumstances of their carnal convergence, the kiss, when juxtaposed, enkindles an emotional dialectic of forlorn beauty.
With gorgeously regal cinematography and unequivocally captivating performances, this beauty is deeply embedded into Alexandra-Therese Keining’s Kiss Me, a classic tale of love destined to become a classic of its own.
The film centers on Mia (Ruth Vega Fernandez), a tightly wound, anal-retentive woman. With her business partner and fiancé Tim (Joakim Nätterqvist), she visits her father (Krister Henriksson) at his engagement ceremony, where she meets Frida (Liv Mjönes), the free-spirited daughter of his wife-to-be (Lena Endre from the Swedish Millennium Series Trilogy). Initially perplexed by Frida’s unabashed transparency,...
