"If he's trying to murder me, I'll kill him first." Another official trailer is available to watch for this kooky and crazy Japanese horror film called Lumberjack the Monster, based on the novel of the same name. A suspenseful thriller directed by Takashi Miike and starring Kazuya Kamenashi. The brutal film is about a series of bizarre murders by someone wearing a strange monster mask found in the picture book 'Monster Woodcutter' who then steals their brains. Akira heads out to get revenge on this Lumberjack killer. The plot follows this Patrick Bateman-like psychopath lawyer (who also kills) going up against this vicious masked murderer - pitting a psychopath against a serial killer in a totally bonkers new Takashi Miike creation. Only someone like Miike could make something so absurd! Lumberjack the Monster stars Kazuya Kamenashi as Akira Ninomiya, Nanao, Riho Yoshioka, Shota Sometani, and Shido Nakamura. The film already opened in Japan last December,...

‘X-Men ’97’ has been a major success for the studio, the show debuted with 100 % on Rotten Tomatoes and has kept consistently high ratings, being praised by fans after every single episode, especially episode 5.
We know that the studio has pretty big plans for the show, with season 2 already in production and season 3 being in development. The sky is the limit. Recently, fans have called for the showrunners to take over the development of the upcoming ‘X-Men’ live-action reboot, as the current quality of the show far surpasses anything we’ve seen in the MCU in the last few years, with few notable exceptions.
In their recent interview with Inverse, show’s directors Chase Conley, Emi Yonemura, and Jake Castorena discussed the show’s possible future, and they are open to pretty much anything, especially animated movie based on the show.

The zombie genre is one that appears to have nothing new at this point. We seem to have seen every possible variation through various movies, books, and games. Which is why the manga “Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead” written by Haro Aso and illustrated by Kotaro Takata quickly became known as a fun and fresh take on the old zombie apocalypse setup when first printed in 2018 in the magazine “Monthly Sunday Gene-x”. Last year saw two adaptations; the Netflix movie directed by Yusuke Ishida and the 12-episode anime series directed by Kazuki Kawagoe and produced by studio Bug Films. Whilst the film was an enjoyable romp, it never felt like it was able to make the most of the manga's premise. The anime, however, was one of the most enjoyable shows of 2023 and had something truly special about it. And I'm not talking about the zombie shark.

Facing mortal danger and concerns for his family as Jake Edelstein makes a final stand against the Yakuza boss Shinzo Tozawa, his actions raise questions like this. After thorough investigation for a prolonged period of time, Jake and the rest of his journalist team at Meicho Shimbun learned about Tozawa’s dealings with the FBI, which allowed for his violent takeover of Tokyo’s underworld since his return from the United States, and also for his liver transplant as well. The family/social drama has always been a staple within the Japanese film industry with directors such as Yasujiro Ozu or Kenji Mozoguchi having shaped it during the course of their career. At the same time, while delving into family issues, these directors have taken a lesson from early works within the cinematic landscape of their culture as well as Italien Neo-realism, adding “a slice of life” to their works. In the last couple of years perhaps no other director has influenced (and to certain extent perfected) this formula than Hirokazu Koreeda. His debut feature “Maborosi” already showed the family as a mirror image of a society caught in between tradition and progress, family values and individualism. With his fourth feature “Nobody Knows”, inspired by a true case, Koreeda would not only reach international fame, but also manifest his take on the aforementioned formula which many have copied (or tried to) over the years.

Teruaki Shoji's debut feature is a likeable enough idea of slow-paced, small-town life on a remote island to the north of Japan. But much like its lead characters, in many ways it suffers from its own naivety and could have done with some pointers from a guiding hand.

Into their life steps Miharu (Kumi Kureshiro), a shamed mangaka who inexplicably arrives on the island with literal bags of money and a deadline to meet. On April 26 of this year, Sand Land is going to make its way to multiple platforms. Even though it’s published by Bandai Namco, it seems like players are more eager to play Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero. Naturally, the announcement regarding the upcoming game has brought the community onto a new hype train, and any other title now holds much less attention.
Even though Sand Land is based on the contemporary artist/writer Akira Toriyama’s work, the community seems to be more eager for Sparking Zero to arrive as soon as possible. Seems like fans would rather have the next game in the fighting saga than entertain a different game altogether.

Millie Bobby Brown fights a fire-breathing dragon in the latest trailer for Netflix’s Damsel, out this March. Have a look here:
Millie Bobby Brown became a star thanks to her Akira-powered turn in Stranger Things, and she’s since become a go-to talent for Netflix, having since made a mini-franchise out of Elona Holmes.
Directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later), Damsel is the latest Netflix vehicle for Brown, and comes with a nifty, table-turning premise: she plays the titular Damsel, and is forced to contend with a fire-breathing dragon when she’s offered up as a sacrifice.
Or, as Brown herself puts it in a press release issued by Netflix, “She’s a damsel who doesn’t need to be saved. She saves herself in many ways. It subverts what you expect: You’re expecting the prince to turn around and save her, and… no. Don’t wait for the prince.

Anime and manga live-action adaptations, especially English-language ones, have a mixed track record. For every "One Piece" and "Speed Racer," which manage to capture the endless imagination of the medium, there are thrice as many "Dragonball Evolution" and "Ghost in the Shell" bad movies that nearly ruin their source material.
One of the best ones is not really based on an anime or manga — though it is quite clear that "Akira" was a huge influence — Josh Trank and Max Landis' "Chronicle." The film is set in Seattle and follows three teens who acquire telekinetic powers. Soon enough, the fun and games turn dark and deadly when one of them begins to lose control and relish in their power. Warning: contains plot spoilers for The Boy and the Heron.
The English-language title of Hayao Miyazaki’s latest feature at Studio Ghibli is misleadingly simple. The Boy and the Heron suggests an Aesop-like fable in the vein of The Ant and the Grasshopper or The Hare and the Fox. The film itself has nothing like the clarity of a fable. It’s crowded, at times to the point of narrative incoherence, with enchanting but mystifying episodes that elude a single reading.
It’s the story of Mahito, a boy in 1940s Tokyo who loses his mother in a wartime fire. A year later, his father remarries her sister and starts a new family, moving them out to the aunt’s childhood countryside home. There, Mahito is plagued by a menacing heron who lures him to a mysterious tower built by his grand-uncle with the promise of seeing his mother alive.
